Yet, everything in the central area of Cork City is just a short walk away. The hostel also provides great views of Cork, and the building itself has a lot of character. It is not utilitarian as many other hostels are. The walls are painted vibrant colors and the architecture has a very rustic feel. As for the rooms...the rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and the staff is helpful and friendly. You couldn't ask for more!

An Stór is a owner-operated youth hostel in Midleton, approx. 20 km from Cork city centre, so Cork is easily reachable. There is a large private parking available at the hostel for free. We stayed for one night in a 8-person bedroom, which was nice and clean. The sheets were all very fresh and clean, too. The bathroom is small, but this is a hostel and not the Hilton. All in all, you get a good and cheap stay reasonably near to Cork and it's Tourist attractions.

Unfortunately I didn't stay at their hostel (ended up up the road) but for a similar price and offering a discount on your pint if you're staying the night...plus late night access to the bar after 2am. Bru Bar kicked off our Cork Pub Crawl and introduced me to an excellent Howling Eight Degrees Gale Ale that stimulated the taste-buds and perked up the mind to get the crawl off on a good foot. Later made our way back here for some late night music on their small stage and played some 8-ball in the back with very attractive Italian girls who were staying at Bru for the night.

Reception was open when I arrived after midnight, but strangely, they had no record of the booking I had made through HostelWorld earlier in the week. The guy on reception even let me show him my confirmation e-mail. Thankfully they had ONE dorm bed left, if they hadn't, I would've been up the creek without a paddle. The 8 bed dorm seemed clean and spacious enough (in the dark) and the ensuite (toilet and shower) were clean. But since the toilet and shower are together, it was hard to get in the bathroom the next morning. Breakfast was toast, jam, butter, tea and coffee. The free WIFI near the pay internet was very much appreciated. Another staff member was kind enough to give me directions to the bus station in the morning. The hostel matched the price, recommended.

The hand soap was mixed with water, I'm assuming to extend the life of the bottle. And no paper towels, there's just a rag, albeit a nice quality rag, dangling from what i assume is a coat hook to dry your hands. The WiFi is a little slow but good enough. No breakfast but it has a kitchen you can use to cook, and you can pay 7€ to wash and dry your clothes. They weren't busy when i arrived so i was upgraded from a 10 person room (i think) to a 4 person room. The 4 person room would be a tad tight, if 4 people were sleeping in it (i stayed in the room with one other person). Not the worst hostel I've been in by far, but It gets a 2/5 largely due to the bathroom experience i had.

We had been staying at the Clarence in dublin until our drive to Kerry and we preferred this B and B!! The owner and staff were super friendly and nice. There's a great pub call TJ Ryan's down the road that literally had the best pint of Guinness that we've ever had in our lives!!! The breakfast was yummy and worth the extra charge. Everyone that we ran into whether they were staying in the hostel or the B and B were so friendly. The room was clean and basic but modern and mostly all new. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. The rock of cashel is a must see!!
