Shopping for a very specific anime gift for a teen friend I knew I went to the right place when Mr. Wayne himself gave me a very detailed tour of his wares. This world today is far more complex than it was back in my Batman and Robin days, so I was very happy to get the assistance. They have every price point and virtually every character. The staff will look up books to buy new for 20% off, too, if they are still in publication. The gentleman behind the desk showed us some special editions of some books. Although we could not buy them, it was really interesting to see. Good selection and genres are well marked so you will be able to find science or science fiction books.

These guys had prints that I haven't been able to locate at other shops, and everything was extremely well organized. Books were in great condition, and the staff were so kind and helpful. Very much a "reader's" comic shop, but they have tables set up for your D&D game or Magic or really whatever your fancy is. First, their store credit policy makes no sense: you can't use it on "premium" items, which defeats the purpose of having store credit at all. On top of that, when I sold them some premium Magic: The Gathering cards, the prices I was given were for the wrong versions. Because I had my three kids with me at the time, I didn't notice until later, but it felt dishonest and not worth the argument. What bothered me most, though, was how they treated me as a newer customer. I stood waiting for about 15 minutes with my kids while staff ignored me to casually chat and eat with tournament patrons who weren't even doing business at the time. They had recognized me, but still dismissed me while I was clearly trying to complete a transaction. It made me feel like my time -- and my business -- weren't valued. Most of the staff were nice, but the older bald gentleman was rude and dismissive, which really stood out. Between the poor credit rules, the card pricing issue, and the way I was treated as a customer, I can't recommend Thunder Comics. If they want to encourage more sales and playtime in their store, they should focus more on being fair, welcoming, and attentive -- especially to new customers

Having been in comics for 40 years, I'm tired of seeing shop owners who lack customer service. I'm…read morean experienced collector and know how to handle comics so I don't appreciate being told I can't open them to check for condition. Even though he was willing to open them for me, I tend to buy dozens at a time and could potentially be at the register for 30 min while he opens them for me. I'm not looking for perfect customer service but there's a way to talk to people. He wasn't rude but had the personality of a rock. I'm in my 50's and don't appreciate being treated like a child. Put up signage if you don't want people to open the books. And how about a break it or buy it policy? Even though I handle the books better than most store owners, if I damage the book while examining it, I'll pay for it. You already got cameras on me so what's the problem. I won't be back. (Replying to the owner's reply: A better response would have been, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience and misunderstanding. I'll take your thoughts into consideration and strive to create a better experience for my customers. I appreciate your visiting my store and I hope that you have a more positive experience if you ever return." Now THAT would win my business.

I was visiting from out of state and stumbled upon Amazing Fantasy which I had never heard of…read morethough their legacy is rich and long in Chicagoland. For a smaller store, I really was impressed by the amount of back bins there were and even found some gems! And the prices were really good. The proprietor, Brock, was welcoming, helpful, insightful and a pleasure to chit chat with. He made me feel at home and took care of me. He's a very fair and generous guy! I would describe my experience here as something straight out of an SNL skit…read more While going through some old boxes, I came across a few magazines from when I was much younger--an old 1979 Spider-Man, Hulk, and some 1980s Cracked and Mad magazines. Curious if they had any value, I brought them into the store to see if they might be interested in buying them. I walked in with the magazines, and was immediately greeted by five employees behind the counter looking at me like I had just walked in carrying something from another planet. I explained, "Hey, I came across some of these old magazines and thought I'd stop by to see if there's any value in them and whether you might be interested." The five of them chuckled, looked at each other, and eventually one employee reluctantly flipped through them. In a tone that made it pretty clear what he thought of the whole situation, he said, "I'll give you $2 for all of them." Cue another round of chuckling among the five employees. At that point, I honestly had to laugh. Watching the whole interaction unfold in real time was so absurd that it felt like I had wandered onto the set of an SNL skit. I couldn't wait to tell my friends about it. I certainly wasn't expecting a fortune for a handful of old magazines, but a little professionalism and courtesy would have gone a long way. Good luck!
