Played here a couple of weekends ago, amongst the Saharan dessert dust storm. Me and pops had been giddy for a month while waiting for our wives to skip town so we could not feel guilty for such a trip. Enjoyed the ride down from Laurel, not too bad of a drive. After turning left on 49 and riding down the winding road everyone before has described, our excitement continued to grow. When you emerge from the forest, you are well aware that you have just arrived at a top of the line golfing facility. 1st thing we noticed besides how pretty everything looks, is how friendly the staff are. Like, literally never have any of us went to play golf somewhere and had friendlier people to assist you. For real this aspect blew our mind. I'm assuming they are in the process of re-sodding the driving range area, because when we stepped over there to warm up, there was hardly any grass. We were thinking, Oh no, surely it's not like this on the course. It wasn't! Stepping onto the first tee, everyone in our group were definitely thinking, holy shit, this is about to be a fun round. It was so incredible, everything was so green, and uniformed, and perfectly maintained. The open fairways give you confidence off the tee. Being able to use every club in the bag is a fun change of things compared to Driver sand wedge on some courses. This is vitally important. All the greens rolled the same speed??? They were a little slower than I believe most avid golfers would like to see, but still they were pure as could be. Completely flat tee boxes, What in the world?? Grand Bear got em. The course lay out is something special in itself. I will definitely be taking off on Fridays to come, to get back out on this course. Small disclaimer, we did run into a couple packs of skeeters that were quite numerous. Luckily, and of course, my dad had some off in his bag and that seemed to keep them off of us. I was about to swat one with a new white hat, but decided against that, seeing how it was so big that it would have definitely ruined the hat. Oh and if you've got the time, or staying in a nearby hotel for another round the following day, you've got to hang out in their bar, restaurant area. It's also one of the coolest golf/bar areas I've ever seen as well. Once again, the people working the bar were just as nice as everyone else we'd met that day. Heard great things about the Grand Bear so added it to our golf trip rotation. Really looking toward to a Jack Nicklaus course. While the course design was incredible the maintenance was very poor. All of the fairways were rock hard with very short grass. At first glance it looks nice but I'd almost prefer to play off the parking lot than these fairways. I was supremely disappointed in the playing conditions for what should be a great golf experience. If they can learn to grow grass and water the fairways you will be treated great by the excellent and friendly staff. read more

Everything needs to improve! Total rip off! What was once Grand , is no more. 17 of the 18 greens were junk. Fairways were not in good condition. They screwed up our group reservation. And the food was awful! Been playing there 10 years and will not waste my money there anymore. read more

Man, this is a nice golf course, worth $90 a round. But 5 hours, come on man. I think they need a Marshall on the course not just a starter. No excuses, it's a Saturday, Saturday play is slow, etc. etc. please get a Marshall out in the course to speed up slow play. read more

When you stumble on a place after looking for something and it feels like kismet...that is what Grand Bear Golf Club is to us. My husband (fiancé back in January 2020) and I were looking for trails to ride ATVs. Traveling on the winding, 6 mile stretch reminded me of "The Dragon" in Deals Gap, NC and Lombard St in San Fran. The incredible part was when this road opened up to this specular space, a rustic log cabin and manicured greens. Of course, we wanted to see more and, as perfect timing would have it, Mr. Brad Kale was there and welcomed us in without hesitation. The immediate smell of the logs assured us this place was special. It was so special that we asked Brad if he'd host our wedding. We were elated when he said, "Yes! We've never hosted a wedding before. So, yours will be the first." KISMET Unfortunately, COVID-19 had other plans and the venue had to be closed three days before our wedding. Talk about devastated! Regardless, we pressed on and tied the knot in our back yard. The Grand Bear Golf Club remained a special place in my heart. So much so, that I came up with the idea to surprise my husband with dinner there for our one year anniversary. So, I stopped by, reconnected with Brad and was introduced to Mr. Allan Martel. They agreed and my idea came to fruition. Alan set a private table for us by the big bay window. Chef Arnold hit the nail on the head with the meal request. We laughed as we realized we had to eat slower to savior the gourmet burgers, but they were too juicy to do so. Ms. Paige provided such personable service,and was a wonderful host, too! They executed everything I asked for. John was surprised and we couldn't be more pleased. I cannot thank you enough, Brad , Allan, Chef Arnold & Paige. Had a great time here. I made the drive from Texas and was really excited to play here, the only complaint was the pace of play was terrible I got stuck behind multiple slow groups and took 7 hours to finish. The course was amazing tho and I really did enjoy it. read more

Well, this is a review from someone (9 handicap that used to be a 1 handicap) that bought their Winter membership, and I've played there about 9 times now. I'll start by saying that it is a solid, challenging, golf course that is well designed with no slouch holes. Seriously, it's a good course. It's as long as you could possibly want. I play the golden tees and almost no one plays those with me and there's still the grizzly tees behind that. The greens are usually just true as can be. Here are a couple of the catches to help you navigate - you can run into some pretty obnoxious casino guests that can ruin your day. I played the other day, and if I hadn't just been able to give the pro a nod and grab a bucket of balls for myself I would've been at the cashier for 30 minutes while a group of 16 checked in and I think everyone needed rental sticks, then balls, then naked lady tees... you get the picture. I get this suspicion that the casino would much rather people be at the tables than the golf course. It's kind of like a movie set sometimes - the facade is there, but when you peek behind the curtain, the people running it, while highly qualified, just feel understaffed. Good luck getting a marshall to keep play moving - there isn't one (although I hear they will send out someone if you call, but what're they gonna do when they've got 8 groups in a row playing 5 hour paces?). One day I had a tee time for two and I was on the tee and the starter asked us to step aside for a threesome that "plays fast" to go ahead of us. I play fast, and we were a twosome, only to just sit there behind them because the course was backed up all day. I've never, ever been pulled off a tee like that and it just kinda ruined the day. Oh, the one thing course related, the bunkers couldn't be more inconsistent. Sometimes they're hard, sometimes they're 6 inches deep. I hear they might spend $300k on a bunker upgrade, but we'll have to wait and see. Enough with the complaining - two of my favorite gems I've found here are Theresa, the red haired bartender/cart girl if they're busy, and my man Arnold running the grill. If it's morning you have got to try the grilled ham, egg, and cheese, and if it's lunch get the grilled ham and cheese - they are really stellar. If Arnold has his collared greens made, get em. The staff were very friendly, and attentive to your needs. The course is very well managed and the staff in the pro shop really helped you with course instructions. The golf course is in excellent shape ! The greens are quick but give you birdie opportunities . Fairways are wide and the grass is in great shape , so you are not hitting off of bad lies in the fairway. Had the opportunity to golf Grand Bear on December 28. The course was excellent and had a wonderful experience. Everyone was pleasant and love how secluded this course is. No distractions like houses, roads or trains. The deer I saw were even quiet! I was impressed with the young girl working the pro-shop as she was very relatable. Besides the started gentleman, her people skills for her age stood out above the others I met that day. Needless to say, I can't wait to golf Grand Bear again soon. read more

It is hard to find and deep in the De Soto National Forest but well worth the drive! It is a beautiful golf course and extremely well maintained. This could be one of the best places to play in the whole state of Mississippi. If you are around the gulf coast you must play this one. read more

Nice course! Draw backs: Location of the course makes it a little tough to get to plus the 6-8 mile drive back into the woods where they built the course is a slow winding road that never seems to end. Gotta question why they didn't just cut a road straight back to the course. Positives: You have to play some golf on this course. I do not think you want to go out and hack at it. There is a challenge on just about every hole. The Par 3s take some work! The club house is nice and open. It is setup for a bunch of guys to sit around and tell stories. Club House is nice. It's a $50 golf course charging $100. Fairways are thin. Got mud balls and it's been dry here for weeks. Greens are thin and bumpy. Back nine is far better than front nine in terms of layout. Also, drive into the course is a winding and slow 6 mile drive. read more

Course was in beautiful shape. Greens rolled true, fairways were lush. Course can be tough if you find a few of the high-walled bunkers. Really a treat to get the opportunity to drive out there and play it - highly recommend. Proshop and cart guys were top notch. Only complaint was the attitude of the cart girl and red headed bar tender. It was obvious they did not like taking food/bev orders or even being spoken to by customers. Extremely poor attitudes. Pretty surprised that they have jobs in the customer service industry. If it were my course, I'd have them looking for a new line of work. read more

Played this course during the week and we were pleasantly surprised at the course and service. Very friendly attendant that was helpful. Course is a Nicklaus design which means it has many traps and holes that suck you into trouble if you aren't careful. Conditions were great and there are 0 homes on this course. Quiet and definitely worth the trip to get here. It is very out of the way and secluded but I would definitely play it again. The forward tees are very accommodating to shorter hitters. This course is a must play if you are anywhere close to Biloxi / Gulfport. Absolutely perfect condition, challenging but fair layout. Not a boring hole in 18. Nothing tricky. Holy cow is the drive there interesting. You take a 6 mile entrance back through a forest preserve and then all pf the sudden a golf course appears. The conditions tee to green were good. A decent amount of grass in fairways and the rough was still dormant so that made it nice. The greens on the other hand were very thin and bumpy. They were fast enough but there just wasn't enough grass on them. The putting green was deceiving because it was both fast and had plenty of grass. The only other issue was the huge bumble bees all around the club house and the small gnats on the first couple of holes. read more
