Yet, everything in the central area of Cork City is just a short walk away. The hostel also provides great views of Cork, and the building itself has a lot of character. It is not utilitarian as many other hostels are. The walls are painted vibrant colors and the architecture has a very rustic feel. As for the rooms...the rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and the staff is helpful and friendly. You couldn't ask for more!

It is decorated in a colorful manner that felt energizing. It really felt like what you would expect from a hostel. The employees were not the most helpful and seemed to get a kick out of messing with the American tourists. One of them was downright rude. We wound up having to go up and down from our room 3 times because they told us to pick beds and every time we did they told us to pick new beds because those were already taken. It was rather annoying. What was really annoying was that come midnight, there were still only 4 of us in the room and almost all the beds we had tried to pick were still empty! The rooms did include their own restrooms and showers, which was nice. There was also a decent view from our window and the beds were comfortable enough. Anywho. The kitchen was decent enough but the burners for the stove wouldn't light properly. There wasn't very much storage space available but at least the fridge wasn't a complete disaster. The dining are was ridiculously huge and come breakfast it was crawling with people from the hostel. If you have social anxiety or simply don't like people, skip breakfast.

An Stór is a owner-operated youth hostel in Midleton, approx. 20 km from Cork city centre, so Cork is easily reachable. There is a large private parking available at the hostel for free. We stayed for one night in a 8-person bedroom, which was nice and clean. The sheets were all very fresh and clean, too. The bathroom is small, but this is a hostel and not the Hilton. All in all, you get a good and cheap stay reasonably near to Cork and it's Tourist attractions.

This is probably the cleanest and tidiest place I've EVER stayed whilst traveling! Great access to the city centre... maybe a two minute walk down the road? WiFi is only available in the kitchen and lobby. As soon as you go into another area of the hostel, the WiFi cuts off. I even tried going to the living room next to the lobby, and I lost the WiFi connection. Washrooms were plain weird. You had one huge washroom in a room for 8 people, and there were no curtains or anything to keep the water from leaving the shower area. So basically, after you showered you were walking around on a wet floor trying not to fall. Also, you have to bring your own towel or pay to use one. Breakfast was average. You got toast, a couple of fruit options, jam, butter, 2 choices of cereal and coffee/tea.

This little quaint pub is a throw back to the time of my parents and possibly even my grandparents. They have all manner of things from wellies to light bulbs on sale behind the counter. The floor space is small but great to chat w the locals. The bar man is friendly and full of banter. This is truly a traditional Irish pub in every sense-the old counter, the polished brass, the stuff for sale-it feels like a step back in time. Totally worth a trip for locals and guests alike! Beware though, not sure if there is a local taxi so plan to have a designated driver!
