It reminds me of a nice updated, yet old school butcher shop with a long glass counter across the back and freezers and coolers organized in an easy to shop fashion out in the front. I recommend trying their little smoky snack sticks. They also make good salaminis. You can find bratwurst in a variety of fantastic flavors. You just can't beat a great small town butcher shop. If you don't live close, they are worth the trip.

If you are looking for delicious "natural casing hot dogs", this is the place. They make a lot of them and I am sure you could place an order for a large crowd. They call them "funeral franks" since this is what it served locally at church memorials in town. It is a bit of an odd term, but that is the term they use. I need to make another trip out there and pick up some more. I have not tried anything else there so I cannot comment on the meat they sell. This establishment is a small butcher shop, deli, and they will process any of your prize animals or deer. It also operates as a wholesaler.

The potato salad was excellent though, that I'll agree with. Perhaps it was dining near the end of the shift, or dining while they were so heavily short-staffed (they had a sign up), or a combination of both, but, both orders were lackluster. Service was friendly and excellent, but not the sandwiches. I'll try to stop by in the morning if I'm in the area, and see if that makes a difference.

Schwegel's is a fantastic little local grocery store with a top-notch butcher counter. It's a shame…read morethat they don't get the attention they deserve. The customer service is what you'd expect from a small town market, personalized and friendly. They offer monthly meat bundles that are budget friendly. Their brats will put, Johnsonville Brats to shame and Jimmy Dean's sausage cannot hold a candle to their sausage. Proof that buying local is a good thing. Some of their brands are generic, but with today's economy that is a good thing. There are lots of single little coolers around the store, filled with perishable products. Take note of the prepared foods near the butcher counter. You'll find some delicious side dishes for those tasty brats. Another end-cap to check out, is their branded spices. They're just as good as those expensive name brand spices. If you haven't shopped the aisles of Schwegel's, I recommend you correct that ASAP. You just might become a frequent shopper.

Let me put it this way. My brother made steaks when I was visiting him from Atlanta and it was the best steak I'd ever had anyplace on this green earth so I asked where he got them. Since then I make one flight a year from Atlanta to St. Louis with an empty roller bag to pick up 30-35lbs of Porterhouse, Ribeye and Fillet steaks that I order, my brother picks up and freezes. I go back to the airport and fly home in perfect time to get my meat into the freezer while putting one in the fridge to thaw for Sunday dinner and a football game. MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR STEAKS SEASONED WITH NICK'S SEASONING. All you have to do is unwrap it and put it on a coal fire. They are PERFECT.

It was pretty busy and everyone working in the deli was hustling to get orders out. One of the other customers told me it was BBQ day and strongly recommend the BBQ, but I had my heart set on the chicken Parmesan sandwich. The staff was friendly and helpful after I told them I was a first timer. I picked the banana pudding as the side. I got my order after a few minutes and went toy car to eat. The chicken parm was hot and fresh. The chicken was cooked well with a good outer crust. The sauce was good and there was plenty of cheese. The bread was awesome. Soft on the outside and had a good toasted crisp on the inside. The banana pudding was great. Full of banana flavor, whipped cream and a vanilla wafer. All of that for $8.00, too! I will definitely return and try some of the other items!
