Bunratty Manor Hotel - Broken thermostat and dirty filter

We were greeted by Joan. She did not give the typical friendly Irish reception. When we chose to…read morenot eat at the hotel's restaurant, she told us we would be disappointed, but not in a fun way. Our room had two nonworking lamps, which turned into three nonworking lamps. She brought us two different lamps that did work, but it would've been nice to have the third one. She said, "You like your lamps, do you?" Bathroom garbage had been left from previous guests. Street traffic and party revelers awakened me late into the wee hours of the morning. Not my favorite stay in Ireland.

Nobody there to help us bring bags in when we got there. We bought some cheese in Galway and were…read morenot allowed to eat it in the bar EVEN THOUGH THEY WERENT OFFERING FOOD ANYMORE THAT DAY. So, our group had to venture to a nearby pub to order some food. We brought back takeout for a couple of young parents in our group that stayed behind with their baby. THEY WERE THEN BANISHED TO THE SITTING ROOM TO EAT THEIR TAKEOUT. Again, nobody was allowed to bring a morsel of food into their bar that was NOT serving food. There was hardly anyone there!! Just not a warm first impression. We were exhausted and starving, and that was a dumb rule. The woman at the front desk was not particularly pleasant, and she was also the bartender. Our room was sub par, cigarette burns in the tub. No extra toilet paper in the room when we ran out. And the broken thermostat was blinking the whole stay, begging for a filter change...gross. The china was also dirty at breakfast. The only pluses I will give to this place: the sitting and dining rooms were decorated well and the OTHER staff (NOT the receptionist/bartender) were pleasant. Owner also seemed nice.

Don't waste your hard earned Euros/Dollars on this hotel...read on…read more If you like a room with your sauna this is your place. However, if you want to control the temperature in your room look elsewhere because once the front desk flips the heater switch there is no turning back. If you enjoy sweaty pajamas while reclining on top of the bedspread throughout the night the Clonmel is an excellent choice. Management, clueless and inept, was contacted three times regarding the room temperature and said "we cannot do anything about the heater and we cannot change your room." Great! and the top of the morning to you too.... Dining at the Clonmel is an experience not to be forgotten. The three members of my family ordered steak, seafood and a chicken dish, but unfortunately we ordered "chicken wings with a salad" appetizer...very bad choice. The skinny wings with the flappers attached were deep fried and had a sickly non-breading grayish-beige hue and greasily sat atop some lettuce and tomato bits. Accompanying the chicken wings was a room temperature container of BBQ sauce. The main courses were just as awful and we should have walked 50 feet out the front door to the KFC in the parking lot. Of all the hotels I stayed at in Ireland, and there has been many, this is place doesn't deserve a half star especially after booking two rooms at $121.00 each. Management generously offered $16 off our food bill as compensation for the heater...wow!

Really, this is a rating for the bar. We stayed in this hotel the night we got engaged and had a…read morelovely dinner here. After our meal, we decided to have a nightcap. There was a rather elderly fellow sitting next to the Mister at the bar and he overheard us discussing our engagement. Well - we had a new friend! He was thrilled we would have such an important event in his area and we discussed his kids who now live in the US. After about 10 more beers I went up to bed. Mister dragged himself to bed much later. Turns out our new BFF had just walked down for a paper and his wife had to come collect him. This is the kind of good time you can expect here - people are welcoming, kind and you wont be a stranger for long!

I was craving the chicken curry dish, my husband got the meat plate (steak fillet, two lamb chops and two pork links- all three on a layer of mashed potatoes, fries AND onion rings!!! His plate was 16.95Euro! So reasonable for this amount of food and it was A LOT of food!!!! My husband loved it so did I. The meat tender and brilliant. He is still talking about how wonderful his dish was. My curry chicken dish came with fries and rice- again it's a lot of food that I couldn't finish 15.95 again SO reasonable!! Not only was the food brilliant our conversation was great with the owner Mickey. We chatted for a good long while and we feel like we made a new friend! This is the best food we've had on our travels thus far, a fantastic hole in the wall find. You won't regret waiting for your food!
