Now, you can get the tasty menu that made Shanghai Inn great along with the AYCE buffet of Grand King--all in a dining space that got huge! It's a massive upgrade all the way around. Buffet still has the tasty favorites you remember, along with expanded Mongolian grill and sushi offerings. Service was friendly and attentive. Full bar available. First time here for me, although I have been told it was recently closed for remodeling. Looks very nice inside and the selections are many. They will cook something up for you if you pick out the ingredients and hand them the plate or help yourself to the salad bar, the seafood bar, the everything else bar. There's dessert and ice cream Very easy to overeat here. Server was very friendly There was plenty of seating too, no waiting for a table and you get a plate and way you go to the trough! Watch out, parents! Their staff records your children without your consent. I had the unfortunate experience of my waitress taking a video of my 8 month old baby on her personal cell phone without asking me or my husband consent. She did not delete it in front of me after asking her to as well. It took my husband bringing it to attention to the staff up front, and she deleted it in front of him. We did not however receive any compensation for that horrible experience, and still had to pay full price for our meals. Do better! read more

The food is great. The satay chicken is delicious and gingery. The general tso chicken isn't just sweet and spicy but has good flavor. The only really I wouldn't rate it five stars for a Chinese restaurant is that we've ordered twice and both times our order was missing something or had the wrong item. Our first was missing rice to go with our chicken. The second time we ordered vegetable lo mein and received vegetable fried rice. The food is gone, but it's crazy that I can't even rely on counting items but have to open them all up before leaving. read more

Honestly, the service here is a joke. I decided to take my mom out for lunch today and when the woman brought over the check, she was hovering over my shoulder, waiting for me to sign it as she was speaking whatever language she speaks to her coworker. I decided not to leave a tip because I was paying with card and I was planning to leave a cash tip. But As soon as she saw that I put zero tip on the receipt she started laughing and talking with her coworker in their language and being very disrespectful. Which upset me and made me not leave her a tip at all and I made sure to ask her what was funny? It's crazy that you're so entitled and receiving a tip when you treat people like that and when it's a self serve restaurant. I will no longer be coming here. Dude. I've never been so grossed out. This restaurant was just not clean. I feel like the buffet itself was not kept to temperature. The rice was old and dry. The Mongolian Beef tastes rotten. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was green on the inside and I spit it out. This was a one and done for me. I have had bariatric surgery so I can't eat a whole lot when I do go out to eat these days. Trying this place again just will not be worth the possibility of it being good. There are better spots out there for Chinese. I'm sure of it! read more

The only reason that I used to go to this filthy place was because it's the only place around that had boneless red spareribs. The last time that I went was a few months ago, and they did not have boneless ribs any longer on their buffet. I walked out because nothing else appealed to me at all. Decent prices for adults and a great deal for kids. Limited vegetarian options in the buffet. One type of veg sushi (avocado, cucmber carrot), veg spring rolls, veg lomien, and garlic string beans. The items were good, though, especially the string beans. The food was warm but slightly on the cooler side for my tastes. On a major plus, my picky child ate a full meal from the american options. I recently visited Grand King Buffet in Holland, Michigan, while travelling for business; I had not dined there previously. The interior décor is somewhat dark and monotonous; I really did not give it much thought. After all, I didn't come there for decoration: I came there for food. And it was excellent. I must tell you: this is an extremely good buffet. The food is hot, beautifully arranged, and incredibly delicious. I enjoyed every plateful...and I cleaned my plate, more than once. And then, I tried the desserts. Now. Let's talk about desserts...in a Chinese buffet. One doesn't expect...very much. However...! The apple crisp was EXCELLENT. Holy cow, Batman! It really was amazing! Hot and flaky crust, with firm, tasty apples. Oh, boy! Oh, boy! I even had a bit of chocolate ice cream, and it was very, very good. Now. The service. Sigh. And, this is the reason for only three stars. The service, really...is...well, it's not very happy. The waitresses don't really interact very much; they walk around and seem to glare at the customers. They don't say hello, or welcome, or make pleasantries; they fill your water-glass, and that's about it. The cashier was even worse. Sigh. No greeting, no followup, no...anything. She literally. Did. I'm surprised this place is still open. My friend and I arrived around 2:30pm to find around 3 other customers there. It was very eerie inside, dim lighting and no music playing. I've post the photo (which appears to have been removed) of their cooks, wearing maroon shirts with their aprons on, inside the garbage dumpster out back, with Waverley Ave clearly in the back ground. There are no other restaurants in that sort of "strip mall" that would use that dumpster, it is unmistakeable. I used to eat here often when it first opened before I moved north a bit, and I would say at that time it was the best buffet in Holland. Just be warned, this is a point of severe concern. I knew this place wasn't going to be good, but I was starving and was in the area, so why not. $11 for the dinner buffet. For vegetarians and vegans, there isn't much. The hot food spread is truly horrific, with oily deep fried crap, unfresh meat stirfries, and a few veggie items to pick from. This place would be a 1-star place if not for the Mongollie BBQ-style grill area where you can curate your own stirfry, which was pretty decent: lots of vegetables, noodles, and sauces to choose from, and they cook it up fresh in a wok; nice. Definitely not recommended, but if you're in the area and you're desperate, I guess you could do worse (not much though). read more

What caught my interest was the baked salmon. It was delicious! Ok, they use to be the place to go but no longer. If you sit in a booth the walls next to you are covered in years old crud, They allow children 12 and under at the buffet islands to touch the food. the bathrooms are cleaned maybe once a day. The stir fry is a crapshoot. you can make a plate but who knows when the employee at that station will show up to cook it. The carpet floor is black with filth. Finally...Kuge can REVIEW...Grand King Buffet. It's shame that whenever Kuge visits Michigan, and more specifically, Holland, that their aren't many other yelpers who review places. Luckily, your savior has arrived in the form of a 25 year old man whose race is pretty ambiguous. Kuge is strictly speaking from the heart when he says that even after moving to Las Vegas, Grand King Buffet is hands down THE BEST All You Can Eat (AYCE) Chinese buffet that he's ever been to. They have a superb Chinese cuisine menu that covers all of The Great One's favorite foods. They have a pretty decent (smallish) amount of American food as well a tacos, fajitas, salads, sushi, etc. Most other AYCE places that The People's Champ has been to always look like a warzone, some food is luke warm, service is meh. With Grand King it is spacious, the staff is always friendly, everything is always fresh and hot (which still amazed Kuge on how that is even possible). Kuge loves just about everything they have available to eat, and on top of that they have FREE ICE CREAM! Many other AYCE places have poorer selections, warm food (not hot) and do cost 2x+ the price of Grand King. Kuge honestly doesn't know how they pull it off with such great execution. Normally with the quality of food (above average, not the best but still good Chinese) by itself this would be 4 rock bottoms out of 5. But with the value, experience, feel, selection, and comparatively with other AYCE's, or other Chinese food establishments in General in Holland and probably the greater West Michigan Area. Large buffet with a lot to choose from. Decent quality meat. They also have Sushi and an hibachi grill. It was packed. Price was very reasonable. For lunch with drink was $9.01. The only annoying think was that they cleared my drink when I went up for dessert. You will find Chinese dishes as well as American dishes here. There is also a soft serve machine. read more

All You can Eat Buffet, mainly Chinese, with smatterings of other Asian and American cuisine. You can eat everything from Sushi to General Tso Chicken, Cinnamon rolls, and even Cottage Cheese. It's a fun place, and strangely enough probably some of the best Chinese food I've had in Holland. It's kinda far from downtown, so unfortunately it probably doesn't make it onto many peoples' radars. It was nice hearing Faye Wong playing. Worth it - everything is fresh and if you leave hungry you are the most god-awful picky person ever. Service was fine, dirty plates got picked up. Nothing special but if you asked for something, you got it. From some of the other reviews? There needs to be some clarification here. Just because they SAY they are open until 10? Doesn't mean they really are. This is Michigan, and most of the people are of dutch descent. I'm of dutch descent, and I will tell you......nobody goes out to eat after 8pm in towns like this unless you are drunk or someone you love is in the hospital and you are waiting for death or an update.
