Came for their lunch hour and it was roughly $11.99 per adult. They have a really good variety! My favorite items were the fried jalapeños with cream cheese (so crispy & fresh!) and the spicy stir fried shrimp (the shrimp was perfectly seasoned & bouncy and it was not too spicy). Their dessert bar isn't the greatest which is why I knocked of a star... They had just a few stale cookies and prepackaged cake bites. I would have loved to see more variety! I knew the food would be good because the place was packed with people. I went with my husband and mother-in-law, and we all enjoyed the food very much. There was a huge selection to choose from. I should have given more credit to the poor reviews on this one. Grand China Buffet at the Pharr Town Center has a nice new building but their buffet line food is yuck. "Hot" items were lukewarm or cool except for a couple of things they had just set out. So the buffet warmer wasn't working or the food was way too old. The General Tso chicken was gooey. The sweet and sour sauce was watered down and tasteless. Egg rolls were soft and lukewarm. Cheese wontons were nicely stuffed but, again, not hot nor crispy. Also, way too sweet. My son tried the crayfish and said it lacked seasoning as compared to other Chinese buffets. The fried calamari was overdone and way too rubbery. There were a few dishes like the chicken and broccoli which was OK, but nothing special. The cold boiled shrimp was served on ice and good. The fried rice and lo mein noodles were average. The dessert bar was unspectacular: banana with a red sauce, custard type pie, rice crispy treats, etc. :-/ The best thing was the ice cream, nothing special, but real. However the water in the pan the used scoops are kept in needed changing. Actually, nice places have continually running water to keep it fresh. The best food offered is the Mongolian Grill, and the cook does a great job of that. The raw items to select could use more variety but were fresh. You assemble what you desire cooked together, add the sauces, oils and seasoning and wait your turn. When he's done he hands it to you hot. I waited about ten minutes. With only one cook, I can only imagine the line had the restaurant been full. There are no vegetarian protein options on the buffet. We asked if they might add one. No. We had to insist all the way to the manager. Her first response was negative but we persisted and suggested some tofu from the kitchen be provided so my daughter could assemble a Mongolian grill plate. Again, the first response was negative but after both me and my wife insisting she did finally go and retrieve some tofu. By that time it was hard to keep a good feeling about the place. (That was before I even got to the actual buffet.) The server though not helpful regarding vegetarian protein option (he suggested "salad" which was chopped iceberg lettuce), was friendly and did a great job with drink refills. SUMMARY: The dining room looks nice and modern. Great parking and location. The lighting is great. The bathrooms needed attention. The server did well. The manager knows nothing about vegetarian food and lacks customer service skills. The prices are a little more than some other buffets. Overall the food was yuck to average. Mongolian grill is good if you have time to stand in line. No vegetarian protein options. I won't be back. Added note: There are rooms available for private parties. read more

Horrible service before having a chance to eat. We were harassed by Summer who ran the cash register when we asked about being charged for gloves? She initially hid our receipt and only wanted us to see the signed customer copy. I thought that was shady all while I was reading their displayed notices of food sharing and zero tolerance of aggressive behavior? Was that their notice to treat their patrons that way? Completely inexcusable!! She never disclosed the charge of gloves and I told her that was unethical and she told me that it's always been a charge. On top of hiding the receipt with those charges. I had to ask to see the full receipt. After we were taken to our table, my wife went to get food as I waited, and Summer targeted my wife soon as she was serving herself food, ran over to her demanding that stew surrender get food. She was very animated in an angry tone telling my wife that she couldn't eat because we ​didn't pay for gloves. Summer was completely rude and totally disrespectful. The food is good just about any time of the day because this buffet has a regular turnaround of customers. While there the food on the buffet was regularly stirred and resupplied. There is a constant billow of steam coming from the heated serving islands and the heat lamps keep everything looking and smelling fresh. My wife and I enjoy this buffet just about every time we are in town. The two reasons I did not give them 5 stars are the horrible tasting fountain drinks and the level of noise that the bussing staff makes. Order water. The Pepsi and Sierra Mist taste nothing like the real thing. In fact, the fountain drinks taste like cleaning chemicals. It's really bad. Take my word for it. Selection is out of this world. The chicken salad is best I have ever had...simply excellent. Even better than Zoes! She went to ask the manager if they can allowed us to seat we wanted, we were 6 persons and we wanted a 6 seat table, she had to ask for authorization and finally we did. The waitress came and said my kids were drinking from the same glass and that she was going to charge us another drink, we told her OK and please leave us alone because she was acting very rude, she was yelling at us not being nice or kind at all. We called the manager but he didn't help at all. My husband went to the cashier and paid for the extra drink and the cashier called the cops on him saying the owner wanted us out of his restaurant. 8 cops came inside to take us out of the place. We still can't believe the lack of professionalism of the staff and we are amazed they really called the cops and kicked us out. We paid over $90 for the worst meal ever!
