Grand Panda is back after its renovation. Gone is the 80s Don Johnson look. In its place is a sleek new brown palatte interior. They added some rock work and a fountain in the entry hall and colored pendant and track lights throughout the place. Neither the food quality nor the prices suffered from this renovation. All the old staff seems to be back, and its business as usually only in a more upscale interior. They have the best pan-fried dumplings around and my favorite chinese food in the area. read more

Usually like this place. Had take out last night and dumplings were all one glutinous ball and the sesame chicken was very thing strips of chicken dipped many times in batter and so friend I could not chew them. I gave one to my dog and they were too tough for her too. So sad. read more

Disappointing meal this evening. The "fried rice" was brown, no egg or veggies at all, the barbeque pork and snow peas had no bbq taste at all, and server never once checked on us. Lastly, when we were through they said they would pack extras for us and split in half, since it was the two person family meal, and they put only shrimp in for one person and other leftover got the pork leftovers. read more

My 3-star rating is based on my visit on Nov 15, 2018 only and doesn't reflect the many years my family has dined at this location. Service: Friendly and efficient as always, this restaurant makes everyone who comes in feel like a "regular". They are always engaging and happy to tell you more about their dishes if you have questions. Cleanliness: Great atmosphere, and it's spotless as always. Food: We have always enjoyed well seasoned, full-flavor dishes at Grand Panda Newhall. You never felt like it needed a little more or less anything. This visit, the items we ordered were surprisingly bland. Nothing tasted bad.. it was just.. bland. We ordered Kung Pao 3-way combo, Mongolian Beef and the steamed broccoli with black mushrooms and oyster sauce. The meats and veggies were all good quality. No complaints there. It just tasted like everything was in a plain soy based sauce without garlic, pepper or other seasonings. Even the oyster sauce lacked the slight sweetness and other nuances you would typically expect. They were going to close within an hour, so we didn't want to send back to have them zhush it up. For years, we would go with groups of 8-10+ and were always thrilled with the food. My Uncle from Griffith Park held this restaurant up to his favorite places in Chinatown! We have asked over the past few years if owners or chef have changed, but were told it's been the same family member for years. We first noticed the differences starting when our favorite waiter, a highly energetic guy named Tai, left. A server shouldn't change the flavor of food unless he was special ordering everything for us. I'll give them another shot in case it was an off night, but not with a large group.. just in case. I'll mention this experience and ask if they can make things "the old way". ..re: other Yelpers who don't feel like the value was good, I will contest. The quality of the ingredients as stated is excellent, and the portions are very large. Of you have 4 people and you're ordering family style, don't order 4 entrees unless you want a lot of leftovers. Can't fault them for being "chintzy" at all. read more

I typically don't really write reviews but I'm pretty disappointed in the food that we received here from takeout yesterday. I've been coming to Grand Panda for many years but haven't been there recently until I ordered takeout last night. 5 stars for portion sizes, absolutely filled to the top with food which is always great to see. 1 or 2 stars for the food quality. Multiple pieces of chicken in my noodles were so chewy I had to spit them out. Also all of the dishes lacked flavor significantly? Not sure how that happens but this was no different than the Chinese food I would get from the middle school cafeteria. Hoping to see some improvement here! read more

My wife and I went here for lunch today. We have been here multiple times before, but not for a while. I was surprised to find that the lunch "Special" is now between $9.25 and $11.25. I fully realize that restaurants need to raise their prices from time to time, but I think that they've raised them a little more than other places. Wow wow wow. Ok so I don't usually post but reviews on restaurants but I just had the best shrimp fried rice and the beef with pepper on sizzling pan I cannot recommend this place enough after driving around for 30 minutes up and down the street trying to decide from the 3 Chinese food joints in the area I finally just parked went in and ordered. You will not be disappointed the place is clean restroom are clean and staff is friendly and inviting. The portions are huge I can't stress this enough. Give it a shot and I guarantee you will enjoy it I did!!! read more

This is my second time coming here and this time I ordered a shrimp fried rice and orange peel chicken. The next time I will ask for them to omit the orange peel as It didn't appeal to my palate. I felt the price was a little steep for shrimp fried rice and orange chicken ($30.00) but I will patronize this establishment again. read more

It was a Saturday afternoon and we were hungry. We use to eat here when we lived in Valencia and it was alway delicious. Today we stopped because we were in town visiting my mother. We pulled up and realized that we had our dog with us. We saw a table out side and thought we could eat outside. We went in and explained that we had our dog and would like to eat outside. They said sure and then three lady's jumped into action and cleaned off the table and chairs with cleaner and towels. We sat, we ate and we enjoyed. The steamed dumplings were tender and tasty. Wonton soup was next with the hot temperature and freshness of flavors. Kung pao chicken was set down with perfection of a bowl of rice. We were in heaven. The service was GREAT! And food was very good. Our waiter was hilarious! My boyfriend and I had combination A: $14.50 per person. We had wanton soup, and it came with two egg rolls and two wrapped chicken, and we chose fried rice and our choice of entrees which were beef and broccoli, and BBQ'd with peas. And it was a cold night, so we had hot tea. +++ Overall.. It totaled at about 39 and change. (not including tip, which he really deserved for the great service). The portions of food were good... We visited this restaurant tonight ... not our first time here so this review is based on this experience. It appears that there are new people running it. Everything about this was a disappointment. We ordered crab wontons as an appetizer and there was no crab in there.... only cream cheese. We also ordered pan fried noodles which was supposed to be on a sizzling cast iron skillet, but the skillet was not even hot, so no sizzle. In fact, the dish was cold and lacked flavor. Very disappointing, especially since this has been my favorite item on their menu. So I'm very familiar with how it has been prepared. We also ordered General Tso chicken, it arrived luke warm and so did the green beans, another favorite that I've ordered many times. There was no manager present to check on customer satisfaction ... no one checked on us to see if we were ok. I've been coming here for 25 years! This last time on Christmas for dinner with my family we got a booth in the back corner with several other families. Dinner was great until the end. I got the bill and filled it out...I put $12.00 on the tip and was going to leave $25.00 in cash. Before I could put the cash down the waitress grabbed the check and ran off. She then came back and in front of everyone asked me if my $12.00 tip was correct. I had never been more embarrassed in my life! She made a fuss about it in front of my family and 10 other strangers! Everyone was staring at me! With my cash it was over 30% of what the bill came to, but because the greedy waitress made a huge stink about it I just got up and left. I've never had this halo to me before!!! EVER!!! She rushed us so much she didn't even give me a chance to give her cash! If the owners see this she should be fired!!! And if I see that she charged me more for a tip after I left I will definitely file fraud charges on the restaurant! I want a manger or owner to get back to me ASAP! read more

Terrible terrible terrible service!!! I cannot believe how they treated us. They charged us for an extra dish that we didn't receive. We even told them about it and they gave us an attitude about it. They even went to the extent of counting the money in front of us just to make sure we paid for the dish we never received. It was embarrassing. You don't treat people that way, period! Moreover, the quality of food has gone down and the portion size is much smaller. It's sad because we loved that place and the experience was never this bad. I have had a baby shower there, girls night, date night, family gatherings, New Year's Eve dinner outings here. I don't think we will be returning. read more

My family has been going to grand panda for quite a number of years. Over the past 5-6, we have only been ordering take out. The food itself is good...not a 5 Star restaurant good, but it's good. The employees are always friendly and that's wonderful. My qualm with this establishment and ESPECIALLY the take out is that EVERY SINGLE TIME we order take out, they ALWAYS leave something out. Not once in the past 5-6 years have we received a full and complete order. I suppose we should start asking them to pack our order right in front of us to see exactly what they are putting in and so conveniently leaving out. If you LOVE getting home and realizing that yet again, an ordered item is missing from your dinner, you will thoroughly enjoy this place. My experience is only with ordering online or on phone and picking up my orders, not sit down service. First of all, I am always impressed IF/when the folks taking my orders anywhere are polite and friendly. I say, IF, because that doesn't t seem to be the norm these days at all restaurants. However, whenever I order from GP, the gal that is always there( I'm guessing owner) is always friendly, polite, and asks if I need anything else. The food is always delicious, plentiful, and packed nicely. I believe for the portion size the prices are perfect. When I go in to pick up my order, the restaurant is always clean. I do want to add that if you use their online ordering system, make sure when you get the text confirmation, you use the number they send to you to plug back in to your order( or your order won't go through- I made that mistake!) I'm glad this restaurant was able to remain open despite all the pandemic problems!!! read more

Tried this place for the first time and was so happy we did. Lots of parking, very clean pretty interiorwith verrrry friendly servers and workers. The food is a little bit on the expensive side but they give you larger portions, and most importantly they're delicious and are made with quality ingredients. Shockingly bad... even by very low Santa Clarita standards. Haven't visited Grand Panda in a long time (10 years maybe), but as it is the closest "good" Chinese restaurant on this side of town thought I'd give another try. Saturday night about 8 pm... place had a fair amount of diners, one of which I heard say to staff on the way out "Great dinner as always!". Perhaps different dishes were ordered, perhaps some sort of luck was involved, or most likey (since this is the SCV) this person has no clue what good Chinese food can and should be. Now I'm certainly not expecting historically great Chinese food like The Mandarin or the original Hunan restaurants (both in San Francisco) or even SoCal places like Yang Chow or (especially) Chengdu Taste, but Grand Panda served me among the worst "Chinese" dishes I've ever had. In all seriousness Panda Express is better for what they serve. Pre-cooked sickly looking bland Pan Fried Dumplings (pot stickers), and Three Treasure Sizzling Rice soup (with what really seemed like canned chicken broth), Volcano Shrimp (perhaps an homage to Yang Chow Slippery Shrimp) with an unexpected and ridiculous tableside flambe (the tastiest dish of the evening but still not very good), and something named like Pan Fried Noodle on Sizzling Plate (beef, chicken, shrimp, scallops, and veg), again a ridiculous tableside production of putting the fried noodle cake onto a cheap thin (not cast iron) heated metal plate, and literally pouring a stir fry dish on top of the noodles. Very little sizzling was observed. This was the most amazingly bland Chinese dish ever. Now for something that was even more stomach turning, the waitress took the pieces of food (shrimp, beef, whatever) which missed landing on the "sizzling plate" AND PUT THEM BACK INTO THE DISH from the big serving tray of unknown cleanliness setup tableside. I am not easily disgusted at all but they managed to do so. The last indignity was that because Grand Pando is using some fly-by-night credit card processing setup, they returned to the table and asked for my bank card PIN. Needless to say it was not revealed to them. Unbelieveble. Zero stars from someone who knows what he is talking about, Now in regards Yelp promoting some reviews and downgrading others, I do not use Yelp on mobile (so they can't spy on me) and since they have no GPS data showing I visited Grand Panda, Boom! my review is downgraded. Don't fall for that stuff. One more thing. Though this is being posted on April Fool's day this is no joke. read more
