I had a slow tire leak, and made an appointment at a major chain tire place, having to wait a week. I then woke up to a flat tire, so sent an SOS to Grafton Tire. The woman I spoke with was so kind and so accommodating. They squeezed me in, and had my tire repaired in no time, at a reasonable cost. Fast forward two weeks, and I was in the same predicament with a different tire! Grafton Tire, yet again, saved my butt and had my tire fixed in no time. I traveled from NH to Millbury to grocery shop and look after my elderly mom. As I left her house I noticed I had a leak in my tire. Apparently I ran over a screw. I would not recommend this repair shop due to overcharging through illegitimate fees and excessive parts markup. First let me say that they seem to be honest, reliable and competent. By that I mean that they only seem to do work which actually needs to be done, they get your vehicle back to you when they say they will and the work that they do seems to get done right. These are all good things and I wouldn't necessarily call this a bad shop. That having been said, I do find their parts markup and additional fees (beyond labor) to be excessive. I drive a sportscar and I took it to this shop once because it had a problem on one side. I knew what the problem was, so I bought the replacement part and had them install it. The total cost of the repair (part & labor) was around $200 and I was satisfied with the service I received. A couple of months later, the exact same part failed on the other side of the car. Since I was happy with their last repair, I brought my car back to them to perform the exact same job a second time. I expected the cost to be about the same, or perhaps a little more because I did not provide the part this time. I was shocked to get charged more than double (almost $500) for the same identical job! The labor was the same, however, they charged more than double for the cost of the part! Then they charged me an additional fee because they claim that they had to use "the scanner" to diagnose my problem (around $90 - which is about 20% of the cost of "the scanner" for a single use of the device). First, the diagnosis of this problem is very easy; it only takes about 5 minutes for an amateur to perform. Second, use of "the scanner" is not necessary for the diagnosis. Third, charging an additional fee for the use of a particular tool is not legitimate (should I be charged a "wrench fee" or a "screwdriver fee" when those tools are used?). Lastly, I have used "the scanner" many times myself because my ex-boyfriend was a mechanic. As an amateur, it takes me about 10 minutes to connect it and read the OBD codes. It aint rocket science and I'm sure a professional could do it even more quickly. Now onto the excessive parts markup. I bought the first part from a major national parts chain and it cost about $120 for their store brand (they also offered a high end name brand equivalent part for around $175). When I asked GT why their part cost so much more, they told me it was because they used "the good part". Apparently, they bought the high end name brand part and marked it up an additional $100 over the retail price! I wouldn't have a problem with them buying a part at wholesale and marking it up to retail, since they are technically selling it to me, but charging an additional hundred bucks over retail cost is excessive. It's a shame that we have to measure auto repair shops these days by how little or how much they screw you, resigning ourselves that we're going to get screwed by them to some degree. It certainly could have been much worse, but it says something about them that they charged more than twice as much to perform an identical repair on one side of the car than it cost to do on the other, while acknowledging the labor was the same for both jobs. They forgot to put a screw back in. So I spent 3 hours and $65 at another mechanic because I was away from home when the brake lights started blowing up and the abs blinking. They told me exactly what happened. I suspect I was taken before that anyway but that was the only thing I can prove. Super disappointing, back to Tony's and never looking back read more

Had a business trip from Boston to Worcester. Got a flat tire and searched for a family own shop. They replaced my tire in 20 minutes with a new one for a good price. Now I can drive back to Boston without fearing my donut tire will give out on the highway in the freezing rain. Good job! read more

Don't not go to this crappy place.. I got some tires from this place. And the bastards broke my tire pressure sensor and didn't even bother to tell me about it. And when I called to ask about it. The old guy played stupid and acted like I was lying. Don't waste your time or money. These guys will find a way to rip you off. read more

Not a place to go for repairs. I got a battery from them a year ago when mine went. Then less than 3 months later, the batter went. They said it was a bad cell but still charged me $60 in "labor" to replace the battery when they had given me a faulty one. Whatever. Then over the summer my car started over heating, the coolant would spill through the top and onto the engine because the engine was getting too hot. Danny charged me $100 for 2 gallons of coolant and sent me on my way. Was fine for a bout of rainy days then when it got hot again and I turned the ac on it overheated again. Brought it back, was told very rudely that it was probably the head gasket and it would cost $400 just to diagnose and thousands to repair. Decided just not to use the AC. Was fine until December when it over heated again. This time it was blowing cold air even though the heat was all the way up. Took it to another mechanic who actually diagnosed it and took the time to listen to me about what the problem actually was. Turned out it was a clogged radiator from when the previous owner used a sealant to fix a leak that wasn't allowing the coolant to get through and therefore the pressure built and coolant spilled over the top. Now I'm getting my radiator replaced for a fair price and will never go back to grafton tire and auto. read more

I know the people working on my car each time I go in, they've treated me very well and take the time to explain what they did and show me parts they're replacing so I always feel comfortable with their recommendations. I don't feel pressured into unnecessary repairs, they'll let me know if something needs to be done right away or if it can wait. They're also cost- conscious and I know they try to keep repairs affordable. Overall, a great local business run by honest, helpful people. read more

I've been going to Grafton Tire for the past 4 years for all my automotive needs. Bob and Dan are very professional and personable and a pleasure to do business with. There prices are very reasonable and they only sell you the parts you need not like most repair shops. If you make an appointment to have your car repaired you usually can get it back the same day fixed and fixed right at a reasonable price. I had a great experience here. Car wouldn't start in the morning, they were willing to work on it same day, and they had it fixed on the same day. Charged reasonable prices, and took the time to show me the part they replaced and why it was no longer working. They also told me there still may be one more part that might need work, and they would have preferred to keep it one more day to test that out, but they knew I wanted to get it on the road for work the next morning. Car starts fine now, and if something does go wrong it's nice to know I have found a place that will work on it quickly, effectively, and reasonably priced. read more
