Is this the best board game store in town? Maybe. Maybe not. I haven't been to every single board game store in Calgary. But I'll tell you this: They have an awesome c of board games. Whoever is doing the selection for what they carry is an obvious enthusiast. They carry all the newest and best things. They quickly restock games from the top lists of Board Game Geek. They make room for the biggest, most ridiculous games like Gloomhaven and other "big box" stuff. They're also priced extremely competitively. While they can't necessarily match Amazon for every price, they certainly do with most of their stuff. They have a lot of games Amazon Canada doesn't carry. read more

Oh man do I wish I was a kid again... and stores like this don't help either! Discovery Hut is full of so much cool stuff I wish I could buy, but then I realize I'm a grown up and it would be weird if I had all that kid's stuff. Even so, that doesn't mean I don't love browsing around in this totally awesome store. It really does bring me back to my younger days. Every time I have to buy a present for a kid, I make Discovery Hut my first stop! It's just such a cute little place to shop, and I'm sure real kids love it too. I like that they have a bunch of learning games and toys, as well. It promotes a smarter, more fun way of learning for youngins they won't even realize they are learning. There are so many colours and objects, it's sure to be stimulating to any age. Plus, even if you are an adult, you'll probably find something to bring the kid out in you! I know I can! read more

Something in me thought Discovery Hut was a chain. Perhaps it's the fact that it's in Chinook Centre. At any rate, it isn't. It's not exactly your small indie games style shop like you might find in other parts of town. But then again, I doubt very much a place like that would survive in Chinook. It's full of puzzles and games, all kinds of toys to keep children of all ages (even you!) occupied for a long time. My favourite part of the store is the wall of tin lunch boxes. One of these days I'm going to come home with one. Today I stopped in to find some games suitable for passersby. The gentleman who helped me out had a variety of suggestions for me that were all within my price range from these cool little magnetic balls to nostalgic games I played as a kid. Never buy from this store. We bought a $200 Pokémon box one of the main cards was defective and already opened. So was the rest of the accessories inside. The floor manager said we somehow made the card and rest of accessories defective and refused to return or exchange it. That particular card pack was opened and they said the box was shaken up during the transportation and that's what happens sometimes. If you are a person who buy collectable items, please don't buy from this store. I truest believe they sell counterfeit products. This is such a great store. It's fun with music playing and so many games, models, and puzzles. Kids are so glued to technology and it's refreshing to see a place that still has imaginative items where you can use your hands and brain. We usually come here for puzzles as they have really high quality from Wasgij and the prices are really fair. My wife just lights up when we come here. read more

I bought a set of Mexican train ($85) last Friday and opened the package the same night, found out it's repackaged item and has lots of wears. I went back to store the day after and they don't let me return or exchange, the manager said that there is "nothing" wrong with it and suggested that I had chance to play it for hours and made the wears myself. One visit to this store and you revert right back to being 4 years old again. And who DOESN"T wish they could be a kid again sometimes. I mean, all the toys, all the fun and none of the worries? I just had to check The Discovery Hut out finally. This store rocks! They have toys of all ages. There is a great selection of board games. I found a Halo Risk version, which I had to have. It was $60, but it is so wicked it was worth it! I found Bert and Ernie hand puppets that I just had to get for my friends little guy! The quality of them was excellent and they were only $25 each, which I didn't find to be too bad! There are so many cool things here, collectibles, hobby kits, baby toys, sock monkeys. I didn't even go into the back of the store, so who knows what cool stuff they have back there! This is a wicked place to come for any toys you need, especially for unique gifts and games! I love this store and will often brave Chinook Centre (even on a weekend) just to get here. I'd describe this place as simply awesome, but that doesn't do it justice. I learned about Discovery Hut while looking for Kid Robot vinyl art and collectibles and this place has a great selection. They also have a great supply of plush and other vinyl art, and are so very up to date on new releases. DH also has more games than I could ever play, but I'm willing to try. The Playmobil selection makes me wish I were younger so I could start my collection all over again from scratch. The lunch boxes are adorable and very, very tempting. I can't really speak to the toys for younger kids, but I see a lot of variety. Even better than the products are the staff. Not only are they very helpful and well-informed, they're enthusiastic without being pushy. This place is going to clean me out, but I'll be broke and happy! eta: If you are a serious Kid Robot collector, I recommend following the Discovery Hut on Facebook. They post about new stock and it's especially helpful to know about limited products that they bring in. read more

Oh wow! I loved this store before they moved, and love it even more now! With not too much effort, you can easily find fun things for kids of all ages. There is just so much stuff, you can't help but play with some of it. Games; stuffies (stuffed animals); puzzles; toys; LEGO; and much more! Just go in and have fun. AWESOME Store! The staff are always friendly, the CEO frequently visits and checks up on the progress and the selection of items are huge. They have everything from board games to ray guns, pop figures, puzzles, candy bacon and more. The only thing I find is some items are a little pricey for what they are. Overall though it's the best store in Chinook mall and a regular favourite of mine as a geek adult. read more

I love this store. It is one that I wander into when looking for a cool kids present or even if I just have some time to kill. I also recently found some great "prizes" for co-workers here. The Discovery Hut has a great selection of toys and games for kids of all ages (including my co-workers) at a range of prices. Whether you are looking for a bit of a gag gift, a collectable item or an intellectual activity for your child, they probably have it. I find their prices to be fair. They aren't the cheapest place in town but I've also found items there that were less than I was expecting to pay. They have a good mix of popular, quality toy brands and some independent, smaller manufacturers too which is nice. I much prefer shopping here over the big box toy competition. Their staff are also pretty awesome. They are quick to ask if you need help and can offer some great advice regardless of who you are shopping for. They all seem to love working there, even at crazy busy times like Christmas. It can get a little crowded so if you hate shopping in those conditions, just pick a less busy mall time (weeknights are good). Give yourself some time either way though as they have a lot of neat stuff to check out! read more

Great little shop in Chinook Centre full of fun things for everyone. It's a rather busy and chaotic store so I'd recommend trying to come in on a slow day. I come down here for the stuff that you can't really find a lot of in the rest of the city, like Gloomy Bear, Tokidoki, blind boxes, etc. The only real downfall of this store is that I find some of their goods overpriced. Many of the action figures and statues cost much more than at local comic shops and some of their board games are pricey too. Overall it's a great little shop to check out, especially if you want to find unique items and kids toys from Europe. read more

Stay a way from this store, just bought a lego and paid 180$ and once opened the parts have not matched the assembly instructions and some parts were missing. It was a birthday present to my son and he was realy upset about that. I came back to the store asking to return the lego and get fully refunded ,however they refused for a refund claiming that the box has been opened, even though that I came a few hours after an actual purchase. Very bad service, would suggest to my friends to stay a way from that store.They are not ready to take a responsability for what they sell. read more

Used to like this store. Easy to get to in the mall, great toys. However the friendly staff quickly turns sour when refusing you a refund. They have a list of exceptions on refunds even though the receipt says 60 days for full refund with receipt. Tried to return an item the day after purchase and was refused. Very disapointed. Worst customer service ever! I was trying to exchange for a bought broken toy without a receipt because my teething baby chew and tear it! And this guy refused exchange because of no receipt shown and accused me that the toy is opened which must been played around for a year! DUH! I wouldn't know the toy is broken until I OPEN it!!! We bought this Finding Dorry Shell Collection Game from this store, it is like fishing game, you use a fish pole to fish the shells. But it was spinning so fast, and you can hardly catch the shells. So we only played for once and I brought it back two days later with the intact package hoping to get it returned. It was this unprofessional, cocky and careless manager, checked the box and said,' I am sorry, it was opened, we cannot returned it'. What kind of store policy is that? What kind of attitude is that? Where is the customer service? So you are saying every toys sold in your store cannot be opened to checked if there are functional after we buy them? Not to mention that the game we bought we was intact and fine. I just want my money back, besides I am not happy with the customer service. So I argued with the manager, and he even asked me to leave and said I am not welcomed.
