I just had Japanese Staightening done at Grace Salon in Somerville and Grace could not have been more wonderful! She spent 4 full hours on my shoulder length frizzy curly wavy Spanish/Italian hair and it came out as straight and soft as silk!! She is so thorough with every step of the process and makes sure to condition your hair as much as is needed. She answered all my questions during and after the process and gave me tips on how to care for my hair. I'm going to Sardinia, Italy in 3 weeks and can't wait to go in and out of the ocean without a hair care in the world!! I highly recommend Grace to anyone interested in Japanese Hair Staightening.

I called for a same day appointment, as the receptionist was able to confirm a time in the afternoon when I called that morning. I arrived a couple minutes early and they were able to start on washing my hair right away as they didn't have other guests. After the wash, Grace (I'm assuming) asked about my hair. I told her I wanted to keep my length but wanted it thinned out. She nodded and quickly got to cutting. I was open to conversation so we made some small talk. Once she was almost finished, a male guest came in for his appointment, so that was good timing. She blew dry my hair and curled it, but didn't show me with a hand mirror what she'd done before curling. I'm not sure if she forgot to or if she doesn't typically do this, as this was my first time here. She had also parted my hair to the side I don't normally use, but my mom said it looks better that way. I think being able to communicate in Korean could've added more to this experience, but she does speak enough English to give a good haircut: I'd gotten exactly what I requested.

Made an wash/cut appointment on a whim after walking by for many years living in Somerville. Was looking for a new hair stylist since the woman I've been going to moved away. Was so happy I went, always had heavy hair and she worked her crazy fast hands magic to somehow lighten the weight, she's super fast, I had wash/cut/dry/styled in 30 min and I loved the result, I couldn't stop playing with my weightless hair for rest of the day. Boyfriend said haircut made me look 10 years younger, bonus. I found my new stylist! English is not her first language but I didn't have problems communicating with her. Although, I just told her to do whatever she wanted.

Grace took this photo for me :) from the front I appear deceptively colorless.

Yay I got my dream haircut! I woke up yesterday and had that fidgety feeling of needing a change. So I took a pair of scissors and chopped off my bangs. After the surge of adrenaline wore off, I realized how difficult the whole endeavor was and biked my way over to Grace Salon for a 9am walk-in. My inspiration was a 20s flapper Karen O hairdo that looked effortlessly chic. I was able to converse with Grace in both English and in Korean and she confided in me that she wished she could communicate more clearly in English. Although Grace has the steely demeanor needed to run her own business, at heart, she is a complete softie :) Halfway through, I had a job interview via phone and Grace was totally cool with me taking an extended phone call. After a while I decided to add a bit of color and fully enter the realm of artsy-fartsy-hipsterism. I talked to Grace about planning to perform open mic at the cafe down the street and she told me to stop by beforehand to say hi. Although I will have to work a few more hours to cover Her Excellency's Work, I feel so fresh, fresh, fresh that I think I'll float through this week (starting a new part-time job so will need that extra surge of energy). Also, she gave me a peanut-butter jelly sandwich and a juicebox which was a yummy, nice gesture. See you next Thursday Grace

This is my fourth time at Grace's Salon. After having failed multiple times trying to find a suitable salon, I have to say, hands-down, Grace's is the place to go if you are looking for a great haircut/trim, perm/straightening, and/or color-treatment for your hair. I've done all three within the five years I've been here in Boston and none others were comparable to here. I am not in any way affiliated with Grace or her place. Here are my honest two-cents below: Pros: 1) Despite what some may say about her styling skills, they are the best in Boston (so far). She's really great with her scissors and when I got the perm and ombre-coloring done, they came out fantastic! I recently got a trim and I've uploaded the results of it if you'd like to check them out (you will also be able to see the ombre still left in my hair). 2) I'm always afraid to go to salons because I feel like they will "rip me off" by talking me into doing more things to my hair. But not Grace. She's pretty honest and gets to the point. A few other Yelpers below may have commented on her brusque-ness in manner and talk, but that's just a cultural thing (or maybe personality, haha, but everyone's different, right?). If you are not Korean (meaning, recently from Korea) or don't have much knowledge about the culture, then Grace's attitude may bother you, but it's not because she wants to be rude to her customers. It seems like English is still hard on her, but I appreciate the fact that she tries to improve. Anyways, she may "offer" to try different things with your hair, but she's never been forceful. 3) Treats! Sometimes she offers her customers food! :) Who can deny yummy-in-the-tummy? Cons: 1) Waiting-time? It may be that there is a shortage of "helpers" there and since she is the main hairdresser. For instance, sometimes, there are times where I just sort of unnecessarily sit there waiting for her to finish on another when she had originally started with me. 2) Cleanliness? Someone mentioned about previous people's "hair on the floor." I'm not too picky about these things, because I understand it's hard to keep things in an orderly fashion when you're the only employer around, but when it's raining or snowing outside and she asks you to sit in a chair where there are other people's hair on the floor, sometimes it gets stuck to my shoes/boots because of the rain and well, it was a bit yucky :P Not a big deal though. *NOTE 1: There is another employer there, Mamatha, and she's wonderful. She's a Nepali, just in case you wanted to know :) *NOTE 2: Price may seem to be pricey at times, but it is ...Boston :/ In that sense, it's just average, I guess. At least, you'll be pleased with your results! Thanks, Grace and Mamatha. Will be back again soon!

It's now the day after and my skin feels dull, unlike facials I've received at other businesses. If I had gotten the $80 microexfoliation add on maybe this would be different but I had a double cleanse, exfoliant, extractions and moisturizer that just didn't satisfy me. The extractions focused on my nose and were more painful than those I've experienced before. I had an active breakout on my cheek that I was surprised to have popped while congestion on my chin was left unaddressed. Red light therapy was gifted to me but I think if not I would've left with a very irritated and flushed face. While treatments/products were sitting on my face, I have a feeling my facialist was just sitting on her phone rather than giving a massage or anything. Overall this felt like a budget experience meriting a cost of maybe $70 tops for the less than 45 minutes I was in the chair. I'm giving this two stars rather than one only because they were able to accommodate me and a guest at the end of the day on short notice (called at noon and seen at 4), and I want to give the benefit on the doubt that service is better toward regular customers. Given this is a chain I would recommend patronizing a smaller salon with further trained estheticians.

I've never seen Dr. Sandhu and she's not in the office - I know for a fact because one day when I went the practice was unlocked just for me and it was by a laser tech, Francyne (whom I love). Since it's just laser I'm not really fussed about this but I would certainly want her in if I had some sort of procedure or filler done.

After the procedure, the aesthetician blamed the machine/equipments for malfunctions. I then went to see Dr. Sandhu, and she BLAMED ME for getting burned because I was SWEATING. Both times, I was being lied to about what went wrong and who was at fault. At the time of the appointment I didn't know what to expect from the whole procedure. It was only when I went to a different medical spa, that also had TruscupltID, was I told the truth about the whole incident. I told the nurse my whole experience with Neem Spa, and she told me exactly what happened: The aesthetician left the grounding pad on 1 area for too long. To reduce risk of burning she was suppose to change the location of the grounding pad for each targeted area. So she was suppose to change the location of grounding pad 3 times because I was treating 3 different areas(my stomach, flanks, and arms). Dr. Sandhu refused to give me a full refund and still denies any negligence on her staff's part of the procedure.

The first incident happened during a Clear + Brilliant appointment. I was left sitting with numbing cream on my face for an entire hour before I finally went into the nurse's office to ask if I had been forgotten. She apologized, and while she was kind, I lost an hour of my time. I chose not to leave a review because I assumed she was simply overbooked, and I didn't want to blame an individual for what seemed like a scheduling issue. Unfortunately, today's experience confirmed that the problem is with LaserAway's organization. I arrived for my 11:00 a.m. appointment only to find out the clinic wasn't opening until noon because a nurse couldn't come in until later. The issue isn't that something unexpected happened--it's that no one communicated this to me beforehand. They admitted they should have notified me, but by then I had already driven there and rearranged my day. As an athlete, I can only schedule these treatments on my one day off each week because I can't work out for 24 hours afterward. Morning appointments are already extremely difficult to book, so having one wasted because of poor communication is incredibly frustrating. What disappoints me most isn't just the mistakes--it's how they're handled. Both times I received an apology, but there was no meaningful effort to make things right. Good customer service isn't about never making mistakes; it's about how you respond when you do. The only reason I continue coming here is because I prepaid for my treatments. Once I've used them all, I won't be returning. If you're looking for a place to start laser or skincare treatments, I would recommend choosing a local clinic that values your time and communicates with its clients. Based on my experience, LaserAway has been disorganized, unprofessional, and disappointing.

The technicians did a good job, and I was happy with the final results. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not match the premium prices being charged. If you're positioning yourself as a luxury salon, the entire customer experience should reflect that. The salon floor had nail clippings scattered around, which made the space feel unclean, and the restroom toilet was not working during my visit. The salon was very busy, so there was a long wait between my manicure and pedicure. While I understand that delays can happen, I was simply left sitting without any communication or updates. A quick explanation or estimate of the wait would have gone a long way. It also seemed that the salon could benefit from stronger management and additional support staff. The technicians appeared focused on providing services, but there didn't seem to be anyone dedicated to keeping the salon clean, assisting customers, or ensuring that operations ran smoothly. The quality of the manicure and pedicure is why I'm giving this salon a positive review overall. However, improving cleanliness, communication, and customer service would make the experience much more consistent with the prices they charge.
