I ate at this hotel for 3 months and loved every meal I ate there. They are always changing the soups, sandwiches, and entree specials. If you enjoy dessert, they have a selection of delicious sweet treats, pure happiness and heaven come to mind when I think about their chocolate mousse pie :). Their brown bread is delicious too with the soup. The Gaelic Steak is to DIE FOR! Its got this lovely mushroom sauce with it that makes you want to like the bowl clean :) The chicken curry dish is AMAZING, just the right flavors, hot, but not burning, although I will admit I sweat a few times when I had the dish, I'm not mad about it ha. The servers are very nice and attentive. During peak times, they can be a little slower, but that's to be expected. Altogether a great place to go and relax to watch games or just hang out with friends and family. Atmosphere is nice too!!

I'm not thrilled with Dungarvan overall, but Lawlor's treated me well. I have many, many notes to…read moreshare. 1) People are generally unfriendly in this town, at least to "outsiders". The hotel staff was polite, though. 2) Restaurants and bars are very separate things. Bars are crowded, restaurants are quiet. People drink outside as if it's a meal - at dinnertime, even alone. I don't get it. I don't get this town at all. But the hotel room was cozy. 3) I was given a room in a very quiet corridor. The hall light only came on when I entered it. That said, I didn't realize my room was against the ice machine. Fortunately, the ice machine is relatively quiet and dosen't make ice-plopping noises. Also fortunately, my sleeping hours coincided exactly with the hours no one used the ice machine. (For reference, plan to sleep from 11:30 to 7:00.) 4) Also, there was some random street work outside with people talking back and forth. Again, starting at 7:00. 5) Minus one star for the included breakfast. It's not an Irish breakfast. It's a few types of cereal, juices, and yogurt. I was rather saddened by this. 6) Your bed will be a single. Learn not to move while asleep. All in all, it's a very strong 3 stars and I had it at 4 until remembering the breakfast. IMO better off not offering any sort of breakfast at all rather than a very basic continental. Not quite a B&B despite the sometimes-billing.

I was visiting Dungarven on a sad occasion. One of my good friends parents passed away. Knowing the…read morehouse would be full I found Lawlors Hotel on Booking.com. I remembered passing it from previous visits to this beautiful seaside town. It's very central. Checking in was fine but I had to ask was there parking as it wasn't obvious, there is absolutely no signs on the street. When I got up to the 1st floor where I was staying it was clear why I had gotten such a good deal on the room. The corridors were old, the walls an off cream colour and the wood around the doors of the rooms, almost seemed crooked. They seemed to have packed as many rooms in as possible. The room itself was what you expected for €58, it was small but with a new bathroom. I flicked on the TV but could only get RTE 1. I headed out and didn't return til about 11pm. Once back in the room I realised I could hear every word in the room next to me. Drunk people talk really loudly on the phone. Thank God for football. I watch the highlights of the Euro 2012, but even getting the TV on was a challenge. Ah, we now have more than one station. At midnight the nightclub/DJ started. I might as well have been sleeping on the dance floor. I'm beginning to wonder if the walls and floors are made of sawdust. This goes on til 2am. No sleep for me. I get awoken at 4am by people running up and down the corridors, knocking on doors and the sound of someone vomiting somewhere. This continues for a solid hour. And I can hear every. single. word. And feel every vibration from the people running up and down the corridor. At 5.15am I pack it in and decided not to stay to see how bad breakfast is. I have it in my mind to complain to the night porter, but when I get down the the lobby I'm confronted by this elderly gentleman on his own collecting various glasses and bottles from the session that had been going on. He gets a phonecall as I'm checking out from one of the residents complaining about the noise. I'm not the only one. "I'll be up immediately." I feel sorry for him. I say nothing. I've wondered since, 10 years ago I probably would have been one of the revellers. Was I that thoughtless when I was off my bean drunk? I'm so beyond that lifestyle now. I know, I sound like a cranky oulfella. I wasn't there for a good night out. Still, the lack of respect for everyone else in the hotel that wasn't partying down stairs was pretty appalling.

I have stayed in a great number of B&B guesthouses in Ireland, but I remember St Anthonys in…read moreDungarvan the most favourably. Dungarvan or Dún Garbhán is in Co. Waterford is in the 'Sunny SouthEast', 48km east of Waterford city. It commands Dungarvan Bay and is overlooked by the Comeragh Mountains. St Anthonys guesthouse is no more than 10mins walk from the centre of Dungarvan, which is a very attractive coastal town. There were 5 of us staying here for 4 days, one woman, who had, (naturally), a double to herself, with us four blokes, in 2 rooms with twin beds. All of these rooms were really nice centrally heated, bright & airy rooms, with en-suite bathrooms, (fabulous easy to use power shower in the twin rooms, nice bath as well as the shower in the double). For a caffeine addict like me there was a more than generous selection of tea, coffee & biscuits, in the rooms! Also tv with good reception, which wasn't always the case in other places we stayed, & my laptop easily found a Wi Fi connection, and kept it. Kay, the landlady was so friendly, and genuinely lovely, and couldn't do enough for us. I think the breakfast was not just the nicest cooked breakfast I 'd had in Ireland, but in any hotel or B&B I've ever stayed in! I'm vegetarian, and instead of gazing at me in alien puzzlement, as often I get, she effortlessly whipped up a gorgeous tomato omelette the first morning, and then went out shopping especially to buy quorn sausages the next. My friends, who are all of the more carnivorous persuasion, were greatly impressed with her generous full works Irish breakfast I can tell you, and Jo, our superior sole female was even catered for when she got out of bed at 10.30 one morning! There are excellent laundry facilities in the guesthouse, and here again Kay was fantastic, as beyond the call of duty for her, she did laundry for us not just once but twice in the 4 days we stayed. Don't ask me to do the maths, but It worked out as an incredibly reasonable rate, us 5 staying & sharing, our boss so to speak who is both careful & cash-strapped was well pleased. Also because all the rooms are generous sized, we didn't once feel cramped or in each others pockets. I bought Kay a nice box of chocolates when we left, in gratitude for her being so fabulous, and making us feel not like guests but as family members.

There are stairs leading into the building, narrow hallways, an elevator that barely holds a rollator and two people. But that's just the start of our experience so far. Even though the room we have is somewhat accessible the shower would not be for anyone with mobility issues. The shower appears to be recently renovated as does the rest of the bathroom the entrance to the shower is small and the floor is slippery!!! Not what you want for anyone. The issues continue, the mattress is old and has a foam topper on it. Needs a new mattress that provides some support. You only get about 12 tv channels and of that only about two have anything that's remotely interesting. We luckily came back to our room at 6pm only to find two servers from the cafe below locking the front door. No one told us the door gets locked and we were never told how to get in. Need anything after the receptionist has left at 5? You need to call to the sister hotel to have one of their staff help you. There is no a/c, not a big problem as you are located near the water so there would be cooling over the evening hours. But the windows are heavy and you need blocks of wood to hold them open. Again no one told us until we called to find this out. Again we had to call to the sister hotel to have someone bring something to prop the windows open. They do provide a Dyson fan but without the windows open it just blows around hot air. There's a large Ardmore in the room for hanging clothes, etc. That's great except there are no handles on it. Want to open it? You need to reach up to the top of the door to do that. Out of luck if you are short. Internet? Almost non-existent. Connections keep dropping, can't connect to websites, not even sure I'll finish this post before I lose the connection again. Think you get the idea. This establishment may work for some but there is no way we can recommend it and this is only our first night of a two night stay.

I had arranged this stay through booking.com. When I arrived the following day at the hotel, they told me they would not be able to refund what I had paid for the first night and to contactbooking.com Which I did and booking.com said they would appeal to the manager of the hotel and ask for my money back. The hotel claimed they never received a call from me canceling the first night and that they were unable to refund me. I am very angry with this decision, and would caution anyone who plans to stay there, that they will not even, for an act of God Refund your money!
