I am just back from a stay in Tralee and due to the Listowel Races I was unable to find a hotel for…read morea reasonable price. For that reason myself and my girlfriend booked into the Castle Hostel. We went with a double room which had all of the basics, bed, tv, bedside lockers, bathroom with an electric shower. Everything worked as it should. The receptionist was very friendly also and gave us 2 keys so we each had a set. There also was no curfew this was very beneficial as we intended being out late having a few drinks with friends. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is you could hear pretty much everything people in the hallway might say as the walls must have been fairly thin. But this is extremly minor, it didn't really bother us that much, but we would always be paranoid we might be talking too loud then for others staying in the hostel. They also have free wifi throughout the hostel which was fairly reliable, and we could pick it up even in our room which was on the top floor. Highly recommended.

I ended up here after staying at another hostel the night before. Unknowingly I ended up…read morehitchhiking to Tralee the final day of the Rose of Tralee Festival, in which the The Rose was to be crowned. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_of_Tralee_(festival) . Unlike the previous hostel, this one was much orderly and provided better amenities. It was only €18 for the 8-bed dorm. To my surprise, a towel was provided with each bed. Almost all the hostels in Western Europe charge extra to rent a towel. A decent breakfast spread was provided 7:45-9:45am consisting of toast and cereals. Tea and coffee was available free all day. I was provided a key to the front entrance and dorm room so didn't have to worry about curfew. Locker facilities were available but you needed to get the key from reception. The hostel was pretty chill the night I was there. A group of Germans had finished the Dingle Way and were just happy to relax and not do anything. My only complaint would be that the wifi only worked in the common rooms and not in the 8-bed dorm room. And the door to the dorm room didn't close all the way and it was a pain to open the door using the key so the door was left open most of the times. Overall, great place to stay while in Tralee.

Yet, everything in the central area of Cork City is just a short walk away. The hostel also provides great views of Cork, and the building itself has a lot of character. It is not utilitarian as many other hostels are. The walls are painted vibrant colors and the architecture has a very rustic feel. As for the rooms...the rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and the staff is helpful and friendly. You couldn't ask for more!

This hostel wasn't very memorable to be completely honest. It wasn't anything terrible but it…read morecertainly wasn't anything to write home about. The entry is very welcoming. It is decorated in a colorful manner that felt energizing. It really felt like what you would expect from a hostel. The employees were not the most helpful and seemed to get a kick out of messing with the American tourists. One of them was downright rude. We wound up having to go up and down from our room 3 times because they told us to pick beds and every time we did they told us to pick new beds because those were already taken. It was rather annoying. What was really annoying was that come midnight, there were still only 4 of us in the room and almost all the beds we had tried to pick were still empty! The rooms did include their own restrooms and showers, which was nice. There was also a decent view from our window and the beds were comfortable enough. Anywho. The kitchen was decent enough but the burners for the stove wouldn't light properly. There wasn't very much storage space available but at least the fridge wasn't a complete disaster. The dining are was ridiculously huge and come breakfast it was crawling with people from the hostel. If you have social anxiety or simply don't like people, skip breakfast.

The best hostel I stayed in during my 6 weeks in Ireland, maybe the best hostel I've stayed ever! I…read moremainly stayed here because I missed being in a small village and wanted to climb Mount Brandon. To get to the village of Cloghane without a car, you can take a bus from Tralee. Or you can do what I did and hitchhike! The Irish are such warm, friendly chatty people that I highly recommend hitchhiking in Ireland. Anyway, the nearest "big" town is Dingle which is a 20-minute scenic drive, but there is no direct bus from/to there. Again, you can easily hitchhike it there or see if anyone at the hostel is going there. There is a small grocery store in town, plus a couple of pubs that serve food, however no ATMs. You may want to bring your own groceries like I did. Breakfast is included and includes different cereals including small cereal boxes for the kids, a variety of breads including soda bread (!), spreads, butter, yogurt, milk, tea, coffee--all available out in the open all day. The large kitchen has several burners, ovens, dishwasher, plenty of pots, pans, and dishes. And more impressively, french press coffee makers! The location is amazing. Right near the water. It's a shame it rains even in August, otherwise it would've been a nice place to hang out and have a meal. The best way to reserve your room or bed is to call directly. You can book online through Hostelbookers.com but noticed the price was a bit more there. The 4-bed female dorm room included an ensuite bathroom. It was on the small side so can be crowded with everyone's backpacks lying around. No worries since I spent most of my time in the common area. There were other shower and toilet facilities in case someone was using the ensuite bathroom. The common room was such a nice place to hang out especially after a day of hiking. So comfortable and cozy! During my 3 days, there were several families, a few couples, and a group of German girls who were doing the Dingle Way. The staff is great. After hiking Mount Brandon, my shoes, socks, everything got wet. One of the staff members helped me dry my shoes. Then I got my laundry done which was finished fast by European standards since they have a dryer! Mary, the owner, ended up waiving the €5 laundry charge since I stayed 3 days! Highly recommend this place if you want to get away from the cities and experience Irish hospitality in a small town. And of course, climb Mount Brandon.
