Dentistry in the time of COVID... I have been a patient of Grand Dentistry for a couple of years now. Of course, my routine checkup and cleaning were scheduled during the height of the pandemic, when everything was shut down. Even though the office was undoubtedly operating on a skeleton crew, I was able to easily reschedule by phone. When I made the call, I opted for a June appointment, figuring that things would be *mostly* reopened by then. Well, the appointed day (today) rolled around, and I ventured to my appointment (Note: the office recently moved to a new location, just a few blocks away from its old office on Grand). Although I was nervous about going in for what is arguably an elective procedure, I am so glad that I did. The new procedures require that one not wait around in the waiting area, so I can't really say that much about that portion of the practice. The new rooms appear more private/set apart and I noticed the receptionist wiping items down constantly, as well as the hygienist taking extra precautions. Most importantly is the professionalism of the staff and Dr. Patel in making sure that I felt comfortable and at ease. Going to the dentist can be nerve-wracking, and this uncertain time can amplify the sensation. I am glad that I didn't put off this routine appointment any longer, as my teeth now feel squeaky clean after 3 months of quarantine/stay at home orders. read more

One of the worst experiences and unprofessional staff! The woman at the front desk is rude and the dental work I received was poor. I went to another dentist for another consultation and found out the work this office did was done poorly and that's why I was having issues. I asked the dentist at Grand dentistry about fixing it seeing as though he had recently done the work and had recently charged my insurance and therefore I wasn't eligible for a year to have a second dentist fix his work. He seemed to take offense to the fact that I had called my insurance to inquire about my benefits for the year, immediately getting defensive and became rude and basically told me to go to another dentist after they had charged my insurance!! Patients have every right to discuss questions or concerns about coverage maximums with their insurance providers. I asked for a reversal of the charges to my insurance company but by the time it was resolved, it was months later past the end of the benefit year and I lost the benefits. Have been coming here for almost two years now and I like this "no frills" dental office. Appointments have always been on time for me and the cleanings are done well. I first found this dental office because I was looking for a second opinion on a proposed treatment plan for dental work. The dentist was able to provide a professional recommendation and I felt confident after my consult that this was the office I wanted to continue to be a patient at. Wow! What an amazing dentist experience! Thank you Dr. Chen and staff! I hadn't been to a dentist in years so I decided to go for a check up. I found this place through their advertisement on yelp and they're amazing reviews. I use delta dental insurance through my employer. I went to the loop location on Madison. The office itself is beautiful. White walls with photos of animals on them. Stocked fridge with la crouix water coffee - the works. The gentleman at the front desk was cheerful and even complimented my bomber jacket! The dental hygienist (who's name escapes me but she was great) took some x-rays of my teeth and made me feel comfortable (I was a bit nervous). Dr. Chen entered the room with great energy and introduced herself. She asked what brought me in and I told her I just wanted to make sure everything looked good. She was extremely gentle and thorough. She gracefully explained everything was doing and why. It was great to learn the "why" behind the "what". She showed me pictures of my teeth and explained that I don't need my wisdom teeth out and that I may never need them out (howdayyyy). She answered all my questions and was an absolute joy to work with. On the way out I ever got a free electric toothbrush!! Winning! All in all it was an amazing reintroduction to my dental hygiene. I was told I had a cavity that I did not have. After taking an xray, dr. mclean told me I had a cavity, so I made an appointment for a filling. I was surprised though because I was not feeling any pain in that tooth, and when I looked at the tooth myself at home, I did not see what he showed me on the screen which was something black on my tooth (now that I look back, what he saw was a black piece of food on my tooth, not a cavity). Later when I went to the appointment, he said "woah, what the" or some remark that made me think I did not have a cavity, and he paused for a moment. Instead of stopping to clarify or recheck xrays, he still operated on my tooth and filled a cavity that did not exist. Like I stated, I never felt any pain in that tooth, and I was skeptical the entire time. I got the xray he took and brought it to a different dentist (unfortunately after getting the filling) who confirmed that there was no cavity in that tooth. What I've learned from this is to always get a second opinion and let the dentist know when you have doubts. I won't return to this dentist. read more

I went to Grand Denistry in 2016 for a crown; when they billed my insurance they put wrong tooth. I moved and went to my new Dentist in Denver and in I2021 I got a crown they billed insurance but was denied because Grand billed for wrong tooth, I contact Grand and they relized there mistake and told insurance but was denied. So I paid my dentist in Denver hoping Grand would reimburse me the 1000:00 for the crown I paid but all they gave was 450.00 to me for there mistake, very unprofessional and will never recommend. read more

It was very easy to schedule an appointment, the staff take precautions to prevent covid-19 transmission, (super clean exam rooms, spacious waiting room, masks and face shields, etc.), and everyone from the receptionist staff, to the dental hygienist, to the doctor, was so friendly! I had not visited the dentist in a long time and had a lot of questions about Invisalign, cavity fillings, routine cleanings, toothpaste, and everything else under the sun and Dr. Chen was so patient. I never felt rushed or nervous. They even have televisions on the ceiling for you to distract yourself with while they work. Will be scheduling my third visit in January. read more

Best dental experience ever. I had a tooth abscess and was quite uncomfortable in addition to having a lot of anxiety when visiting the dentist. I went to the location in River North as it's by my office. Everyone was amazing -- they made me feel calm and understood my nerves. Dr Eric was great -- he took special care in prescribing meds for my abscess and then when I returned for the tooth extraction -- was in the best of hands. Very little discomfort with the procedure and healing went great, I would highly recommend Grand Dentistry -- definitely five stars. read more

For the last 3 and a half weeks a crown came out, a molar, it was not damaged. I tried several attempts to attach it with temporary dental cement. It was either too high or immediately came off. I also had a bottom front tooth filling fall out. I was afraid to chew! Given that we are in the middle of a pandemic, I was reluctant to call and make an appointment. I finally called, asking them to put me on their list when they reopened. I was seen in the same week. The Grand Ave is closed but the Madison St. Remains open. The only negative, is parking! Both dentists were available; they quickly and efficiently recemented the crown and bonded the tooth. They were polite, professional and the facility is state of the art. I couldn't be more pleased. I needed to find a dentist in Chicago and found this place on google/yelp. I decided to give it a try based on their reviews. I had a great experience! The staff here is so nice- they make you feel very comfortable and tell you exactly what they are doing when you are getting cleaned or having a procedure. I had one of my fillings fall out (from a past dentist) and they could see me the same day to fix it. They did it within an hour and made sure I was back to work on time. Dr. McLean is very friendly and intelligent. Going to a new dentist I am always worried about getting scammed but he was awesome- my first visit he said I looked great and they booked me for my next check up (making sure I wasn't scheduled until it was going to be covered by my insurance). I, like most people, strongly dislike going to the dentist. I was overly anxious about this particular trip as I expected I'd have to have some work done on the only filling I have. I was wrong!! I worried for nothin'! I'm afraid I don't know her name but the hygienist who cleaned my teeth did a very good job. I'm always waiting for them to slip with the pointy instruments, make my gums bleed, then tell me it's my fault. It never happened here! The flossing didn't even hurt! Honestly, it was a nice change from most of the dentists I've been to in the past. Now about the actual dentist part of the dentist visit. I had a chipped tooth or filling that I was worried was going to mean novocaine shots to fix. He took a look at everything and said he could just take the sharp edge off and it would be fine. Yay!! So that's what he did and I'm good as new. Well, my teeth are anyway. It took about 5 minutes in the same visit and was totally painless. Hands down the best dentist in the city. Dr. McLean is now my go-to dentist and I very much hope he keeps practicing downtown. He is very thorough, answers all questions in detail, I really appreciate his conservative approach and excellent "chair side" (?) manner. He is never in a rush although I never spent too much time in their office. Overall operations are very efficient. i recently came to Grand Dentistry for teeth cleaning and whitening. I have been seeing Dr. Patel for several years now, and was delighted to see the new space. My hygienist Julie was excellent and I have received several compliments on my teeth. The new office is clean, modern, and very welcoming with a wide selection of refreshments when you first arrive. The location is right in the heart of river north which is convenient for anyone coming from the loop or northside. The entrance is directly off the street which is also a nice change of pace from most offices that require entering a larger highrise and waiting for an elevator, dealing with security guards, etc. If you are looking for an fantastic dental experience this is the place. read more

Will not be returning. They don't care about people's health and well-being, just making money. I called to reschedule my appointment because I woke up feeling ill and with the Coronavirus running rampant I wanted to take every precaution as I've been reading everywhere to stay home if you're feeling sick. They informed me if I didn't come in for my appointment that I would be charged $50 for the late notice. I explained again I was feeling sick and with everything going asked if they really wanted me to come for an appointment in that condition and was told "that's up to you if you want to get charged or not." Long story short, I'm staying home and eating the $50 so I can be more responsible than an office of healthcare professionals. They obviously don't care about themselves or their patients. read more

I am historically the worst of the worst as far as dental patients go. I flinch and white knuckle my way through every appointment, sometimes whimpering like I'm a 4 year old who just had her puppy taken away. I've even been known to grab the hygienist's hand to make him/her stop. Real real bad. So bad, in fact, it causes me to not go to the dentist nearly as often as I should because, even at 41, I just cannot. After 20 years with my previous dentist, who retired (and quite frankly was extremely judge-y), I found Dr. Patel and Grand Dentistry. I was highly skeptical of the myriad five star reviews because how could anyone like the dentist that much. My first visit to Grand Dentistry earlier this year was my first visit to a dentist in four years (!!!!) It was embarassing, and I was sheepish about it. Dr. Patel and the awesome hygienists didn't judge, lecture, scold, or side eye me even a tiny bit for being so neglectful and then proceeded to be the absolute greatest dental experience I've ever had. So much so that I looked forward to going back today for a cleaning. What?! My cleaning today was so gentle and chill that I FELL ASLEEP while she was cleaning my teeth. Worst experience and patient care ever. I'd been visiting this clinic for a while and my last visit was for replacing my ortho retainer. The doctor just cemented it regardless the calculus on my teeth and u asked for a dental cleaning however he said there was no time for that in that day and he cemented it anyway. Few days later the retainer came off and I contacted the office and they offered to fix it in another clinic since I'm not in chicago anymore and send them a copy if the receipt. Then when I asked for a letter with that statement to be emailed to me they changed their mind and told me they would only refund. This was misleading and neglecting. They didn't respond to my email right away when the problem happened. They changed their promises and put me in a bad situation with my new dentist, and on risk of teeth replace with ignorance and arrogant. The doctor just blamed me that the problem happened because of my "poor" oral hygiene, I think he forgot that I'm a dentist. To wrap it off; find another clinic and be careful do NOT trust this place at all. and only after posting this super honest review, he changed the way of communication, which was arrogant, in order to let me remove my reviews So he tried to bargain me in order to give me my right after his mistake in my dental care, in order to delete my review which is my total right, and also to restrict other people "associated with me" from writing their own opinion based on their personal experience read more

I was a first time patient here and just wanted to get my teeth cleaned since i had not went to the dentist in a number of years. I found that with an appointment (I waited a whopping 5 minutes when I had gotten in), it was very seamless and easy to have everything done. My teeth were cleaned with ease, and the doc was very good and took her time on cleaning my teeth. I have had a number of bad experiences with dentists but this by far was the easiest and fastest.
