I came to Diana with healthy, jet black, henna dyed hair and was looking to get a color correction. I usually, would DIY lighten my own hair due to my trust issues from a history of my hair being botched by "professionals" at other salons, but there is a lot of risk when bleaching hair that has been previously dyed with henna, so I was not going to take the risk in doing it myself. I was hoping for her to take my jet black hair to somewhere in the blonde range. Diana explained the process thoroughly and told me that it would be just that... a process. Removing henna from the hair can be very risky and results vary, but she reassured me that I would leave her salon looking presentable as though my hair was not going through a transition. She was very attentive to me and my hair as she lightened it. I left her salon with gorgeous hair and lighter results after each appointment. I believe I had 3 appointments total with Diana and the final result was stunning!!!! She did not give me the average, solid haircolor that so many other professionals would. She had lifted my hair to a beautiful ashy blonde with subtle highlights. She gave me a haircolor that looked like I could have been born with it! I wasn't going to write a review because it was just meh but after the text I just got from Joella I feel like I need to share because my experience may help other clients who are like me. First the good: Joella is very sweet. She was easy to talk to and the time went quickly. I felt like she took her time to ask questions about my history with hair color and even what color clothing I typically wear so that I wouldn't wind up with something that clashes with my daily style. We did talk about the maintenance of what I wanted and the pictures I brought in. I think this is where the breakdown in communication happened. I thought Joella was talking about maintaining what I was getting during my current appointment, after the text I received this afternoon she was apparently talking about what it would take for her to give me what I wanted. The bad: I walked out with hair that isn't even in the realm of what I wanted. I wanted my colormelt to fade to a black cherry type color. I showed her a few pictures and they were all heavy on the violet tones. From our conversation I was expecting to have to come in monthly for toner, or she said she could have a custom product made that I could use weekly at-home to help maintain the violet tone I wanted. My hair gets a tiny bit lighter at the ends (then again my ends have previously been bleached from an ombre style and they don't hold the dark colors as well as my roots, so the lightening may be due to that) and in the sun you can see a hint of true red. There is ZERO red-violet in my hair. I got an email asking if I'd recommend Joella or go back for another service and I checked no. I didn't think anything of it until I got a text from Joella this afternoon saying "I'm sorry & know it's frustrating not understanding color chemistry or what it takes to get the results yr wanting in the timeframe. If you feel another stylist would do a better job for you, totally understand. I gravitate towards a clients looking for a serious stylist & committed to results over multiple sessions rather than one. After 3 times of coming in if your still not happy I would advise you to seek out another stylist. Lets get you in for one more session before your trip. I will comp you $50 on your next service of $145 or more. Thanks." First of all, I have friends who have gone to beauty school and I have gone and picked out colors with them enough that I have enough knowledge of color chemistry to know that this wasn't even an attempt to give me what I wanted. I also know enough about color chemistry to know that with how much she darkened my ends I won't get the bright violets I wanted any time soon without having to lift color and damage my ends. My ends are significantly darker than they were when I went to her. I knew my hair wouldn't be EXACTLY what I want after 1 trip, but I've been to plenty of stylists who were able to get me much closer to what I wanted in 1 sitting than she did when what I wanted was a lot more difficult to do.

The process was awkward and silent she said nothing at all. NOTHING. I asked her how long it would take at 3pm, at this point I had been there around two hours. She explained she needed 45 mins for true blowout and over 10 mins at the shampoo bowl.... okay.... so I'm thinking I'll be done at a little past 4pm.... K. Very rudely she mentions that she has corrected Groupon repeatedly and 'do you have the screenshot of the price discussed' 'that's the only way I am able to honor the price' IM SORRY..... did you not just tell me you were the salon owner? You are GREEDY. I went through you to give you full margin of my service cost versus you having to give a portion to Groupon. Now you ask me to prove the cost????? That is the saddest LACK OF business acumen and decorum I have ever seen. It is NO WONDER you are struggling. You are tactless, lady. I tell her I don't have a screenshot but am happy to pay whatever. She says 'well if you want to pay the Groupon price I can skip the blow out' WHAT? I've been sitting her uncomfortably for 3 flipping hours. I want a blow out and don't care what you want to charge you wombat... L. Shitty shampoo and subpar blowout. I pay in cash and silently grabs change out of her purse and all but shoves it to me. I left her a tip anyways, OBVI SHE NEEDS THE MONEY AS SHE LIKES TO GOUGE. If I can't see Jenn, I just tie my hair up until she can work her magic on my naturally wavy locks. She gets it right every single time. It's never a good haircut--it's always a tranformative experience. Life can grind you down so there's nothing like a truly great cut to restore your confidence and brightnen your look and outlook on life. Jenn so much more than a stylist.
