Everything is very political now. Parents aren't allowed on campus unless they are part of the P3 club. But a lot of parents work and don't have time to dedicate to the club. Also, a lot of parents would take off work to be there to volunteer and hang out with their kids. But instead, it's a mean girls club running the whole school now. Someone who is barely started the school this school year is the president of the club. She has no idea what she is doing, she is badmouthing a lot of the other parents, doesn't know most of the students. I don't think Yvonne understands that so many parents are not being a part of the club because of this single woman. Yvonne is also one of the rudest women I've ever come across. Someone who should not be working with special needs children. And has a consistent bad attitude with parents. Or any child. A lot of the parents are in the works of speaking to other campuses about transferring. And we are all giving notes about other appropriate schools where the children and all their parents come first. The three stars that I left, not for the higher-ups not for the P3 club, it's for the teachers! The teaching staff is amazing and kind and caring and goes above and beyond. And for Mr Dilly! he always treats Parents with respect he is kind and caring, always roaming the school, checking on the kids and the staff. In my opinion and an opinion that a lot of others have is he should be the main one running things. So thank you Mr Dilly and the entire teaching staff! If it wasn't for you guys, a lot of us would have left a while ago. It's you guys that keep our kids happy at school, and keep them wanting to come back! My kid went here last year and everyday I would have to call the office and the principal just to get the teachers to login. When grades came out they didn't give him grades and I am still trying to get the grades 6 months later. 4 out of 5 of his teachers left the school, the principal is gone too, and they can't find any record of his grades. They put him in the wrong grade but won't give him the grades for the courses he took. Now because it's all new people again we can't get his grades because employees can't access grades from before they worked there which includes the registrar. I wouldn't recommend this school to my worst enemy. We are still trying to find his grades and because it's a private school the board of education can't help.

Great hearts is much more structured than Montessori, and the hardest part of the transition to Great Hearts or Basis from a Montessori setting is obviously going to be the homework. From no homework to almost 90 minutes per day was gruelling for at least two months. There were many tears. It tried everyone patience. However, he made friends and learned all his school mates are doing that much homework too. The reading issue which is very important to me as a former English major in college was solved by Great Hearts and myself by introducing reading great literature to young minds. My son and I chose books outside of school reading, "Call of The Wild" by Jack London, was probably the break through book with my boy. I'd read a couple of chapters out loud in bed right when we'd wake up on a Summer morning. He is still half asleep when I start reading, but his ears would perk up as the story became interesting.... Then on some sort of intriguing moment the story, I'd stop and put the book down and my son would ask, "can you read some more...?" I'd tell him to pick up the book read some if he wanted to know what is next and he did, but I'd ask him, read it out loud, so we do it together.... This is the secret to inspiring to read, the curiosity of what happens next in a great story.... If you are a reader, it is the only reason you've ever turned the page of any book that wasn't required for class... You want to know more. It is the beginning of a thirst. Maybe knowledge of what happens next of certain character, but later it might be a thirst for recent scientific findings. It is the thirst that is the most important. So I spoon fed him great literature for his mind. I hoped his curiosity would pique and it did. So now I enjoy reading these books too... Bob books and Dr Suess have their place, but Third grade is past time to drop them. A third grade mind is fertile, so plant a great seed. At Great Hearts, they had on the syllabus, C.S.Louis's, "The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe." So I found the prequel book to it, and read that one together. By the time, of the year the class started reading the book my son has some insight for the pre story and who the characters were.... So of course later when the class finished with "The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe," my son wanted to know more, so he ended up reading the entire chronicles of Narnia outside of class.... And a reader was born and he is still going. My son during 4th Grade at his discretion, proclaimed he wanted to be an engineer, which seemed odd to me, since I am more of a literature type, so I took him to science night at Basis the infamous school known for 2 hours of homework nightly... He wanted the focus on math and engineering, so he now attends Basis, but his reading, remains strong in spite of the large homework load and less emphasis on literature He is currently reading Jules Vern's, "Around The World in Eighty Days." There is one more environmental difference i provided for my boy since his birth which should be disclosed, since it is quite rare and has definitely been a contributing factor to my son's greatness (as I perceive him to be). I do not have a television in the house. I do not have an iPad either. My son does not have a screen of his own. This is probably another aspect which contributes to his non-electronic, non-ADD ability to concentrate and find enjoyment in less stimulating entertainment, such as reading...

My son attended Smarty Pants Preschool in Phoenix, AZ for 6 months (20mon old-26mon old). At the…read moretime Mercedes, the owner, said she had 1 spot available. She was only accepting children that were 1 and walking. Once my son was enrolled, she was caring for 6 full-time toddlers and 6 part-time toddlers which included her own children. You'll see in a photo how attendance was at first. Before we left, she was going to start offering date night services as well. Something that set her apart from the in-home daycare competition was the live streaming cameras available so you can check-in on your little whenever you'd like to. It wasn't a requirement of ours but a plus. Fast forward 6 months and she has 16 full-time children in 1 room (varying ages) and babies that don't walk yet are kept in the kitchen area in bouncers/walkers/etc. One morning my mother was watching her grandson on the video feed, and she told me that 2 children are attacking my son. I texted Mercedes about it, and she said he was okay. She told me my son was instigating fights all morning with the other boys and being defiant with her, so she took him in the kitchen for him to calm down while she cleaned up. She asked what she can do to help with his behavior as well. She didn't provide any "ouch report" or give him ice, no aftercare. I left it at that while I searched the surveillance to see the actual incident for myself. Mind you, this took some time since you're able to search down to the millisecond and the camera's time was incorrect by several hours. My husband left work early to pick our son up from daycare. When my husband arrived, our son started crying hysterically. He was clearly stressed out and wanted to leave the place after what occurred. While I'm searching through the video feed from that morning, I didn't see any instigating from my son to warrant the treatment or lack of supervision received. I saw an instance that same day where my son is being choked by another child in the corner while Mercedes was in the room as well. Another child who appeared to be at least 6 years old stepped in to stop the boy from choking my son. When I found the incident my mother was talking about, I gave Mercedes notice immediately that he wasn't returning. In the video my son is minding his own. Then 2 older boys were literally attacking him. Choking him, pulling his hair, jumping on his legs, punching him in the face. I wish I was exaggerating. It's footage is hard to watch. My son was screaming and crying at the time as well. I sent the video to Mercedes via email, business phone, and personal phone along with our notice. She apologized that it happened and explained that she was answering the door at the time. She also mentioned that those 2 boys have medically diagnosed behavioral conditions. For context, I don't believe the boys are from the same household since my husband recognized 1 of them from pickup/drop off. This is probably not the first occurrence of these children attacking others. Mercedes cannot provide the proper care for those children with special needs plus 14+ others. She does have a part-time helper for the infants, she's not there every day though. Smarty Pants Preschool's tuition was slightly below market, so this is one of those "you get what you pay for" situations unfortunately. In 6 months my son did maybe 2 arts and crafts projects? And that's me just giving her the benefit of the doubt. We never actually saw any projects completed by him and none were brought home. The cameras weren't working on a consistent basis, especially the one in the kitchen. The tv was on all day, every day, not just Friday for movie day. This is not a licensed facility. Thankfully I was able to enroll my son immediately at another in-home preschool that we were also interested in before. It's about the same distance from our home in Tempe. Our son hasn't had any issues with "instigating" anything. He's been thriving and learning in a supportive and positive environment. When I was researching different daycares and preschools for my son to attend, Smarty Pants Preschool wasn't open for a year yet so the information I did find was minimal, but positive.
