The Grand Plaza is a pretty decent place to live all things considered. Its location is phenomenal, right next to Jewel Osco and close to Trader Joe's, and the staff is generally great. The major con might be the elevator speeds and that the complex feels a little old, but our apartment is nice and the cons are fairly minor when compared to the myriad of benefits. Happy to live here and would consider living here again when I need to be in Chicago! read more

Still great location, great amenities, and phenomenal staff. SO, why did I move after 10+ years? It started with the Leasing Director suggesting that I might like to move to one of the upgraded units. I WAS ASTOUNDED - AS WAS EVERY REAL ESTATE PERSON I KNOW - WHEN SHE TOLD ME THAT THERE WOULD BE A $435 FEE IN ADDITIONAL TO HIGHER RENT TO MOVE TO A DIFFERENT APARTMENT EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD BE A NEW LEASE-YEAR. I looked at the upgraded units (not impressed) but realized that no matter which unit I selected, there would be no escape from the constant noise and the lack of a walk-in shower. They offered to put in a walk-in shower for me for a cost of more than $12,000! They failed to realize, apparently, that this would be a capital improvement which would justify higher rent and be paid off in a relatively short period of time and keep a long-time resident. WHAT DID I GAIN? .Walk-in shower. .No constant noise from people on/in motorcycles and cars with straight pipes who like to rev their engines while they are sitting at the intersection to hear it ricochet from the surrounding buildings. (First hand info from a family member with a motorcycle.) .No frequent noise from cycles and cars playing their stereos at full-blast. .No noise from the clubs on Illinois Street. .Many fewer sirens - maybe one a day if that rather than one or more per hour. .Less expensive parking AND free guest parking .AMC theatres in the complex .Mariano's in the complex (do your shopping, then wheel your cart to your apartment to unload it.) And Jewel is 7% more expensive than Mariano's, according to Consumer Checkbook. If I want to buy a bottle of, say, prosecco, I no longer have to get an employee to open the case with their specific code and then walk me to the cashier with the bottle, as is the case at the Jewel in the building. .I get to decide whether I want air conditioning or heat. .Great views read more

The elevators in this building break down EVERY OTHER MONTH and are out of commission for TWO WEEKS at a time I live on the 54th floor and one of our elevators on our bank has been out of commission for the past two weeks and the building has NO SOLUTION and NO TIMELINE other than periodic email blasts saying "they are working with their vendor for a solution" I've been a resident in the building for a few years and unfortunately this has been an ongoing issue, NOT a one time occurrence. It causes incredible delays during rush periods so plan accordingly. My advice would be at the very least use it as a negotiating tactic when discussing rent, because this is certainly NOT a "market" building read more

As I'm coming to the end of my lease, I wanted to write a review on my time at GP. I can say hands down, this is the BEST apartment building I've lived in since I moved to Chicago. I would absolutely not be moving if it weren't for a change in my circumstances/needing to downsize. Not only do I love my unit, but whenever I've submitted a maintenance request, someone has come within hours, sometimes even MINUTES to complete the work order. They're quick, efficient, and I couldn't praise them more. The package room attendee is PHENOMENAL. I feel terrible for never asking her name, but she is so attentive, knows all of the residents and where their packages are, and is super friendly. I hope she's getting compensated well because she deserves it. The building is awesome about hosting events, such as happy hours, a casino night in the summer, and more. I wish I would have partaken in more of these during my time here. There's a great community here and everyone is super friendly and welcoming. The only gripes I've had are wishing that the dog park was a little cleaner (it's artificial turf, so waste piles up at times, and it's a bit smelly in the summer), sometimes you'll be waiting for awhile for an elevator, and if you live a floor or two above the fitness center, you can sometimes hear the basketball bouncing in the court. However, the building has taken note of all these things and have actively been trying to keep the park cleaner, and now enforce a strict closing time for the basketball court. Some of the bad reviews I've seen on this place have to be just extremely picky and particular individuals, because I have been super content here. Thank you GP for an awesome 14 months! I recently moved to the Grand Plaza - absolutely loving my experience. First and foremost Hali (the leasing manager) is absolutely wonderful and truly is here to help. The one bedroom is very spacious and reasonably priced for River North. The pool / Gym are a GREAT addition. My only issues with the apartment are the popcorn ceiling is a little dated... and be bed room is slightly slanted floors. It's right by the red line, near the bus line. The maintenance and management have been on a downward slope over the last few years. There is little to no oversight and repair and routine functions are not complete. For example, stagnant water intruding from the exterior of the building has been left to pool for 6 months in the "winter garden". The gym, steam room and sauna are consistently filthy and rarely cleaned other than the straightening of weights. The coffee machine, if functioning, is out of coffee, printer out of paper, and "club 9" has been closed due to flooding for weeks. *update: 1 Star. The public washrooms do not have working faucets for several days with maintenance oblivious despite multiple complaints. read more

BEWARE! Do not rent at Grand Plaza!  The floors in this building are severely slanted (2.5 inches+) and the leasing staff and management do not disclose this to you even though they are well aware of the problem. The slant is so drastic in my unit that things roll down the floor and hit the wall (see attached images). I noticed this unfortunate issue once the movers started moving my furniture into the unit. It is absolutely ridiculous. Even the person who installed my television said, "I can't believe people pay a premium to rent here with the floors like this." My rent is $2,730 for a one-bedroom, one bath. The management and leasing staff are not transparent and do not disclose that the floors are severely warped. Some of the leasing staff members are rude and have poor communication and business skills. One of the managers even told me that I couldn't bring my broker into the discussion regarding the severely slanted floors. Of course, I still did include him. Building staff legally cannot tell a tenant who they can or cannot talk to. They did offer to move me to another unit, but unfortunately, all the units with this floor plan have the exact same problem, and the other floor plans won't fit my furniture. I chose this building because of its location and because they were renovating the units. However, if I had known about the severity of the floors, among other things, I never would have rented at Grand Plaza. read more

Don't live here. I can't wait to get out my lease. Building takes minimal precautions for COVID, living here is risking your life on daily basis. My neighbor throws 30+ person parties weekly, and walks around the halls / elevator routinely without a mask. Despite calling the police and building management multiple times, all they do is tell him to turn down the music. So now they have quiet 30+ person which is apparently totally okay. I'm getting out of here in a few months and can't wait. The internet provider is also some shady 3rd company, and get used to randomly losing coverage from time to time. The plumbing is also janky, I've never needed / owned a plunger before, and now my toilet clogs on a weekly basis. Maintenance came and tried to clear out the pipes, but ultimately, i think the issue is just a crappy toilet. Buyer beware. read more

The filth alone should be enough to discourge renters. The front of the building is surrounded with beggars, littered with trash, human waste, and feels extremely unsafe. The front desk is either totally unmanned or covered by individuals who are unfamiliar and lacking in care and attention. Criminals have open access to the building and parking garage. There are daily robberies and assaults in River North and the security of the building is well below acceptable. The lobby is disgusting... walls are stained and damaged. It's embarrassing to bring guests to visit. Office staff either leaves early or doesn't show up at all and their lack of concern or any pride in their work whatsoever is reflected in the state the building is in. There are better managed properties with better prices that are without the embarrassment and without a total lack of safety like Grand Plaza has. read more

Loudest apartment building in River North. OK, back when I was in college, I'm pretty sure they threw up my whole apartment complex in three months, and you could hear your neighbor's phone ring through your walls. This place isn't much better. Rented a corporate housing unit on 26, and you could hear everything on the street. Before you go, "You're in the city, so expect noise or move back to the burbs," (1) I don't do burbs, and (2) I moved to a building literally two blocks from this one, same noise outside, not a peep inside. Concrete slabs between floors and bank-vault-like construction elsewhere. Additionally, the floor plan I rented here was a really strange layout. Space utilization was not ideal. The open living room area was so large, I could've performed a gymnastics floor exercise in there. However, this was at the expense of the bedroom, which was miniscule and without a real door. (Junior 1BR's, man.) There was barely space to squeeze between the queen bed and normal-size dresser, and I'm not very large. To top it off, the one bathroom was clear across that really big living room, so if you had to pee in the middle of the night, by the time you finished that hike, you were AWAKE awake. The rest of the amenities including the pool deck and running track are nice, but the units themselves? Too loud and oddly laid out. Weird. read more

We drove up 3.5 hours to see an apartment after booking an appointment online. When we arrived the leasing agent had no record of our appointment and told us that nothing was available to show us anyway. I love living here! I have no idea where these one star reviews are coming from. I moved in over a month ago and it has been amazing. The staff has been wonderful, from the very helpful leasing agents (Tara and Carly), wonderful door staff (Pierre and Chris, who remembered my name from the first day I moved in!), package pickup (Ruby, who also remembered me from the first day), and maintenance staff who fixed a low priority issue the same day I reported it. The majority of residents that I have met have been here for multiple years because they love the building and location. The common areas and workout facilities are fantastic and are very spacious (I just wish they had a firepit!). The running track and the large dog area are awesome (even though I don't have a dog, I know where to go when I went to play with one) and I'm looking forward to when they open the pool. I love that management has happy hours to help the residents meet...they are well attended and Rock Bottom supplies some tasty brew. When I'm in my apartment, I don't hear anything from my next door or upstairs neighbors, except when the next door neighbors are opening and closing their front door in the hallway. I do hear emergency vehicles sometimes, but I can't think of a single place in Chicago where you wouldn't. Having a glass door for a wall to have an amazing view is worth it to hear a siren every now and then...and at least I don't hear my neighbors. My entire apartment was recently renovated and it is gorgeous! The apartments are very well laid out and spacious. Top notch appliances, cabinets, counters, and other materials were used. And the size of the balcony I get...it's huge compared to other places I looked at for more money! I really just love living here! read more

I worked with Halli S. to secure my apartment at Grand Plaza. She was a pleasure to work with as she provided guidance, reminders, flexibility, timely responses and overall has a great attitude which is hard to find at some of these large management companies. The front door staff had my keys ready for me upon my arrival and helped me with some of the smaller items I had with me at the time. I received the wrong mail key and Dawn in the Mail room helped me sort it all our and I got new keys from maintence within the hour. The mailroom is open 24 hrs so you never have to wait to get your packages. This building has all of the amenities you would find at super luxury buildings in River North but on a much bigger scale and you can actually find a grill to use or a spot at the pool. The residents are very friendly and the vibe is not stuffy at all. My personal favorite amenity has been the dog park, it's the largest I've seen in the area, the maintenance team keeps it clean and the other pet owners are great about keeping a close eye on their dog. Amazing Moved here from Saint Louis about 3 months ago and so far its been amazing. Quick and amazing staff. The gym is amazing. HUGE DOG PARK!! Free Starbucks. Free drinks with your neighbors a few times a month! The only downside is the price, but if you can swing it you will love it. I think a lot of the negative reviews on here have nothing to do with Grand Plaza and just come with living downtown in a big building, there is a difference and future tenants should keep these things in mind. read more

I would love to give this place more than 2 stars, but unfortunately, the property manager, Jeff, and my landlord were nothing but unprofessional and incredibly complicated. I lived in this building for about 4 years, and I really did love the unit. The building has great amenities as well. My unit did need A LOT of updates as far as appliances, but that's really the only part I liked about the building, my unit and the amenities. I was never a fan of the staff. Very, very rude more than half of the time. I always felt like I was bothering everyone. I got yelled at by the mail guy at least 10 times. There are so many other amazing places just like this building that are popping up everywhere. I don't recommend it. All the drilling and plumbing issues you are reading are true. When I moved in July 2014, my apartment flooded literally the next day after moving in....... it was a nightmare. Practically all my hardwood floors had to be ripped up, and the company couldn't come in to replace them until A MONTH LATER. It was a joke. I know landlords are case by case on how great they are, but lets just say after moving out of here I had call a friend of mine thats a lawyer.... if that tells you anything :) read more

The leasing staff and doorman are pretty good. At first I told my friends that I love living here because of the convenience and great location. But the property manager does not care for tenants at ALL! There was a huge water leak from the apartment next door, in which they had to clear our dining area's carpet for 5 days and run an industrial size fan and humidifier to make sure it was dry. This made our whole living/dining room area into a complete mess for 5 days and the fans were super loud. We thought is was only fair to ask for a deduction in our rent for the inconvenience it caused us, but she said no and was not willing to work with us. The only real redeeming features about this place are: the size of the rooms and the amenities. The major downsides are: the management company (which has an attitude), the maintenance people (who are slow/non-responsive, even when there is a leak in the ceiling), and the price. My main complaints in more detail are: 1 - The cable/internet provider, AM3, is bad and expensive. You have to pay additional to get HD and for installation and for an HD box and for DVR. In total, it would have cost over $400 for installation alone. The best part? You don't get to keep the boxes when you move out. Not that I'd want them. 2 - Price of the apartments. You get what you pay for in terms of space and amenities, but, when I asked if there was a discount for continuing tenants, the response I got was that the building was only raising rent 3.5%, compared to 5% in the neighborhood, so that is a discount. That is not responsive to the question and also not a discount in any case. 3 - Management. They are lazy, rude and not helpful. One of the more ridiculous encounters I had with them was when I asked if they could prorate my rent in exchange for me moving out sooner than the end of my lease. The response I received was that such a thing was not only against their policy but illegal. Wrong. It's fine that they don't have a policy to address this, but to lie in order to make their position makes sense is unnecessary (and hilarious), especially given that I am a lawyer. 4 - Garage parking. Just try it once. I promise you won't ever go back in there. The space is too small, and the ramp is too narrow. To add insult to injury, the spots are expensive. Shocker. 5. Maintenance. They are some of the nicest people in the building, but they are not very responsive to resident requests. There are many times when I have had a service call related to clogged toilets or leaking ceilings (yes, ceilingS - it happened twice). They were very unsympathetic and acted as though I was being unreasonable for expecting that a clogged toilet would be addressed within 24 hours of my request and that a leaking ceiling would be addressed within an hour or two. All in all, not worth the price or the headache. Live somewhere else. read more

All the recent reviews are either fake, written by grand plaza employees themselves, or grand plaza is paying people to write five star reviews on yelp. The hot tub is still out of order. I was just there again the other day visiting my friend. Such a joke. It's been out of order since March 2014. They claim it has to do with not passing city health code. But why should it take 9 months (and counting) to fix something that residents pay a premium to use? These people running the building are so incompetent it makes me sick. Do yourself a favor and go check out ANY other building in the area. Do not give these people your money. They don't deserve a penny of it. This place should be shut down, or the management company should be forced out. What a joke, and you're a fool if you live there. Lastly, be sure to read the reviews of this place that are "hidden" on yelp. Bottom of this page, you have to click something to see those reviews. I EXTREMELY regret renewing my lease at Grand Plaza. The maintenance and door staff are super friendly, but the management office is a nightmare to deal with. They could care less about your concerns, and I have to repeatedly call and leave messages to get some sort of response. The pool is ALWAYS dirty, too small and needs to be upgraded, and there are never enough chairs to lay out. There is at least one Elevator that is always broken which causes long waiting times, homeless people outside the building, the staircases which i like to use as a workout always smells disgusting and extremely dirty so I stopped running the stairs which is a huge disappointment, I live directly above the gym and I am constantly being woken up to by weights being dropped below in the gym, for the sink it is either cold or extremely hot, no such thing as warm water. Bottom line, this building is old, things are always broken, management office is terrible and I DO NOT recommend the Grand Plaza to ANYONE. read more

Been living here for about a couple months. Like any apartment complex, there are a few things off here and there, but for the most part? It's been a great experience. The elevators are a bit slow, but whatever. The apartment itself is beautiful. Maintenance is always quick. QUIET. I rarely hear anyone in the halls or around my apartment. Very nice. The only real downside is the inability to choose my own cable/internet. I'm okay with DirectTV but the internet is SLOW. They said up to 50mbps. I clocked it yesterday at 2.4mbps. Varies throughout the day. That said, I'm enjoying my stay. Neighbors are friendly. The gym is great. A little pricey, but definitely worth it. read more

I am staying at the Grand Plaza for 10 weeks while working on a film in Chicago. I have a 1 bedroom apartment. It's a great size, is clean and has all the kitchen stuff you would really need (except a water pitcher). There is a washer and dryer in the room! It's upstairs from a Bed, Bath and Beyond in case you need to pick up something else. Lots of great restaurants around plus a Whole Foods, a regular grocery store and Trader Joe's. It's a fantastic location and the doormen are very friendly and helpful. Only three complaints. In the west tower the person who takes care of the packages is REALLY unpleasant. The other thing is that there is no directional signage when entering the parking spiral of the parking lot. Be very careful as it's not obvious which way to turn! The most disturbing thing for most people will be the CONSTANT ambulance and fire truck noise from the nearby station. read more

This place is a joke!! Do NOT sign a lease here!! While there is much to complain about, the biggest reason I will never recommend or consider this building is because of what happened when we moved out. A few months before we moved out, grand plaza decided to get directTV for all units. Free of charge to us for the rest of our lease, and if we resign the lease we would have to start paying for that service. Made sense to us. We moved out in June, and it is now September. Ever since we moved out, we've been harassed by directTV to pay a cancellation fee of $300. They claim since we didn't live there for 12 months after it was installed, we've opted out of their service and need to pay a cancellation fee. We never signed up for directTV, grand plaza did! We never signed a contract or anything. Now, directTV has sent a collection agency after us. Grand plaza has been saying for the last 4 months that they will fix this problem, but they haven't. There are at least 10 other tenants that are having the same problem as us. We've worked very hard to have a great credit score so that we can buy a house, but thanks to grand plaza, that has all been ruined. We've had so much stress brought into our lives from Grand Plaza, and regret ever having lived there. Even when we moved out were still dealing with issues they've inflicted on us. The pool at Grand Plaza is by far the best pool that I've been to in downtown Chicago. There is a great view of the city and there is plenty of room to lay out. They are also great about letting you bring friends to the pool and there is not a limit on how many people you can bring. The gym is also nice and I just noticed that they have a yoga class sat mornings in the basketball court. Great place to live! read more

Not only is this place the loudest apartment building in the entire 10 block area (I hear a siren noise every 30 mins working from home on the 38th floor, as well as horrific drilling, making getting ANY rest / sleeping nearly impossible), it is also situated on a street that is arguably one of the more shady blocks in all of River North. We had a shooting a few weeks ago on the Red Line train station that had the cops block off the entire building block, a murder in the building a few years ago, and lastly, a consistent array of homeless people that favor the building block / building, which makes coming home late at night unsafe. And don't get me started on how the building had a consistent stream of random Airbnb tenants that the *building* rented out, which came with their set of smoking, noise and safety complaints (one was directly next to me). At some point, there were so many people coming and going, I thought they were running a hotel. Yet, during these challenging COVID-19 times, the building refuses to lower rents, even for their current high rent paying tenants such as myself (north of $2,700/month for a one bedroom). When I asked the management to consider lowering the rent at contract re-signing time for a 3 year timely paying tenant (me), they refused. And this is after the building (rightly) closed down the gym, pool room, office room, break room and most of the amenities due to COVID-19 regulations. Still, they want to charge a premium for living in this "luxury" building. One thing that this building is good for are the maintenance and front door staff. The maintenance staff work tirelessly and endlessly to keep the building clean, and stay very busy with what seem like an endless array of plumbing and elevator issues. The front door staff (shout out to Chris and Pierre) are generally attentive, and were very quick to respond to an out of control party on my floor two weeks ago by threatening to call the cops, as the tenants weren't responsive to the first three times they were asked to quiet down. So, if you think about paying a lot of money for this "luxury" building in a "great" location area, think again. read more

Being here a couple of months, I've been extremely pleased calling this place home! First off, the location can't be beat. It's right by the red line and now that it's frigid outside, this is a bonus. Also, there's a Jewel Osco on the ground floor which is convenient. Also, the upgrades in the hallways and in our unit is really great. It seems like they've been putting attention to detail with keeping it modernized. The service team and staff are always attentive too to any repairs I need and respond quickly. My only harp is the elevators get really backlogged and just causes a jam of people in the lobby during busy hours. Cause of this it's not always the quickest trip up and down. But hey, it's a tall residence tower and as long as no one farts in the elevator I can't complain. read more

BEWARE!! Don't rent this penthouse! The penthouse 5301 was a awful experience! I could not believe how we were treated by the owners James & Jeri Lou. These people are racist and hatful!! Once we rented they did everything in their power to keep our deposit! They harassed us the entire stay calling us saying they got a weird call from someone saying it's a noise complaint at 9:45pm. He was just making it up to call my cell phone to see if he heard any noise and we were getting ready for bed! He also call a day later pretending that we lost one of the door keys. He stated this is a huge security violation and I'm going to lose my deposit! Thankfully we were able to stop the madness. The entire stay was full of unrealistic rules and a Manuel to read on instructions! The place was nice but NOT worth it in the end. Such a stressful weekend dealing with these hatful people! Living at the Grand Plaza is very convenient if you work downtown. It's right in the middle of everything and you can walk basically anywhere. It's also right at the Grand Red Line stop which is super convenient for getting around the city. Also, amazingly enough, street parking isn't too horrible. The building has amazing amenities. They have a great gym, a half court basketball court, a library, a party room, an awesome outdoor pool, a mini track, putting greens, and dry cleaners on the premises. It's also directly on top of a grocery store and a Bed Bath and Beyond (it really doesn't get much more convenient than that). The staff have also been very quick to respond to any request that I have. The apartments are great. Very spacious. Walk in closets. Large windows. New appliances. Washer/dryer in unit. Generally, I found the Grand Plaza apartments to be much bigger than other high rise buildings in the area. While living here is mostly good, there are a few cons: -Door staff aren't very attentive or helpful. They're supposed to be like concierges, but don't even open the door for you. Other buildings in the area have MUCH better staff. -Parking isn't included and it's a public garage. You have to fight to get a space on Saturdays when everyone comes downtown to go to dinner/party). -Homeless people are frequently outside of the grocery store. -It's expensive! But you do get a lot for your money. read more

This place is AMAZING! I really wish I didn't have to move out but I'm relocating to another state. The maintenance staff and front door concierge is extremely helpful. If they see you hold packages with both hands while you're walking in they will go out of their way to open the door with the key fob so that you don't have to stop, put down the packages and shuffle to find your keys. The Apartment itself ( I'm in a 825 sq ft one bedroom) is very big. I love the walk in closet, my king size bed with two night stands fit perfectly with room to even put in a massage chair. The appliances are all new looking and they're GE. My entrance has a wooded floor entry which I hear not all units have so I guess I was lucky to get it. The views of the city from the balcony is impressive, especially when you bring your friends/family over. You have plenty of room for a grill with a table and chairs. They even have a granite island in the kitchen that has two drawers and two lower cabinets. Plenty of top cabinet space in the kitchen. I counted 11. The area around the building is so GREAT. Everyone looks like a rock star that comes in and out of this building, especially on Friday and Saturday nights ;-) The building is also very family oriented with several young and old families with children hanging about. The minute another opportunity opens up to come back to Chicago, I'll definitely be back at Grand Plaza. Just so you all know that I haven't drank all the koo-aid, here some constructive criticisms about Grand Plaza. 1 - The cable/internet provider they have called AM3, SUCKS. The worst company ever. Look up their reviews on YELP. Grand Plaza really needs to get rid of them, its' totally cramming their style 2 - The price of these apartments are really really expensive but hey that's Chicago River North living, whatdu gonna do... 3 - Some, not all of the Leasing Staff is a bit, how do i say this without hurting anyones feelings, hmmm, stuck up, (sorry) but I guess with a place like this you're bound to run into 1 or 2 of those folks. My best guess is that some of the tenants here annoy them so much that its hard to keep a smile on their faces.. 4 - The computers in the business center really need to get updated. Hey GP maybe you could get some MACs :) 5 - Garage parking stinks, too expensive but I have never had a problem getting street parking, and its safe, just make sure you remove your car by 6a or 7a, the local traffic authority are ruthless when it comes to issuing tickets. ALL in ALL - this is a great place to LIVE even if its just a short time, the neighborhood alone will make it hard for you to leave. Jewel, Bars, Restaurants, Subway (transportation not the restaurant) are literally across the st. Oh and best of all when it snows, it doesn't' feel like its winter like you get in the burbs, the streets are all clean and GP does a great job keeping their area clear of debris and snow. FYI: Tip the door staff during the holidays they deserve it. Say hello to the maintenance staff and the leasing agents, they work really hard and they are the glue that keep this place running smooth. read more

I came to Chicago in the deep dark winter and was desperate to find a home! Never having been here, I went for the first good-looking building in my work-neighborhood...and fell in love! I just extended my lease again: The building appears new and well-kept, the amenities are first class, from a large outside pool and a magnificient gym (with complimentary yoga classes!!) to en-suite Washer/Dryer and spacious balconies. Home Sweet Home! I am recommending GP to every newbie in town and to anyone who wants to live in a safe, clean and luxurious environment. The staff is tremendously helpful - from the lady who "signed my up", over the door(wo)men and the dude who exchanges the batteries in my fire alarm! Well done, Grand Plaza!!! read more

We had some friends stay here while we were in Chicago for a wedding. The price was about the same, if not a tad less than most of the hotels in the city. They were on the 28 floor and had a beautiful view of the city, as well, from their large balcony. This apartment was one bedroom/bathroom with a living room and full kitchen. They were also close to a Whole Foods , making it convenient to fill their fridge fast. Overall...if we decide to stay in Chicago longer for our next trip...we might stay here over a hotel. read more

This is the best apartment I've lived in while in Chicago! The management office and door staff are full of people who are willing to help with anything you need. The amenities include a huge gym, basketball court, saunas, outdoor track, pool, and dog run. Huge props to Carly in the management office for always responding to emails in a timely manner. Whenever you pass her in the building, she always smiles and takes time to say hi and chat. read more

They have great amenities such as a health club, swimming pool, 24 hour door staff, parking and they've got the Jewel right underneath! Its centrally located and a great place to live! Best high-rise in River North! I have lived here for just less than a month now, and I already want to spend the next 10 years here! Heck, maybe I'll retire here. The #1 thing you get with Grand Plaza is CONVENIENCE. I've been shopping at the Jewel-Osco on the ground floor for years, but living over this grocery store is heaven. I never worry about running out of anything, or throwing food out. I buy fresh meats and produce daily. Living over a Bed, Bath, & Beyond doesn't suck either. You are steps from about every key hot spot River North has to offer. Transportation is never a problem, with the Red Line / Grand Bus steps from your door; or you can easily access a Zip Car right in the parking garage. The Staff have been super nice and accommodating. They really have nice hospitality touch that makes me feel like a welcome resident, and not just a number. My apartment was completely gutted before I moved in, and updated in gorgeous new fixtures. I even have brand new, front-loading, full-size washer and dryer in my unit. The balconies are HUGE. It is tough to find a high-rise in RN with private balconies.... I know because I searched and searched. Have I mentioned the amenities yet? The gym is full of brand new equipment, and looks to be very clean and well-managed, and it is open 24 hours! Men and women have their own private sauna, shower, and steam rooms. There is an outdoor running track! I've never seen a high-rise with that feature! The rooftop area was recently renovated with outdoor kitchens and cabanas. I can't wait to use that area!! My second day in the building, there was a hosted party with complementary beer and margaritas. That gave me a good opportunity to scope out the other residents. I was happy to see a diverse crowd of 20-somethings all the way to 70-somethings, and everything in between. I think anybody could "belong" here; provided they can pay the hefty rents. read more

This building is a nightmare - there was an attempted break in on our apartment; our bicycles were stolen from the storage area; there are homeless people constantly panhandling at the main entrance; the elevators frequently are out of service; and,the building's grounds are filthy. What's most disappointing is that the building's management could care less. The only bright spot was the morning doorman - a true gentleman. Avoid living here at all costs. read more

We moved out, but it was a nightmare, severely stressful. I took a job in a new city/state 5-months into our 3rd lease renewal. Inquired about early cancellation and sublease policy. Essentially it would cost us over $8000 to end the lease early even if they found a new tenant immediately. Tried to sublease, which was nearly impossible in Nov/Dec, but put it on the market with an agent. The building was offering units severely discounted for Nov move-in so we had to list below market, not good but I'd rather take a smaller $2-4k hit, so I can deal, but then came the kicker.... Our agent called us one day (we already moved out of state) to say he showed the apartment but it was in terrible condition. I thought, not possible, we had it professionally cleaned, including the carpets steam cleaned. So I started calling, emailing, calling, emailing and more of that with no response from the management office for 2 weeks. Turns out they started using OUR unit for maintenance storage even though we were still paying rent and signed a form that we would sublease. At this point I lost it and had enough, the lame apologies, lack of explanation, and their offer for a small rent credit was not enough, I wanted OUT! Finally, they agreed to let us end our lease and refund us back to the point when they took it over so they owe us a months rent, which 2.5 months later has yet to be seen. Thankfully for my sanity I'm done with these people, almost, I still want my money back! read more
