Good experience here. Except for all the drug problems. Waaaaaay too much adderall floating round these halls. Also my boy Colin went here!

This is a private preparatory Catholic high school…read more It is an extremely snobbish, cliquish, money grubbing institution. I almost enrolled my granddaughter here but I was appalled how I was treated by the admissions office. Charge me for this, charge me for that, you ticked the wrong, you used the wrong color pen, no,no and no, you did this wrong, etc. etc. If your child belongs to one of Phoenix's upper middle class and above families, then this school is perfect for him or her. However, if your child is just average Phoenix middle or working class, he or she will be discriminated against silently, mocked, derided, looked down up and generally made to feel out of place. When I was going through the admissions process with my granddaughter, I contacted many of the parents who had sent their children initially to Xavier. An amazing 60% told me that they had regretted their decision very much and many had pulled their child from the school. Given the child abuse scandals currently affecting the Catholic Church and the degree to which it is now affecting the Catholic Church, I would no longer be able in any confidence to confide my child to a Catholic institution for fear of irreparable damage. Choose a charter school, a Protestant school, or an excellent public high school and research it well. Otherwise, be prepared to have a damaged child morally and physically.

School might be great but you have to get in first. If you are not rich and white or brown and poor…read moreyou will have a challenge.A special education teacher is one that denied my child admission because she self diagnosed my kid as ADHD after spending 6 minutes with him. My child went on to a competitive middle school (PCDS) since she had the hand in denying him admission and has now completed his semester freshmen year at PRINCETON with all A's. My neighbors kid was a member of the church and her student was denied for kindergarten because he couldn't draw a complete circle! SERIOUSLY! he is now a sophomore at BROPHY! How the diocese allows this school to deny their own based on one person's opinion is scary. So parents do not be discouraged if your child is denied admission here since they are "selective". Your child will be okay.

This is just a fantastic school. We enrolled our son here last year and I can't tell you how great…read morethe faculty, teachers, administration and community have been. This school also has many benefits that other private schools don't have, like Campus Ministry, A Counselor and A Special Ed. Coordinator who are all wonderful and truly have our child's best interest in mind. The school is also very focused on service to others and the kids treat each other and adults with respect which I have not found in many school nowadays. I highly recommend St. Francis Elementary!

Academically, the school is okay. The small class size allows students to get more personalized…read morehelp in their classes. Sports are not great, but it is nice that everyone has a chance to be involved. Music and arts aren't great either, but the same thing goes. However, I have many other things to say. The school has a huge favoritism problem in relation to what some students can get away with, such as the dress code. If your mom helps out around the school and donates a lot, you can wear whatever you want, like short shorts. Otherwise, it's a very strict dress code. Some of the teachers also have really bad favoritism, and some students get away with things that others do not. The principal and especially the counselor are pretty rude, and neither is very helpful. The students are overall terrible. Huge bullying problem to the point where I left halfway through my senior year. I dealt with constant rumors and bullying for two years, and the school failed to help. I've heard sexist, racist, etc. comments. You would think a Christian school would have nice kids, but nope. Everyone talks crap about everyone, even more than they do at public schools, in my opinion. The drug and alcohol problem is also just as bad as it would be at a normal public school. Kids do both during school hours and somehow don't get caught. I overall don't recommend this school. The social environment is terrible and made my anxiety spike all four years.

Our son is a student at Valley Lutheran High School. And, we are sooo happy about his attendance…read morethere. Our son's teachers are very inspiring and highly engaged; they are so supportive. His teachers' commitment to excellence in education within a Christian context is both obvious and palpable. We are excited for him to be a student at VLHS, and we are fully onboard and committed to his education there. The VLHS curriculum is both challenging and nurturing. There is no doubt about that. The facilities are wonderful. Great classrooms...they are new, bright and clean. There are other options for private, Christian education in Phoenix; however, VLHS is intentionally small, and there are distinct advantages to small class size, particularly with the ability to give a lot of attention to each student. To be sure, VLHS is also a value in terms of cost...tuition and fees are about 1/2 the cost of other parochial high schools in the Phoenix. VLHS may well offer the best educational value for the dollar, and it may well be the best kept secret in Phoenix. Graduates go on to many of the finest colleges in the country. Financial assistance is available, too....
