This place was our hands-down favorite, a perfect combination of charm, convenience and friendliness. We arrived in town without reservations, and the only hotel was booked. They recommended Copperfield House around the corner. The upstairs room was perfect, with a modern hotel-like bathroom and comfortable beds. The dining room was elegant with a great garden view, and breakfast was superb. Josephine offered to get up quite early on Sunday morning to make us breakfast on our last day as we had to drive to Dublin to catch the flight home. We'd recommend this place to anyone.

There was a rather elderly fellow sitting next to the Mister at the bar and he overheard us discussing our engagement. Well - we had a new friend! He was thrilled we would have such an important event in his area and we discussed his kids who now live in the US. After about 10 more beers I went up to bed. Mister dragged himself to bed much later. Turns out our new BFF had just walked down for a paper and his wife had to come collect him. This is the kind of good time you can expect here - people are welcoming, kind and you wont be a stranger for long!

I was craving the chicken curry dish, my husband got the meat plate (steak fillet,two lamb chops and two pork links- all three on a layer of mashed potatoes, fries AND onion rings!!! His plate was 16.95Euro! So reasonable for this amount of food and it was A LOT of food!!!! My husband loved it so did I. The meat tender and brilliant. He is still talking about how wonderful his dish was. My curry chicken dish came with fries and rice- again it's a lot of food that I couldn't finish 15.95 again SO reasonable!! Not only was the food brilliant our conversation was great with the owner Mickey. We chatted for a good long while and we feel like we made a new friend! If you don't want the full Irish (which i must say is good as they serve mushrooms, potatoes, bacon etc) there is not much other choice. I love fruit for my breakfast and bowls of tinned fruit is a poor substitute. The fruit salad only had apples, mandarin and a few bits of melon in it which is had to pick out. So i had to fill up on hot breakfast stuff and coffee. As i don't eat much in the way of bread that was ok but for my children they were disappointed not to find any pastries. The location of the hotel is just off the M8 but really there is no-where else in the little town/village other than a shop to see. Thurles is about 10 minutes drive away which is one of those grid-locked towns which should have a by-pass so that people visiting the town are not stuck in lines and lines of traffic. The evening meals in the hotel are rather expensive and without any neighbouring rivals they can be as there is not even a take-away near by that i could see. But the food we did eat was lovely, my daughter had a steak from the kids menu which was really nice. The chicken wings though were SPICY, so much so they could only be eaten with a side order of a jug of water! The pool is nice enough and the staff were very friendly, they even gave us swimming hats! Sadly i did'nt get a chance to use the gym as i had two kids with me but it looked quite good for a hotel gym. The staff on checkout were helpful, one of them kindly rang a couple of petfarms to see if they were open. They did have free wi-fi but it kept going off on me and was only really good in the bar area.

We've been in Carrick for three weeks, staying nearby, and walk to the hotel's restaurant nearly every day for tea, coffee, scones, and sometimes for lunch or dinner. The Carraig has the best wi-fi internet we've found in the town, giving us a chance to remain in touch with home in the U.S. The staff here is the best, friendly, helpful. They're open from about 8 AM until late, and can pull a really nice pint (or half-pint if you prefer) of Guinness, as well as a selection of other beverages. We haven't had occasion to use the hotel facilities, but no doubt they'll measure up to the downstairs. Thanks to all the staff for providing a home away from home.

Our room was sub par, cigarette burns in the tub. No extra toilet paper in the room when we ran out. And the broken thermostat was blinking the whole stay, begging for a filter change...gross. The china was also dirty at breakfast. The only pluses I will give to this place: the sitting and dining rooms were decorated well and the OTHER staff (NOT the receptionist/bartender) were pleasant. The event space was beautiful. We were blown away by the food at dinner the evening before and at the wedding reception. Our friends are still talking about the risotto, beef Wellington and the fillet. It's rare to experience fine dining at an event, but that's exactly what was provided for us. Our family has traveled extensively. We can happily report that Dromoland is the best overall experience that we have ever had in a hotel. The castle and grounds are gorgeous and meticulously maintained. Most historic hotels have fusty guest rooms. Dromoland had modern, luxurious rooms with state of the art fittings. Everything in the rooms was great, but the beds and showers were world class. Our guests were raving about their accommodations. The common areas were fun to spend time in. The live music was a treat. The food at the castle is by far the best food we had in Ireland. It would hold its own against any fine dining establishment. The bride and groom had an amazing dinner in the Earl of Thomond restaurant. I had the best fish and chips of my life in the Gallery and was pleased to quaff my first pint of Guinness in Ireland at the cocktail bar. Breakfast was an event in itself. The food and service were amazing. We commandeered a large table and spent a couple of hours every morning with a rotating cast of family and friends. The excellent staff took it all in stride. The activities were great- my family was captivated by the falconry. Jane's hotel tour was a lot of fun. One friend played an enjoyable round of golf and our kids tried skeet shooting- all were very happy. Many of us had excursions organized by Dromoland. The drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. The thing that sets Dromoland apart from every other hotel that we have ever stayed at is the level of service. The staff are charming and amazingly helpful. They often anticipated our needs. The attention to detail was awesome. The rooms and common areas were meticulously clean. Turndown service was lovely. The housekeeping staff would even tidy up chargers and cords when they made their rounds. The wedding and our extended stay at Dromoland was a peak experience for our family and friends. We can't recommend the castle highly enough. We should have stayed a few more days just to relax.
