First impressions... WAY too overstocked, WAY too disorganized and little knowledge of what exactly they have on hand. If you can't find it yourself, and chances are you won't be able to, then I doubt very much if the people there will know if it even exists. Sure they have a stock program but while I was there they were talking about a customer inquiry about a certain item and 2 of the gentlemen said they didn't have it, yet 1 other gentleman said they had multiple... Personally avoid if you can, the claustrophobia and fear of getting buried alive isn't worth it. Go someplace else! read more

Great little shop crammed full with the inventory of the big shops. Seriously, they have kits and other products I'm every nook and cranny of the place. The prices are pretty typical of a specialty shop, so don't expect sweet deals and savings, however do expect friendly expert service; have a question, go ahead and ask. Wow, where to begin? First off, I'll say that I'm not a model or RC car enthusiast. Merely a person looking for a product with multiple applications that these stores typically stock. That product is Team Associated 100,000 cst Silicone Fluid. I'll be using it as damping fluid for my SME 3009 Series III tone arm. I phoned Model Land and spoke with the owner Garrett. Upon inquiring if he had this variant of the product in stock, he seemed very confused. First he said he didn't have any in stock, then he did, then he didn't. A few seconds later he said he thought did, Lol. I presumed he was either looking at inventory on the computer, or actually searching the shelves. Once Garrett confirmed he had the product, he asked if I'd like the part number. I said "sure, I just need to grab a pen". He then read me a number of #5465 (which was wrong) that I wrote down next to 100,000 cst on my pad of paper. I made a second phone call to the store about 20 minutes later and asked Garrett if he also had the 200,000 cst silicone fluid in stock. After a moment he confirmed that he did. I thought I might try both viscosities to see which worked best. Eventually it became clear, Garrett doesn't know the difference between 100,000 (100K), and 1,000,000 (1Million). This explains his confusion during our phone conversation and his reciting the incorrect part number. During that conversation he read me the aforementioned part number from the 1 Million fluid bottle, believing it to be 100,000. I found out after our Model Land ordeal the correct product number for the 100,000 cst is 5459. So pad of paper in hand (with incorrect part number provided by Garrett), my wife and I head over to Model Land. When we arrive, the two older fellows behind the counter were busy helping customers. As I'd only spoken with Garrett on the phone I had no idea what he looked like. A young man began talking to us. I assumed he was an employee. I asked him where they stocked the silcone fluids. Turns out this guy wasn't staff, just a customer but very friendly. He lead us to the back counter where an employee was standing. I briefly explained to this employee what I was looking for, and the type of application (tone arm). He looked at me sideways, and literally threw/dropped the large box of products on the counter in front of me. Very rude. Nevertheless, I sorted through the box and found the correct fluid 100,000 cst. I then proceeded to the front counter. Garrett was finished with his customer, looked at me and said "I have the silicone fluid you want right here". He presented a bottle of 1000,000 cst (1 million cst). I told him it was the wrong viscosity, what I wanted was 100,000 cst, and that I had made this very clear to him over the phone. To which he replied "how many zeroes are in 100,000?" I was a bit surprised that he would ask this. I replied "five". A look of utter confusion came over Garrett's face. I handed him the piece of paper I'd written the information on during our telephone conversation. He looked at the part number I had written down next to 100,000 cst which was 5465... Now remember, it was Garrett who recited this part number to me over the phone in the first place. He compared what I had on my paper to the part number on his bottle of 1,000,000 cst (1 Million cst) and said "hmm, that's not right. The part number you've written here next to 100,000 cst (100K) corresponds to this product" while holding up a bottle of 1 million viscosity! I just shook my head and thought to myself "is this guy for real?" I told him the reason the part number didn't correspond was because he recited it to me over the phone while reading from the wrong bottle. By this point he's embarrassed and becoming rude. I was pretty much done with this guy. But remember, along with the 100,000 cst I also wanted the 200,000 cst. After-all, during our second telephone conversation Garret assured me he had some in stock. I thought perhaps he'd placed that up at the front counter for me, the same way he placed and held the bottle of 1 million cst (yikes!). No such luck, as by this point I'm sure Garrett must have figured out how many zeroes are in 200,000. The other bottle he placed on hold for me was probably of the 20,000 cst variety, Lol. I should also point out that during all of this, Garret wasn't wearing a face mask. He had it hanging from one ear. Keeping in mind, at this point in time it's mandatory that face coverings be worn within stores by all staff and customers due to COVID 19. Both myself, my wife, other staff and patrons were wearing masks. I asked Garret "why aren't you wearing a mask?" To which he a laughed, coughed, and sputtered an unintelligible reply. I then told him he's setting a very poor example for others in his store and that was that. Never have I had an experience quite like this. This store is also disorganized, over-stocked, and the staff are clueless regarding the products they sell. Oh yeah, and very rude. read more

By far my #1 favorite hobby store in Calgary. When it comes to RC parts, accessories and selection, they are the leaders. The staff here is very polite and knowledgeable. And when it comes to a guy like me that always comes in asking a million questions or doesn't know his part numbers, they are very patient. AH and PM always make you feel very rushed, unwelcome and on edge the entire time your talking to one of their employees. Model land does not, and everyone is welcome. With over 170 different airplane models and over 150 different plastic model kits, chances are that if you can't find it here, it's because it doesn't exist. Particularly those that dig on radio controlled models- which they have a massive inventory of. Due to the size of the store and the amount of product the isles become crowded. Its kinda cool though. Definitely a one of a kind store as far as setup wise. I made a deal with the owner on a gas powered R/C truck. It was bagged up with spares and accessories. Over $400 altogether. When I went back the next day to pick it up, he took it out of the bag and started stripping all the extras. Then he insisted that was the deal we made. Worst bait and switch ever. I walked into Model Land today ready to drop $2000 on a new 4 rotor heli. While I was waiting in line I overheard the owner's conversation with an RC single rotor heli enthusiast. The part of the conversation that stuck out to me was: Owner: "What do you think of these guys buying drones?" Client that just spent $500: "They're gay." Owner: "Yep, I only stock them because they make me money." The owner then went on to rant about how most people who bought the drones were idiots and how it was only going to take one drone flying into a jet liner to make the whole business of RC heli's illegal. He said "I dare transport Canada to fine me and confiscate my equipment. Tell them to come and do it." Shame on you sirs. Shame on you. I bought a $139.00 drone a couple of days ago, flew it once in the house, decided I would like to upgrade to something better. Willing to spend another couple hundred dollars. Because I had it out of the box and flew it once, there was no returning it. Basically a no return policy even though I was not happy with what they sold me. Never shopping here again. Awesome store, great staff, and always seem to have the paint or supplies I need to finish my projects. Been going to this store for advice and kits both static display and R/C cars and trucks for over 20 years. No matter what I need they always seem to have it or will get it in the quickest amount of time and inform once its in the door. Highly recommend Model Land. Will always deal with them. read more
