On Saturday April 8, 2018, I drove 85 miles from my home in College Station, TX to visit the Houston "Granite Granite" facility at 10410 Hempstead Rd. The employees were attentive and showed me all the samples I wanted to see. I knew they closed on Saturdays at 2 pm, so, when I realized at around 1:20 pm that I'd mistakenly locked my keys in my truck parked in their fenced yard, I sprang into action. I frantically called a locksmith, my car insurer, and the Houston police, all of whom said they could take up to 1 hour to arrive at my location. It was now close to 2 pm, at which point the manager/president, Mr. Rajiv Khanna, told me: you will leave your truck in the locked yard until Monday morning when you will return after 8 am to retrieve it. We are locking the gates at 2 pm because we (6-8 employees) have family plans for the afternoon. There is a restaurant down the road where you can wait for your husband to pick you up. I had to abandon my truck in the yard for over 36 hours, walk through an industrial neighborhood in an unfamiliar city, and ask my husband to drive the round trip to Houston twice (170 miles) all because Mr. Khanna could not wait 30-60 minutes for help to arrive. I know that Granite Granite is a wholesale operation. The management needs to discover a missing piece of the business called customer service along with simple courtesy. Warning: Customers aren't supposed to park in the gated yard directly in front of the business, though there is no sign saying so. The (unmarked) parking lot for customers is on the left side. And by all means, avoid arriving near closing time! read more
