    Papi bowling

Grace Point Place has been my 95 year old dad's home for over a year. My dad has dementia and I tried having him in my home, and neither of us was successful. The staff are always very friendly and are always happy to see my dad. My dad is very lively. I have seen the wonderful staff, sing dance and lately take him on outings. Latrice is in charge of resident outings. She has been gracious enough to allow my dad to participate in baseball outings and now takes him bowling. My dad was a great bowler. He may not remember that evening that he bowled in the morning, but in that moment, the joy was there. I am so grateful for these kind-hearted souls that have made this their life passion. Thank you, Latrice and all the Grace Point staff, for taking such great care of my Papi.

Bad news! This place is horrible. They don't take good care of the residents, the food is horrible, many of the staff members are rude, they do not properly toilet their residents and they do not provide ANY engaging activities. Please find someplace else for your loved one.

The Chiquita label was my only clue as to what the heck this thing was, adhered to the sock with a dryer sheet too.

Do I have to give it any stars at all? This place is a mess. My grandma was there for less than 3 months and she fell at least 4x (as reported) but two of those sent her to the ER for stitches, CT scans, you name it. She looked like she'd been in a boxing ring. They have no idea how she fell, even though she was listed as a fall risk when we sent her there, paid nearly 6k per month for the highest level of care and still got basic nursing home care. We took her out after the 3rd month and only because we had to give a 30 day notice. They never said they couldn't handle her, just kept taking that check and failing us as a family and her as a client. False teeth broken after 50 years and they didn't even tell us. That just cost us a few thousand to replace. But that's not all...swollen feet and legs always, even though we told them to keep them elevated. Their answer was to keep putting knee socks (not compression socks) on her and shoes that were too small on her swollen feet (even though we bought her new ones). They do not listen to the family. The staff was inexperienced and the nursing care was nonexistent. She came home smelly, dirty, and unable to walk. Even her purse was nasty, with food inside, her nails were unkempt and she had a sock in her clean laundry that had apparently been washed and dried, but it had a banana in it! I'll post the pic. It took me a few minutes to figure out exactly what the hard black thing was inside her sock. She was still wearing an old hospital bracelet which had dead skin and dirt in it once we took it off of her. Adhesive from an EKG 3 weeks prior. Did I mention dirty and PUTRID smelling with spots on her skin all over that weren't there before. Even her belly button had some type of skin infection because the area around it was pink, like the skin had come off. Extremely dry skin. They do not bathe your loved ones, the food is old, cold, and sparse. After returning from one of her ER visits, they served her an orange, a cup of old mandarin oranges (yes, you read that right) cold eggs and a piece of cold toast with a cold pat of butter sitting on top. You guys just sent her to the ER--what a way to welcome her back. There's so much more, but I'll just end with the unmonitored pressure sore that they didn't even say anything about. It was deep into her flesh but we couldn't see it because it was covered with skin. It looked like a bruise to me and why not? She was covered in dark marks, dry skin, and scars from falling, so why not bruises? You'd think constant monitoring by medical staff would have seen it, right? You'd think they would let us know that something was going on, maybe advise us to follow up with her doctor? Nope. Not a word. Well, let's just say that she ended up in the hospital because once the skin fell off we realized it was an active sore, that she did NOT enter the facility with! It was extremely deep and spread quickly. She's in bad shape thanks to the negligence of this "Memory Care Facility" that charges upwards of $5000 a month for a high level of care that they don't provide. Some of these pictures were probably already posted by my Mom in her review but they are authentic. I can't even post the really bad ones--not here to gross anyone out, just giving an honest review of the facility.

Another view of her eye injury.

I'm writing this review to warn families who may be considering placing a loved one in this…read morefacility. What my family experienced was heartbreaking, unsafe, and completely unacceptable. During my elderly mother's stay at the Sunrise Senior Living Community in Palos Hills, IL., we encountered repeated instances of neglect, unsanitary conditions, and gross mismanagement. She was found multiple times in the middle of the night unattended -- once placed on a urine-soaked couch with furniture positioned around her, and another time sitting stiffly upright in a chair, without socks or shoes, as if she were a display. When questioned, staff gave conflicting and inadequate explanations. We also witnessed a persistent ant infestation in her room, which staff failed to address despite multiple reports. The situation grew so bad that we had to demand a room change after three weeks of inaction. Even then, the Executive Director initially resisted our request, only to later offer another room at the same rate -- raising serious concerns about honesty and integrity. My mother was confined to a wheelchair for nearly four weeks due to an undiagnosed urinary tract infection -- something the Director of Nursing completely overlooked. Despite visible signs of physical decline, it was our family -- not the staff -- who suggested that she be tested. She tested positive immediately. Within 36 hours of leaving this facility, my mother was walking again. This level of incompetence and indifference is inexcusable. She also sustained an injury that went untreated. When asked about it, the staff simply said "she fell," without offering any further explanation or medical follow-up. The wound worsened over time and scabbed without care. The facility itself is not secure -- I was able to enter after hours on multiple occasions without being stopped, questioned, or asked for ID. This lack of oversight puts all residents at risk. To make matters worse, several of my mother's personal belongings -- including clothing -- were stolen during her time at the facility. Despite repeated requests, these items were never returned, and we've received no accountability or reimbursement to date. Sunrise personnel also stole her mattresses and bedspring. We were forced to file a police report to have this matter addressed. SMH Throughout this ordeal, communication was inconsistent and unprofessional. I requested all contact be conducted via email or certified letter, but staff -- including the Executive Director -- repeatedly disregarded this, continuing to call me directly despite clear boundaries being set. She was actually calling me from 3-4 different phone numbers. Very immature as you can see. We have filed formal complaints with state authorities and law enforcement. I strongly urge families to conduct extensive research and consider this experience before entrusting your loved one to this facility. What we endured has taken a heavy emotional toll -- one no family should ever have to go through. I included a pic of my mom. unattended, laying on a urine saturated couch, restricted by two chars serving as barriers at 12 am. Made a surprise visit and this is where I found her....trust me, you never want to experience anything like this. Came back the following night and found the same. Terrin is an asset to Sunrise. During the holidays throughout the year they have family acctivities which we join in when we can. It's like a big happy family there and they treat you like that!
