We live in Central Phoenix, much closer to St. Francis, the Madison schools, and All Saints. We happily make the commute to SS. Simon & Jude because, for our family, it is absolutely worth it.
My wife and I have four children and many years of experience with schools across the Valley. I don't say this lightly: our experience at SSJ has been exponentially better than at other schools we've attended. Choosing it for our youngest, Phoenix, has been one of the best decisions we've made as parents.
Phoenix is now in eighth grade and will graduate in 2027. Knowing this is his last year makes us appreciate everything this school has given our family even more.
The education is second to none. The teachers care, challenge the kids, and hold them to high standards. I especially appreciate the encouragement to read and develop a love of learning. The expectations extend to respect, responsibility, and how students treat one another. SSJ reinforces what we're teaching at home, and that partnership means a lot to us.
One of my favorite things is the diversity of the school community. Some students live in the surrounding neighborhood; others come from all over the Valley, just like us. I love that our son is building friendships with kids from different backgrounds and life experiences. There's real value in that.
The sports are competitive, the school spirit is strong, and the assemblies and family events bring everyone together. Students and parents are welcomed, included, and encouraged to participate. Our kids love this school, and my wife and I love being part of it.
We also feel safe on campus. From the crossing guards to the security guards, we appreciate the people helping look after our children. Whether we're there for a regular school day, an assembly, or a family event, we feel comfortable. As a parent, that peace of mind is huge.
For families wondering about the Catholic aspect: we are not Catholic, and we have felt completely embraced from day one. We appreciate the school's faith, traditions, and emphasis on service and character. We've always felt that our family belongs.
As graduation approaches, I'm grateful for the people helping prepare Phoenix for high school and the years beyond it. Academic preparation matters. So does learning to take responsibility, care about others, and carry yourself with integrity. We value the attention SSJ gives to all of it.
To the teachers, staff, and everyone who makes SSJ what it is: thank you. We see the care you put into this school, and our family appreciates it.
I gave SSJ an 11 out of 10 before, and I stand by it. If you're considering schools in Phoenix, visit--even if another school is closer. We're glad we did, and we would make the same choice again in a heartbeat. read more
