Party 'till 5…read more Sheila's was clean, conveniently located, with friendly staff. The Saturday night party/commotion in the rooms and hallways didn't quit until 5 am. If that's the environment you're looking for, then Sheila's is the place for you. If, on the other hand, you actually want to sleep at night, then avoid this hostel.

...can I give this place negative stars? I've been wanting to ever since I visited their place…read moreback in spring '09 for reading break. I had to spend two nights here. One of the bad things was the fact that I kept waking up and banging my head against the top bunk. Like, ow. You can't even moderately sit up straight. Biggest problem was huge, though... the room stank. Royally reeked. It was so bad I couldn't sleep. It was coming from the bathroom, and it smelled like poo and mold. You heard me, the room I stayed in smelled like POO AND MOLD. The only reason I didn't try and find another hostel was that my card didn't want to work in Ireland, and I was out of cash, and they don't do refunds for their rooms SMELLING LIKE POO AND MOLD. Pro's: free wifi. They now charge for internet, but it was free back then on their computers. Otherwise I wouldn't have used it. The wifi is decent, and I used it often, escaping my room for the comfort of the main room with couches and seats that did *not* SMELL LIKE POO AND MOLD. Their prices didn't stink as much as their room, and they exchange money at the desk, and they have a luggage check room. It's also pretty close to everything else going on in Cork, even though it's somewhat of an uphill hike to get there. Okay. I think I'm done. ...POO AND MOLD.

It's what you'd expect for the price. Slightly salty about the bathrooms. The upstairs bathroom…read moredoes not lock. It also has toilet paper that's of lesser quality than Kleenex tissues. The hand soap was mixed with water, I'm assuming to extend the life of the bottle. And no paper towels, there's just a rag, albeit a nice quality rag, dangling from what i assume is a coat hook to dry your hands. The WiFi is a little slow but good enough. No breakfast but it has a kitchen you can use to cook, and you can pay 7€ to wash and dry your clothes. They weren't busy when i arrived so i was upgraded from a 10 person room (i think) to a 4 person room. The 4 person room would be a tad tight, if 4 people were sleeping in it (i stayed in the room with one other person). Not the worst hostel I've been in by far, but It gets a 2/5 largely due to the bathroom experience i had.

I stayed in the B and B section which was great. I was nervous because I'd never stayed at a hostel…read moreand wasn't sure what the B and B would look like. We had been staying at the Clarence in dublin until our drive to Kerry and we preferred this B and B!! The owner and staff were super friendly and nice. There's a great pub call TJ Ryan's down the road that literally had the best pint of Guinness that we've ever had in our lives!!! The breakfast was yummy and worth the extra charge. Everyone that we ran into whether they were staying in the hostel or the B and B were so friendly. The room was clean and basic but modern and mostly all new. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. The rock of cashel is a must see!!
