Couldn't get an appointment in Kalamazoo to have my cataracts removed, they were scheduling four…read moremonths out. A friend told me about Grand Rapids Opthalmology (GRO). I called them and got a consultation for the following day. Dr Muallem was very professional and suggested the Light Adjustable Lenses, which corrects the near and far sightedness. He said that there was a 99.7% success rate. I had the surgery a couple of weeks later, five days apart. Three weeks later I returned to see Dr Flikkema for the adjustments, a week apart. Finally the sealing took place and now I have 20/20 vision and no glasses needed. I found out later that only the large cities have this procedure. I couldn't be more pleased. Only downside was the 50 miles one way (9 times) trips to GRO. All in all definitely worth it.

I was the last patient for more than 2 months. That meant my second eye surgery was cancelled. However, I was able to contact them if I needed to and get answers to any questions during that time. Dr. Joseph Doe had done my husband's cataract surgery and he has been very happy with the results. When the surgery center reopened, I was contacted immediately for my second cataract surgery. I am now on my third day after surgery. I have been back to be checked to make sure everything is healing properly. I am THRILLED with my 20/20 vision! Only inexpensive reading glasses required! I needed new gas permeable contact lenses, and the folks at other places couldn't get my prescription right and kept trying to get me to switch to soft lenses which I was not interested in. I was recommended Dr. Standiford by a friend because he's a contact lens specialist. He did an exam, asked me lots of questions about how I wear my lenses, and reached out to my previous optometrist from before I moved to get the brand and prescription of my last good pair of contact lenses (something the other optometrists never bothered to do). The lenses I have now are great. He's also been able to provide me with lots of advice about Lasik and its alternatives and the pros and cons given my specific case. He's never pressured me to get additional services or get new lenses when my prescription hasn't changed. I trust him, and it's great. Everyone I've interacted with in the office has been pleasant, and they were even able to accommodate a rush Rx request when I lost a contact on the streets of Barcelona. In the last couple of years, they started taking EyeMed which is a huge plus.

My husband provided the confirmation email he had received. It was then that the receptionist stated they were having issues with their online scheduling. They gave such attitude when we got in like why did I give them the wrong number... I didn't... they did that to themselves. Plus they also had dads number. We ended up getting recheck at the Grandville office and they were so kind and amazed at how bad the Holland office messed up my daughter's prescription.

She receives eye shots and the preparation eliminates any chance of pain. They calmed her fears immediately and are so gentle with her. This means so much to a daughter. They have been very informative and thoroughly answer any questions. -AND- On top of all of this, I had a flat tire in the parking lot today and Gene, a very sweet research coordinator, went out in the rain and changed my tire for me! If I could get a referral to a different doctor, I would change offices. Second reason I do not recommend this office: my appointments have been canceled last minute, and rescheduling is damn near impossible. I can never get anyone on the phone! The folks who do take calls don't work in the office and have to leave a note with the office. It took over five times for me to call and leave a message to get a returned call! Again very frustrating from the patient side. Finally, paying a bill is more difficult than it should be. You get the bill in the mail with a number to call. But guess what? The operators say the office is busy and they'll "call you back." I'm not sure what else can be done, aside from going into the office to pay my bill. I would argue that you have to go to the office to schedule and pay bills in person because the phone and email do not seem to work. Please do better, retina specialists of Michigan.
