Whoever is doing the selection for what they carry is an obvious enthusiast. They carry all the newest and best things. They quickly restock games from the top lists of Board Game Geek. They make room for the biggest, most ridiculous games like Gloomhaven and other "big box" stuff. They're also priced extremely competitively. While they can't necessarily match Amazon for every price, they certainly do with most of their stuff. They have a lot of games Amazon Canada doesn't carry.

I found myself spending more time checking out games in the middle of the store. There were a lot I've never seen before and a few would be really great for parties because they are simple and don't require a board. The staff person didn't address me at all and mostly hung out in the store entrance, watching the mall folk. It seemed a little weird. You certainly won't encounter a pushy salesman here. Games People Play is, like I said, a fan-flippin-tastic store that carries not only every game you played growing up, but every game you've imagined, desired and craved. For instance, they carry a selection of Monopoly games that I hadn't even dreamt of. I'm talkin' 'Chocolate-Opoly', 'Brew-Opoly' and 'Dino-Opoly'. Where else are you going to find a million different kinds of one of your favourite childhood games? Plus do you remember the glow-in-the-dark stars and planets we used to post on our ceilings growing up? Well, this place has got those, along with puzzles, card games, board games and cribbage galore. The staff is ouber helpful and it's hard not to spend hours on end here reliving your childhood. I absolutely love this store. The next time I'm hosting a party, ALL the entertainment will be courtesy of this gem of a store.

You won't find Monopoly here, but you will find the popular games that many of the large toy stores don't carry like Dominion, Munchkin, Catan, etc. On the back wall there is a solid selection of Ravensberger puzzles and in the front corner of the store has a healthy comic book rack. The far side of the store contains Warhammer paraphernalia. They have three tables set up with terrain along the far wall. The majority of the Warhammer stock is 40K so if you're a base player, you'll find the selection limited. I overheard the owner talking to some customers that he likes to hear what people are talking about before he orders stock in so if you want something, ask.

These guys have all you standard product lines that the big guys don't necessarily carry a lot of, if any, like Melissa & Doug. They have board games of the standard variety, nothing out of the ordinary. Though there is a decent product selection here, the store seems pretty bare. Everything is lined along the walls with a few free-standing displays along the perimeter. I wasn't overly impressed with the store, but at the same time there's nothing necessarily wrong with it, other than that it doesn't seem like they're maximizing their square footage. This store is so well laid out, I am not a comic expert but I do know a well organised and easy to find lay out. There is an area, just dedicated to Marvel, to the Hulk, to Trekkie fans, to Star wars fans, to Walt Disney fans. There is also a very nice selection of collectible comic books hanging behind the cashier's desk, the top row being hard to get comics from the 40s. WOW. I was absolutely thrilled to find this location which is in fact the only location in Calgary so if you have a comic obsession you know what dimension to beam yourself to.
