I see a lot of negative reviews. My experience has been great, I have been able to chat and ask questions to my hearts content. Not only are the individuals that were working there really helpful they seemed genuinely interested in what I was saying and asking. They have everything I am looking for and a few things I didn't know I was looking for. They have one of the better RC car and truck selections around as far as I can tell. They have plenty of upgrade and repair parts on hand and deal directly with a few of the larger aftermarket manufacturers. As with any hobby shop things aren't cheap but they aren't unexpectedly expensive either and again, as far as I can tell... they have some of the better prices to be found in the area. Anyways, the shop is by my office and any time I've gone in there it has been positive experience. Unless things are other than they seem or they change, I'll continue to shop there. read more

Didn't even know Action Hobby existed until discovering it on Google. I see many negative reviews however my experience was very positive. The women was very helpful in answering all my questions and supplied me with what I was looking for to repair my RC truck. read more

One day, I decided to fulfill a childhood dream. I became determined to purchase an awesome radio controlled vehicle. I was convinced this would become the center of my entertainment world. I would use it daily, I told myself. It would be, awesome. And so I arrived at Action Hobby, ready to purchase my DuraTrax Evader EXT. For those not familiar with the world of R/C, the Evader is one of the most successful lines of electric radio controlled vehicles. They are very popular due to their ability to take a beating and the relative cheap pricing and easy availability of parts. Action Hobby has a large selection of items and carries an impressive collection of different parts. Although I already knew what I wanted, I took a look around anyway and found a host of items I would gladly purchase if I had a money tree in my backyard. The folks at Action Hobby were very helpful, even offering me advice on battery options and maintenance. They were equally helpful when I returned a few short weeks later to replace an axle that was destroyed during a small accident with a parking slab (at full speed, I clipped a back tire on the slab). As for the truck, it was awesome! With a top speed around 30 km/h, this thing is no slouch. For an electric, it's about as fast as you can find. Has it become the center of my entertainment world? Alas, it has not. Shortly after moving into our new house, which is directly behind huge lots of undeveloped land, I broke a small gear and haven't had time to replace it. But don't worry, this spring I will use it, hopefully for more than a day (ah, boys and our toys). read more

Once again made to feel like a shoplifter, when I picked up an item and went to look for the other things I had come for. Really too bad as the store has a lot of things I do buy. . Went elsewhere. I've spent a lot of money in this store over the years, but really can't justify it anymore. I'll drive further to PM, or Modeland. This has gone on for years and seemingly won't change. This store is one of three hobby shops in the City. It is neat and organized (unlike one of the other three) and they almost always have the parts or pieces that I am looking for (unlike the other shop)! The best part is if they don't have what you need they will order and bring it in quickly. This is my "go to" hobby shop. read more

Worst experience ever, I bought a plug, took it home and it broke instantly upon plugging it in. I went to return it and he took the item and did not give me a refund which i noticed upon leaving after buying a different item. He make a fuss about the item left in working condition and i said yes and it broke when i tried to use it. Stand by your product. He was very rude. I will never be giving business to this store again. The owner had a can't be bothered attitude. read more

Bought an RC car for my Son and the first day we managed to break the gears. I went back to the shop the following day and the owner took the time to tell me what was wrong, how to fix it and he also grabbed a new gear from his inventory and replaced it for me - on his dime. Bought a AARMA Granite Mega 4x4 for sons birthday. the motor burnt out in less than 2 hrs of run time. Turns out the differential had bad bearings causing friction on motor. Found guy at shop spent an hour taking it apart but when it was apparent that the motor and differential failed from no fault of ours THEY DONT STAND BEHIND THE PRODUCT. They wouldnt swap the truck out for a new one or handle the warranty for me. now I have to pay shipping to the USA to get the parts. ZERO help after the finding the problem. sorry but in this economy, every dollar is stretched thin and this purchase of $525 went to the wrong hobby shop. read more

I hate this place and will never return. Once the creep owners get your money they will not return it. I am surprised this dump is still standing. My Dad (who was on a fixed income) went in there once and asked about a used radio. He asked the jerk owner if he could negotiate a lower price. Mr hobby shop guy promptly got into a loud argument with him, then put the RC radio back on the shelf with an even higher price on it. Don't deal with them they will not refund your money and they are hostile people. His wife likes to loudly proclaim it is the best "hobby shop in Calgary" Really? You really believe that? Why go there, get treated like dirt and pay more for something? read more

After diving back into the world of land RC a few months back, I was super excited to visit and support a second retailer in Calgary. Well, today we were in South Calgary, and with an hour to go before their closing time, we decided to make a small diversion and head to Action Hobby. That was my first mistake. We were never greeted, despite walking right by the female owner who was at the till. The older gentlemen (the other owner) eventually made himself available to answer my questions. All his answers were either condescending or sarcastic, almost as though he was covering up the fact that he has very little knowledge on the subject. My second mistake was purchasing something. Even at the till, the older man continued to belittle my questions. Afterwards, I felt terrible about myself for handing over $20 to that horrible man. All I can do now is make certain to never spend another dollar there, and encourage others to do the same. read more
