Very helpful owner. I bought my first comic book from this place and it was a delightful experience. Large selection of material.

Ask the Community - One Stop Comics

Do they buy old comic books from personal collections?

I took in my husband's 1980-1983 personal collection today and Rick bought 5 specific comic books for $15 and offered me another $8 for the remaining 60 comic books. All in plastic, in binders, in good to very good condition. I just took the $15.

The setup is different, but still had a good selection comics to funko pops, games, collectibles and more. Very friendly staff, greeted once coming in. The game room in the back is still available. The value of the comics are at a good price. No complaints. I was sad to see G-Mart comics go, but I am glad it stayed comic shop. I wish Dark Tower comics so much success. I will be back soon.

Not really a comic shop pro. I got back into reading comics during COVID, but mostly digital and…read moreafter a while it turned into buying physical stuff. G-Mart (the previous shop that occupied this space) was very close to me so it was my go to shop. I found their online ordering setup a bit old school, but man what I wouldn't give to have that back. At least G-Mart would send you e-mails updating you on your order. The Dark Tower system is definitely more modern, but there's no real notifications unless I'm missing something. No more discounts on subs either which is a real kick in the dick. I pre-ordered a comic months in advance, again no real e-mail communication. Showed up on the release date and they just straight up didn't have it. The good thing is they don't charge you ahead of time like G-Mart did. Luckily Challengers had it in stock though! The other day I got a new releases e-mail for the first time in the history of the store becoming Dark Tower and it's just some dudes name instead of Dark Tower so I thought it was junk. I dunno man, I usually like the real local mom and pop feel of stores because everything is a shitty chain these days, but this place may be a little too mom and pop. Hopefully I've just had bad luck with them but I'm back to a digital only comic reader for the time being.

Incompetent at best, homophobic at worst…read more I walked in looking for seven different books, and they had none of them in stock. I had a gift card; I asked the woman working the register to order four books. I listed out all four books verbally, twice. Three were queer romances they didn't have in stock--two of them being the Gay Hockey Books currently dominating the cultural conversation. Surprise surprise, when I went to pick them up today, they'd ordered the second book in the series, but no the first. Despite the cashier repeating my order back to me and confirming. I walked out with three books, confused. On top of this, their selection is tiny and their poetry section is one sad little table. The "gay" section is shoved all the way in the back in corner like a shameful secret, like it's 2003 or something. The romance section was maybe the largest, and out of that entire section, I found two queer romances (both by Casey McQuiston, NYT Bestseller). Oak Park is an incredibly liberal and incredibly queer suburb of Chicago. Heated Rivalry is one of the biggest shows on TV right now, and it's baffling to me that any bookstore in Oak Park wouldn't have a table display for it. Overall the Book Loft is an underwhelming replacement for the Book Table. RIP
