When head staff was presented with this matter, multiple times last year 2023 it was shrugged off, and all of my emails were ignored or returned with empty remarks. Right before his second grade year started, parents of the children in my sons classroom had told me that my son was being treated poorly and that is why some of our kids were bonding because they were sticking up for him. When I approached the head staff about this, they told me they would not be switch classrooms and I was for a lack of better terms out of luck. Then disenrolled my son after I said he wouldn't be attending if he could not switch classrooms. Poor community really bad people skills and a huge lack of empathy for the children who go to the school. it really is all about money here. I am happy. He is no longer enrolled at the school. If you want a "what would Maria Montessori do?" Reply to every single one of your questions then this is the place for you.

She will be moving on to a gifted school for first grade, but if she had not been accepted into Knox Gifted Academy, I would have happily kept her at Dobson. Her teacher, Mrs. Ambrose, was truly a gem. One of those teachers where you can clearly see how much she loves what she does and how much she cares for her students. Her assistant teacher, Mrs. Padilla, was also amazing! Very involved and always proactive in coming to me with updates or concerns about my daughter, Vivienne. Every morning when you walked into the school, you were greeted with smiles and uplifting music that set a positive tone for the day. It felt like a community where everyone knew your name and genuinely cared. The principal is also very present and involved, which really shows in the school's culture and environment. The homework is substantial, the tests and quizzes are challenging, and the teachers expect a lot from the kids. It's not easy to get into this school (lottery and waiting lists) but it's every bit worth the effort. My kids will both graduate from here probably more capable than I was when I graduated college. The teachers are available virtually ANY time for tutoring, and the staff and parents group are both above excellent. Glad I found this school, and you will be too.

Compared to other schools we've been at (a mix of private and public), SJB feels so much more like a community. In a perfect world I would love for my kids to have an old fashioned school experience - riding their bikes to school with all the neighborhood kids, everyone knowing everyone. But living in deep Ahwatukee, far from walking distance to any school, and in a neighborhood where kids go to at least 5 different public/charter/private elementary schools, that just wasn't going to happen. But the way SJB operates, it feels like the next best thing. If you're considering SJB, my best advice is to take a tour during the school day. Bonus if you can be there to witness a pickup/drop off, when all the parents and students are chatting and catching up in the courtyard like one big family. Once the school day starts you'll see such respectful kids and caring teachers working together in the classrooms as well as in the outdoor spaces. The academic standards are high, but the vibe is warm and welcoming. And because it's on the smaller side (50 kids per grade, max), the staff is able to work with students individually as needed, something that has been a huge benefit for my family. I'm so happy to have found the right school for us, especially knowing that my kids can thrive there all the way through 8th grade!
