This new hobby shop has opened where the old dollar store used to be. The store is simple with a fresh coat of paint and new fixtures. A large chunk of the store is board games. You won't find Monopoly here, but you will find the popular games that many of the large toy stores don't carry like Dominion, Munchkin, Catan, etc. On the back wall there is a solid selection of Ravensberger puzzles and in the front corner of the store has a healthy comic book rack. The far side of the store contains Warhammer paraphernalia. They have three tables set up with terrain along the far wall. The majority of the Warhammer stock is 40K so if you're a base player, you'll find the selection limited. Started a small comic file here a couple years back, the staff here are always helpful and great to chat with. They put on good deals for comics they really believe in and will recommend books based on your tastes. They have an account credit system that rewards you points with every purchase. I was able to save up enough points to by myself a nice hardcover artist edition of the Archie Goodwin/Walt Simonson adaptation of Alien. The points system is a great incentive to reward patronage. The board games section is fantastic and they know their stuff quite well, I've pretty much bought all my board games from here since I discovered the place. When it comes to FLGS (Friendly local gaming stores), this one takes the cake. No lie, I drive from Edmonton to here to pick up my models and games. The owner is VERY polite, allows you to do orders over the phone and ensures that everything is perfect. He does offer free shipping to Edmonton (I think all of Alberta but don't quote me on that one just yet) but the atmosphere he creates makes the trip worth it. Trying to find that hard to find game, ie Firestorm Armada? Then this is your place to go! Can't say enough good things about this place. They have a generous points system, they offer a good deal on the U.S. cover price exchange rate, and they will special order comics for you that you're interested in. I've been getting more and more into board games over the last year, and so when I started looking for a board game store near me I was delighted to see Imaginary Wars pop up. I visited the store and was absolutely mesmerized. The selection of games in this store is astounding! All of the top rated games from every reviewer and podcast are here, including some extremely hard to find games and even kickstarters. It's a small store, but very well laid out with more than just board games. They have comics, memorabilia, and plenty of miniatures. The staff is always friendly and they're loyalty program is generous in my opinion. They also host events nearly every night of the week (I have yet to attend one, but their games tables always have players so I assume they'd be a good time!). Because I'm new to the hobby I held off writing a review until I'd seen more stores. Now that I've been to three others, I'll always come back to Imaginary Wars and look forward to every visit. EDIT: I should also mention that when I couldn't find a game I wanted, the owner gladly ordered it for me and called as soon as it arrived (about a week and a half wait). read more
