Great work, personable and no upsell! So disappointed Dr Ed is retiring as struggling to find another dentist with qualities I appreciate!

Padleckas found and said "good call on your dentist's review!" At that point, that's all I needed to hear.

First Dr. Karnaukh didn't measure my gums to monitor my gum recession and from my previous visit she should've made a note that my gums need to be measured on every visit because I have a significant damage to the structure of my teeth and gum recession as a result of a botched orthodontic treatment done a few years ago. She referred me to a physical therapy for my TMJ and difficulty swallowing but when I called the clinic they told me that based on my symptoms none of their doctors feel comfortable taking my case. Then the cleaning done by the hygienist was a complete joke because she didn't use the machine but she was scrubbing manually and that took forever to have my teeth cleaned. Lastly, they billed only the exam under Dr. Karnaukh's name and the cleaning was billed to my insurance under the name of Dr. Nouneh. I have never seen dr. Nouneh in my life so I don't know what kind of insurance frauds they do there and why they billed my cleaning under a doctor who has never seen me. I called my insurance company and they told me that I have to make them correct this and bill the cleaning under the name of the doctor who did the exam but the manager of Brighter Dental refused and she only offered to remove the balance I owed due to dr. Nouneh not being in network with my insurance. I don't recommend this dental office and unfortunately I have to be on the look for a new dentist again due to the unethical and fraudulent business practices done in this office.

But on my last three visits I have noticed a change. None of the original hygienists are there anymore. The two that I have had in the last few visits were not friendly, and on my most recent visit two weeks ago the hygienist was very abrupt and I told her to be gentler when she was doing the flossing but she just brushed it off. Every single time in the last 20 years that I have been in for my six month cleaning, Dr. Flak has come in to do an exam. This last time he didn't and he was there because I saw him in the next exam room. When I asked the hygienist if Dr. Flak was going to come in and do an exam she said "no, he'll do that next time in September". It looks like I'm going to have to find another dentist. I even called their office the next day to voice my concerns but they never returned my call.

Wanted to give this place a chance, but have to agree with all of the negative reviews…read more The dental assistant (hygienist?) - one older woman in particular was very very rude and generally abrasive. She was clearly taking out personal frustrations on patients and Flak would brush it off as if that were a normal or appropriate way for his staff to interact with patients. I visited the office twice, and both times she was very rude. Flak himself is visibly annoyed if you ask any questions, and he quite transparently just wants to move through as many patients in as little amount of time as possible. While I wish the best of luck to Flak and his team, I do want to warn others that if you care about a) bedside manner, and b) feeling like you aren't just being rushed out the door, I'd consider going elsewhere. The front desk was actually nice and helpful.

Typically, I trust the dentist when they recommend a procedure…read more Last year, when a dentist at Diversey Dental Studio suggested that I get Invisalign to eliminate the need for a night guard I took a pass. Especially when she said that my bottom teeth would require bonding following the Invisalign treatment. For the record- I have no complaints about the night guard. I responded that if I wanted to have my teeth straightened, I would see an orthodontist and get regular braces. Her face fell, and she stuttered a bit. That indicated to me that the $$ she was hunting for had flown out the window. Let me say that I have two generous dental insurance policies, and my gut tells me that this thirst for money motivates the dentists at Diversey Dental Studio. It always feels like I'm getting an upsell from them. Not good. I did not heed my inner voice and returned for a cleaning. Another dentist informed me that I needed to replace the filling on tooth #15 and needed a crown on a broken upper molar. I spent 2.5 hours in the chair to have both procedures done. After she filled tooth #15 it had a divot in the middle that was so deep I could fit half a tic-tac inside it. When I asked why it wasn't flat she said that she was a "perfectionist" and made the shape more like a natural tooth. Um, okay. To make matters worse, a third of my night guard broke off when I tried it following the procedures. I returned a week later to have the crown filed down and told the dentist that the crowned tooth was sensitive, and I had not been able to chew on it. She filed down the crown and filed a lower crown beneath the molar which covered a (very expensive) implant. She filed the teeth down so much that they no longer meet! She told me to wait two weeks to see if the sensitivity lessened. After two more weeks of not being able to chew on the right side of my mouth I made an appointment with Diversey Dental Studio's owner Dr. Jacqueline Rodriguez who confirmed that the upper molar and lower tooth no longer meet. This was causing additional pain in another lower tooth due to the misalignment of my bite. Rodriguez prescribed steroids and said I may need a root canal. She referred me to an endodontist that had many bad reviews that mentioned price gouging, so I ignored her recommendation and returned to my "old" dentist, "Dr. A" a few days later. Well, Dr. A. who has over 20 years' experience, said that I need antibiotics not steroids. He said that the filling that the Diversey dentist replaced on tooth #15 (for $433) seemed questionable as he had filled that tooth (for $150) in January 2023 with very strong composite material. Dr. A. repaired the divot that the "perfectionist" left me with and he sent me to an excellent endodontist for a root canal and he urged me to do it soon. Do the dentists at Diversey Dental have amazing resumes and an excellent bedside manner? Yes. Are they trying to pay off their student loans by padding the treatment plans? Perhaps. Do I trust them with my teeth? Never Again.

Of course, my routine checkup and cleaning were scheduled during the height of the pandemic, when everything was shut down. Even though the office was undoubtedly operating on a skeleton crew, I was able to easily reschedule by phone. When I made the call, I opted for a June appointment, figuring that things would be *mostly* reopened by then. Well, the appointed day (today) rolled around, and I ventured to my appointment (Note: the office recently moved to a new location, just a few blocks away from its old office on Grand). Although I was nervous about going in for what is arguably an elective procedure, I am so glad that I did. The new procedures require that one not wait around in the waiting area, so I can't really say that much about that portion of the practice. The new rooms appear more private/set apart and I noticed the receptionist wiping items down constantly, as well as the hygienist taking extra precautions. Most importantly is the professionalism of the staff and Dr. Patel in making sure that I felt comfortable and at ease. Going to the dentist can be nerve-wracking, and this uncertain time can amplify the sensation. I am glad that I didn't put off this routine appointment any longer, as my teeth now feel squeaky clean after 3 months of quarantine/stay at home orders.
