When there was some harness fraying a couple of months later, they didn't hesitate to fix the problem. Not only did I receive excellent customer service, but I could see other customers being treated the same way. This isn't a place to go if you are looking for the cheapest equipment on the market. This is where you go if you want to speak with people who know what they are selling, will take the time to answer your questions, and will stand behind their products. They are relocating next door to a larger space and are still open while relocating. I will for sure be visiting again soon.

911 Police Supply is one of those unique stores that there is rarely ever any real competition…read more The reason why? The specific market it caters to is very unique, primarily first responders. Owned and operated by 2 police officers, they are extremely well stocked in uniforms, footwear, tools and the like used by EMS/Fire/Police/Security and so on, complete with restrictions on a good deal of the merchandise (requiring a licence to obtain such as body armor). In addition, they carry a fair amount of items for the general security crowd such as metal detectors and so on, plus a great selection of high end utility knives. The only real issue about this store is simply that they are quite pricey. Some markups are notably in the 300-500% range as compared to other stores, and I mean bricks and mortar stores, not online. As another Yelper mentioned, there really isn't any competition whatsoever, with MD Charlton in Vancouver being the closest equiviant as Spy City tends to specialize more for security staff and Seal Action Gear more torwards the military crowd. This was not a large purchase, but to have a customer leave without compensating a staff error says a great deal. Kananaskis Outfitters is one of the only companies that rents canoes in the area on site rather…read morethan for self-transport. Since we do not have a roof rack, this was a must. You can find them in the Barrier Lake parking lot starting at 10am until 6pm every day renting out canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. Getting there early is a must. All items are rented on a first-come, first-served basis. We got there at 9:30am on a Tuesday morning and there were already two groups ahead of us in line. The rental fee for a canoe also includes paddles and lifejackets. Everything is cleaned between customers and the boat was in good repair. My only complaint in regards to safety was ironically with the safety discussion. The staff member decided to give a group talk rather than one-by-one which was fine but she encouraged us all to group up close. There were more than 20 people present and some of them were not respectful of social distancing. I ended up having to move a fair distance away to feel safe.

Sidenote: It's still hard to beat U.S. prices (as online shoppers up here know), but due to the somewhat recent border law changes regarding assisted / manual opening knives (I have strong opinions about that, which I will not get into here), many of the cutlery retailers in the States have ceased cross-border shipping. So for the majority of us law-abiding residents, we need to purchase these items solely through Canadian retailers. I'm all for supporting local businesses but not a fan of being forced to do so... more options are always good for consumers. Anyway, Target Knives miraculously had a discontinued multi-tool that I was looking for (one left in stock), which was quite amazing since the model has been discontinued for several years now. I seriously think I purchased the last one in Canada, at least online! My order arrived quickly and was packaged securely. I didn't receive any email confirmation / tracking info after ordering, which I attributed to the online e-commerce system for a small store. Hopefully this is something they will start doing once their online sales become more frequent. From their online selection (haven't visited the store yet), it appears Target Knives's purpose is aimed toward daily-use EDC / survival gear. Don't expect to find high-end or ultra-custom cutlery online here (Benchmade is probably the highest brand they carry online, which is definitely quite good), but for mid-range and below, Target Knives has a good spread for a small shop. You might find some hard-to-locate gems such as the multi-tool I purchased... and as mentioned, great prices on many of their products. Honestly, dependable mid-range gear is better for EDC anyway IMHO since I hate messing up super expensive gear during daily tasks. But hey, if you've got the money for it, more power to you. It looks like from other reviewers that Target Knives also carries some eclectic products in store, such as swords and fantasy collector items. I didn't see these online, but there are displays of them shown in the store photos. Pretty cool... I will definitely be stopping by during my next Calgary trip to check this place out!

I didn't know if I would have any luck since it's a knife shop, but let me tell you this place is a Mecca for knife and out door tool people. There is tons of stock, he had three of the tool I wanted! Very eclectic little shop, and the owner is very helpful and knowledgable. Canada needs more of these home grown mom and pop shops. And literally everything I browsed while there was well below any discounted prices I saw online. Even Amazon! One word of warning, come here fully prepared to stay a good amount of time, because this place is loaded with great stuff.
