When we walked into our room it was very elegantly decorated. Our bathroom was recently remodeled with a shower and bathtub and gorgeous floors. The entire staff was absolutely amazing--very friendly and full of suggestions. Since this was in the middle of our trip we took advantage of their laundry services. We also chose to eat breakfast here and it did not disappoint. Guests have the option to choose buffet breakfast or hot breakfast. Both are great. The lady serving breakfast gave us the inside scoop on what places to stop in the Ring of Kerry. It really made our trip memorable and we got a lot of great photos. I was very satisfied with my stay here and highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

The lot was full during our stay and we were told to park in the lot across the street belonging to another hotel that was closed. Not sure where you park when that hotel opens for the season. When we arrived, there was some construction going on inside the hotel and an electrical extension cord was run under the front door making it difficult to open the door. As no one was sitting at the reception desk I knocked for a while before someone came from a back room and yelled that I should 'push hard' to enter, instead of walking over to open the door for us. I guess I have gotten accustomed to the wonderful welcomes I have received from all sorts of accommodations we have stayed at in Ireland and this lack luster reception was disheartening. After checking in the receptionist instructed us to walk down a hall and up a back staircase two floors. The hotel had an assortment of sitting areas throughout the hallways. The staircases have wooden railings and are carpeted. There are fire extinguishers in the common areas and post cards for guests to take on little tables throughout the property. Once we found our room we really got a 'wow' upon opening the door. The room was quite spacious with a small canopy above the bed giving it a very regal air. The bed linens are also quite nice having a textured pattern which lends to that feel of staying somewhere special. The windows overlooked a roof, dumpsters, and a side street. Well, the room is big. The desk in a corner included a coffee / tea tray and the hairdryer is on the wall. The tea tray included little chocolate snacks that I did not try but my SO fell in love and ordered them online when we got home. Two straight back chairs are provided, and for the size of the room a nice comfortable chair or two would have been appreciated as well. Sometime you just want to sit in a chair at the end of the day instead of the bed and there is plenty of room in here for a comfortable sofa at the foot of the bed facing the TV. The bathroom is updated and a good size, but there were no amenities. One bar of soap on the sink and liquid soup dispenser in the shower. No wash clothes, shampoo, shower cap, etc. A small shelf over the sink fit some toiletries while others sat on the windowsill. The armoire by the door is large and provides plenty of space to hang coats, shirts, etc, but there is no place to set your suitcase down. The room had a 'damp' feeling the entire time we stayed and our towels always felt wet, so we hung them over the radiator each night so they were warm and dry in the morning. Our room was off the main corridor at the end of the hotel making me wonder if that is why the room felt damp. It did rain most of the time during our visit. The staff were not Irish (the accent could have been eastern European) which makes me wonder if this is why we did not get that amazing Irish welcome we've come to expect. The room gives a nice impression. All the sitting areas throughout the hotel give the halls a bit of a cluttered feel but do offer a place to rest if you are not accustomed to walking all the stairs. It's a half hour walk to Muckross Castle, or walk into town and take a pony cart to the castle, about a 5 minute walk to the Killarney Brewing Co. which serves their beer and pizza as well as offer tours in summer, 12 minutes to town and 15 minutes to the Wild Atlantic Tour company pick up spot, making it an easy location for getting around on foot.

We…read morestayed 2 nights in room 212 (Arbus suite) which had a large bedroom, full spacious and updated bathroom and nice separate sitting area for relaxing. Our rate included breakfast. We also dined one evening in the exceptional hotel restaurant (Ivy Lounge) having made advance reservations. While without AC (like most Irish hotels) we were quite comfortable with a couple of window to open up. Even in June the temps outside seldom got past the mid 50s. As for the room itself, the king bed was firm and there were ample pillows. While the bedside tables were a bit undersized, there was power of both sides of the bed (bring your adapter as there were no ISB ports). The staff are great-friendly and helpful and the sleek styling of the place adds to the overall appeal. It's pretty quiet save the morning squeaking of crows without much ambient noise. On my wish list would be a slightly larger shower and double sink but in the overall scheme of things that's not a big negative. Would definitely recommend a stay here when visiting Killarney. Several of the nearby larger properties had multiple tour buses parked so if you'd like a more serene oasis in what can be a fairly busy tourist area, the Victoria just might be the answer.

The Ivy Restaurant served a wonderful dinner. The hotel is a pleasant 1 mile walk from the town center, which we walked several times. I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. If you are staying in Killarney area, this is close to Ross Castle, Muckross House, the Abbey, and is actually on the "Ring of Kerry" drive path. We were also treated to a complimentary sample of sweets in celebration of our honeymoon. The Malton does "historical hotel" right. It successfully achieves an elegant and vintage atmosphere without seeming "dated." The building itself makes a memorable impression covered in ivy surrounded by beautiful gardens. The Malton is an oasis in the heart of Killarney - within walking distance of all the shops and pubs. The room was gorgeous and the bathroom was supplied with modern amenities that still kept that classic touch. It's worth noting that the hotel does not have air conditioning, but we still found our room to be comfortable. Our only complaint about the room is that it is a little noisy (because of its location about the entrance, no doubt.) Breakfast included the typical array of pastries, meats, and cheeses, but also featured a made-to-order hot food menu with ample variety. The Belgian waffle was worth noting - it was coated in cinnamon and every bite was scrumptious. (It's a bit small though - order 2!) Unfortunately, the restaurant is not managed very well during breakfast. You must wait to be seated by a host, who may then take your order for coffee/tea and toast to pass along to your server - which really slows the seating process. The dining room is tightly packed, making it a little difficult for wheelchairs or strollers to maneuver. (Even on foot, winding your way to the buffet can be difficult.) Which it duly did. Steak sandwiches for two and salad for the sad vegetarian were deemed excellent. As it was Friday and we'd had a productive meeting I awarded myself a beer. At 2 in the afternoon. Such decadence. Thus replenished we boarded our train back to the shmoke. If the rest of the hotel is anything like the food in the restaurant I will definitely stay here should the opportunity present. Excellent.

They were kind enough to put our twin beds together so we could sleep together. Tub had jets and a soak felt lovely. Slept well but in all fairness we were very tired. Definitely spring for the breakfast. Great selection wish all our trip breakfasts were similar. Love they had a pool but didnt use it. Hotel is at Great location. The decor is soooo Irish-British ... think lots of florals, wallpaper, and patterned carpets. The building itself is super cool ... you'll never see anything like this in America. There is an elevator (or lift) but you still may have to walk up a few extra stairs. It's like a labyrinth with two rooms here, four there, steps up or down and hallways going here and there. Super cute. Our room was surprisingly large. Everything was clean. The bed was super comfortable. I slept great. In-room coffee, not good. Breakfast was included in our stay. There were plenty of options as well as a buffet table set up with cheeses, meats, pastries, fruit and the sort. However, my husband's omelette was not so great (greasy). My breakfasts were both fantastic. And the coffee in the restaurant was good, phew!

Their dinner menu was excellent! From their dinner menu, I started with the Bacon and Pear Salad. This salad is slices of caramelized William pear, cubes of creamy Feta cheese, crisp bacon, all lightly dressed in Irish honey & wholegrain mustard vinaigrette. This was a delicious starter before the main course, the vinaigrette was excellent! For dinner, I went with the Hannigan's Classic Beef Burger, which is prime Irish beef topped with smoked cheddar cheese, Irish bacon, on homemade pickled cucumber, lettuce, and tangy relish, served with a side of French Fries. This burger was great, cooked perfectly and the Irish bacon on top along with the tangy relish elevated this burger. For dessert, I went with the Bread & Butter Pudding with vanilla ice cream & Anglaise sauce. This was so good; the vanilla ice cream was incredibly creamy and the sauce on the bread pudding sets it apart from others I've had before!
