"Iced specialty coffee" and "black iced coffee" after we poured some out and tried to mix it. Drinkable now lol

Unfortunately had the worst coffee I've tried in a while here. Ordered a brown sugar specialty iced coffee which took so long to make. Someone handed it to us and immediately disappeared back into the kitchen immediately. It tasted like I ordered an iced latte 2 hrs ago and it all melted. I think they just poured boiling coffee over ice and added the syrup. After waiting for 15 min we finally found a staff member and asked for a remake. They were really nice and did remake it but it was somehow worse. So we just asked for a cup of black coffee to mix it with and that was a slight improvement. Really nice staff (when you can find them) but do yourself a favor and make coffee over the campfire (we forgot our instant coffee at home, will not be making that mistake again lol) Pictured: "Iced specialty coffee" and "black iced coffee" after we poured some out and tried to mix it lol

I'm rating for what it is--a seasonal mountain restaurant. Might give 3 stars if in town. Orders are taken at the host desk, so you do need to know your full order before being seated. Our experience with service was better than some of the other reviewers--wait at desk wasn't too long and food came reasonably quickly. (I suspect one reviewer with a terrible experience in late May might have been there soon after the summer season started, when staff was still learning the ropes.) However, we were there at about 11:30 am on a Wednesday. The line had grown by the time we left, and I can only imagine it's slammed on weekends. They could alleviate this by adding kiosk ordering. We failed to note the name of my husband's sandwich, and oddly it's not on the menu at the restaurant's own website (only hours after we were there). It was pulled meat with green peppers, bacon, and mushrooms on a hoagie roll, and he liked it a lot. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and was less impressed--the sandwich itself was fine, but the chicken was overcooked and dry. Pesto pasta salad and vegetarian soup as our sides were pretty good. The servers were efficient and polite, but I couldn't find one when I wanted a to go cup and the host line was busy, so I gave up. Water is self service. Inside is a little on the dark side, but with a nice mountain feel. The outside deck (partly in sun) is nice, but the back deck is shaded and great. We had a beautiful view of a meadow, a lovely breeze, and there aren't too many tables out there. There aren't a lot of options in this part of the park, so this is a nice one to have, along with the store, gift shop, and visitor center. If in the area and you don't want to come here, the short drive up to Hume Lake provides more options, especially during the summer when the Christian camps are running and they're fully staffed with everything open. Their amenities (several food options, grocery store, Hume-branded apparel store, gift shop) are open to the public.

Don't expect gourmet food, but it is ok. The main issue is their ordering system. All done via self serve kiosks and there is no one at the front desk to help. I got no receipt and literally had to open the door to the kitchen to verify that they had received my order. I am ok with kiosks, but the elderly people behind us were not. Definitely not user friendly.

Depending on the time you eat; 1130 before the lunch rush, on Mondays, The Grant Burger was awesome. 30 minutes later on Wednesday, It was crap. Burger was over cooked with no pickles, one piece of lettus and a tiny bit of onion. So, be careful when you dine.

My wife and I came and ate food here 3 times during our trip to Kings Canyon National Park. We overall had a great experience and it proved to be convenient and affordable compared to some of the other restaurants we went to outside of the parks. Grant Grove has a nice space, a cabin-lodge feel with plenty of seating inside and outside. In our first visit (which I would have given 3 stars) I ordered a chicken salad wrap--unfortunately the wrap was 70% lettuce with only what felt like a spoonful of chicken salad--I was pretty disappointed (feel free to look at the pics attached for reference). Came with a bag of chips on the side. In our 2nd visit we came in the early morning, around 7:15 AM for breakfast. (5 stars) I ordered the "Hikers Breakfast"--scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon and a couple of pancakes. I was super impressed, the breakfast was hearty and got us super full, ready for a long day of hiking. The hash browns were crisp and the pancakes were nice and fluffy. Was a great start to our day!! I had an iced coffee with vanilla syrup to down it all (also so good). In our last visit to Grant Grove I ate the Caprese Panini with a side of fruit (5 stars). The pesto was delicious and the sandwich's warmth and the melted mozzarella made me want more. Fruit was.....just fruit! Decided to go a "healthier route," and it was overall a good meal. Definitely recommend dropping by if you want something convenient and still good!

This is a solid four stars, prob closer to 4.5. The only issue was the confusing ordering setup... there are kiosks but there's also a lady at what appears to be a hostess station. We placed our order w/ her but the machine was down so luckily we had cash. The restaurant is large and there's an outdoor deck that overlooks the forest. Even though it was barely 40 degrees, we opted to eat outside because why not!? It's gorgeous. Hubs had a Cuban panini. I had a caprese panini. They came w/ kettle cooked chips. They were hot, they were full of flavor and really hit the spot after a long morning hike.

    Overflowing trash can

Dining room was filthy with no one bussing or wiping down tables or emptying trash. Every trash can in the dining room is overflowing and pilled high with dirty dishes

Although understaffed, the young workers go out of their way to provide great service! The food is brought to your table and placed in front of each individual. It broke my heart to see a white family be so condescending and dismissive when the servers checked on them, thanked them and wished them a good day and a bon apetito. Would it be so hard to acknowledge the people that are serving you? Say thank you at least!

Ordering was a bit cumbersome. We had to go into the restaurant dining area to order & pay at a kiosk, and then wait outside for our order number to be called from the pick-up window. Luckily, they weren't very busy & our wait wasn't long, but the process definitely was not smooth. Inside, the tables were open for dining, but the serving lines were not; orders had to be placed via kiosk. Tables were also available outside in the courtyard. All that aside, my grilled trout sandwich was outstanding! And hubs enjoyed his hamburger. We were quite pleased and satisfied with our meals here. Prices were reasonable as well.

Perhaps we just ordered the right things? We got their Grilled Salmon (which was phenomenal) and their daily special, which was a Beef Stroganoff (which was good). Yes, it's a bit more expensive than, you might get in town, but they had to haul all the food up all this way. And haul all these workers up all this way, so it's actually a pretty good deal for what you're getting. The beer is cheaper than what I paid in Bakersfield. There are entrees as low as 9.99. I quite enjoyed the chicken pot pie. We did think the chicken marsala was a little bit dry and probably won't order that again. But so far, it's actually a really promising experience. The service is good, it's comfortable. I think it fully deserves four stars.

I've driven this road more times than I can count--always in a hurry to reach June Lake, Mammoth, or somewhere that sounds like a destination. And each time, I pass the same towns, the same reservations, the same hand-painted signs, barely noticed as they blur past my window. But today... today was different. Somewhere near Fort Independence, the kind of place most maps barely nod to, a sign caught my eye: "Indian Tacos." Nothing fancy. Just those two words, painted with purpose. As a member of a tribe myself, I pulled over. Not just out of curiosity, but a sense of kinship--and hunger. Mostly hunger. The setup? A weathered travel trailer, charming in its honesty, not trying to be something it's not. I approached with an open heart and a growling stomach. A kind man greeted me with a smile and said the words that every road-weary traveler longs to hear: "I make the fry bread fresh." What followed was nothing short of a spiritual experience. The Indian Taco was a masterpiece: pillowy-soft fry bread that could bring a tear to your eye, topped with perfectly seasoned meat, crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and fresh salsa that tasted like it had been made that very morning--because it probably was. I told my friends. They grimaced. "You ate what from where?" they asked, horrified at the idea of eating from a rundown trailer on the side of a reservation road. But that's the difference between us. Some people need Michelin stars to validate a meal. I just need fresh fry bread and someone who knows what they're doing. Kumazaa Nobi, tucked away on the Fort Independence Indian Reservation, isn't a stop--it's a discovery.
