I am a creature of habit. I may have moved to Illinois, but I still come back to the Missouri side to get my haircut/styled. So when my stylist Cate, moved to a new salon, I followed her. After all, she's been cutting my hair for 15 years and I am too old to go out and find a new stylist. Bisides, I like what she does. Let me repeat, I love how Cate cuts my hair. I prefer scissor cuts to a clipper with a snap comb attached, which so many use for a mans hair-cut. She takes the time to totally scissor my hair and only uses a clipper to trim up my neckline. We've had a professional relationship/friendship going on 15 years. The salon is conveniently located in Clayton, which is a bonus. Its location is so prime, that after my cut I can easily go have lunch or doing some boutique shopping. I like the spacious lay-out and the lighting in the salon. The large windows also allow natural lighting to flow into the salon, making it warm and welcoming. If anyone is looking for a new full service salon, I'd highly recommend Govero. read more

I have been coming here for a couple years. I have always been overly picky about my hair salon and this one made the cut. Now my dad joke quota is complete for the day. Stylists: Professional and personal, their hair dressers are always taking training courses, flying all over the country to keep up with the current styles. It really shows that the owner wants his stylists skills to grow and be up to date with the latest and greatest. Recently the Clayton office was remodeled and it looks great! The stylists are gracious and nice. You see a mix of clientele here, although I see a lot of a younger set of people come here when I am here. Becke is amazing and she does great things for my normally grey hair. Products: Goldwell, KMS, Oribe, Kevin Murphy, Moroccan Oil, Olaplex, Deva Curl. Costs: Costs ranges from what level of skill you get. Like most places, the more experience and certified a hair dresser is the more costly it is. Locations: It is a longer drive for me but I enjoy the Clayton location more. The Des Peres is bigger but the way it is built there is nothing to absorb the volume that it can reach there. Parking: My only annoyance in coming to this location. Park in the street with meter parking or in the back for free if you can find a spot. Plan to take some time to find a parking spot. TLDR:. This was my first time at Govero in Clayton. I arrived early and sat in the waiting area for 15 minutes without anyone coming by the front desk. I heard voices in the back so I assumed my stylist was busy finishing up with another client but when it got to 15ish minutes past my appointment time, I walked over to let them know I was here. The stylist was nice and said she'd be done shortly and would come get me. I have long hair and only needed a trim and she cut it exactly how I asked but I felt like she rushed through the whole process--I left with hair that wasn't fully blow dried. I don't think the service was really worth the price so I'm not sure I'll be going back. read more

I discovered Savana at Govero Salon on a business trip to St. Louis. She's such a nice, talented stylist! I easily booked my appointment online from the airport. A few hours later I arrived for my shampoo and blowout. I was greeted by a super friendly receptionist (big bonus!) who brought me a glass of water. Shortly thereafter, Savana walked out and worked her magic. An hour later I left feeling fresh and fancy! Thank you, Savana! She did a fantastic job and was the first person I trusted enough to go back to in years (I had been seeing the same stylist since I was younger but moved out of state). I booked a haircut online which was convenient since a lot of businesses don't answer the phone or return calls anymore. I forgot the name of the lady who have me a haircut. Anyhow my experience here wasn't anything special or worth repeating. The receptionist was nice. The stylist's personality was bland and blunt. No scalp massage at all during the shampoo. I had to ask for something to drink. It was never offered at first. I don't know how these stylists get repeat clientele(I would assume that's part of the point here). Unfortunately my experience with the eyelash specialist Kayla was less than favorable. I tried finding a page for her business but only found the salon. Speaking of finding the salon, during peak times the parking in the back can be a bit tricky as it gets full. There was street parking in front but all spots were also full. The reception area of the salon has a coffee maker for coffee by the door along with a front desk agent. My eyelash extension (full set) experience seemed fine until the following day. The total appointment took around 50 minutes, much quicker than the originally estimated 90 minutes. I was initially asked what I was looking for and I said some volume but mostly length. I was given all length lashes and told if I wanted volume there would be an upcharge on the next appointment. Also, the lashes used were premade as clusters. I followed all instructions on the card I was given, although I found out after I wasn't given specifics on which direction to brush them for example, or how to sleep that can keep them on longer. The lashes felt firm and inflexible. The lashes started falling out, in clumps, starting the following day. I did not get my face wet or sweat, as I was told. I took a few pics along the next week because I had no idea of what was normal amount vs a problem. Two weeks later, with barely any lashes on, I was called at 2pm by Kayla on her cell, asking if I could come earlier than 5pm to which I said no due to work. I then called her cell that she called me from, at 5:08 for my 5pm appt to indicate due to the heavy rain/accident my GPS was now saying ETA of 5:25 but I would keep driving that way since I wanted to keep my appointment. I called back two more times while driving, without any return call. When I showed up to the salon at 5:25, she had apparently left and also not told the receptionist she was leaving. Since I had left several messages I'd assumed of hear back. I never received a return phone call. I eventually went to a different eyelash specialist to fix my extensions. The eyelashes did not immediately fall out and felt soft, feathery, & light. Comparing the two products alone it seemed like a big difference yet alone the service issues. read more

To say this place is disappointing, it would be a lie. It's sadly not professionally run, or has any talent. My stylist colored only 3 quarters of my roots. She forgot one part. This is a great salon. I'm so particular about my hair. Everyone knows what they are doing and they are busy. I use to see Whitney, but she has left. This is where you come to get an amazing cut, color, and highlights or ombre or anything new and trendy. Usually, a salon is about the particular stylist, but this place - I trust in general overall. I don't do many reviews on Yelp but I felt like I just had to spread the word about Robert Govero for Hair in Clayton. First of all, Rob is a charismatic, friendly, and fun guy who does amazing cuts, gorgeous color, and PERFECT blowouts. Seriously worth every single penny! I've been to stylists that make you feel special and act like they are interested in your life but it usually is superficial and only lasts for the first appointment or two. Not Rob. He's full of energy, interest, excitement, and you can tell the man LOVES what he does, including getting to know his clients. Between his master skills and his appreciation for each person that walks into his salon, I can absolutely say he is the best stylist I have ever been to. In addition, his staff is amazing at customer service. Every single one of them makes you feel like a friend, never neglects to take your coat, ask you if you would like a drink, smile and acknowledge you (you would be amazed at how many stylists at other salons think if you aren't their client they don't need to talk to you), and ask how you're doing. I have to say, I have met some other pretty cool clients there, as well. The environment is so relaxed and friendly that its really easy to start chatting with other clients and staff. Worst haircut I've ever gotten, stylist was rude, abrasive, didn't listen, cut my hair the way she thought it should be cut and couldn't care less about anything I wanted or requested. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I purchased a Groupon in June for a facial. Yesterday (8/30), I made an appointment. I was thrilled they could get me in as early as the next day. So, I show up for my appointment less than 24 hours later and complete the paperwork. Only for the receptionist (who was very sweet) to tell me the Groupon was a mistake and never should have been online. Therefore, in order to keep my appointment, I'd have to pay the difference ($45). Apparently, the owner decided last night they would no longer honor those Groupons. This is unacceptable. You mean to tell me, had I called 1 day earlier I could have used it? This owner appears to lack any sort of customer service standards. If a product/service is posted at a price, you honor that. Even if it was an error. I was really looking forward to the facial, but left. It wasn't about the money, but the principal that this was just wrong. They should be ashamed. read more

I was recommended to Govero Salon for my wedding from my maid of honor. I had never met or had services from anyone at the salon before my trial and wedding - so i was a little bit nervous. Julia was my coordinator and she was absolutely amazing. She was organized in creating a schedule for everyone to have hair and makeup done on the wedding day and her entire team was extremely professional. When I moved to St. Louis from Boston, one of my biggest worries was who was going to do my hair (well...not BIGGEST, but a blondie needs a good hairdresser to keep her roots in check!) I asked a friend with fabulous blonde hair where she got hers done, and she referred me to Rob. Rob does an amazing job with my blonde highlights, and clearly knows his stuff - he's been in the industry for years. Not only have I loved my color from Rob, the haircuts he's given me have been awesome as well. He listens to what you want, while also will giving you the best recommendation for your hair. I would definitely recommend him, or any of his stylists (I've gone to a few others when Rob was unavailable and I was desperate for a highlight!). read more

One of the senior girls cut my hair and it was one of the most blah haircuts I've received. The prices aren't cheap and it's obvious that you're paying for the Clayton real estate space NOT the quality or professional level of the cut. Also, a lot of the people working here are a tad on the rude side (this is the Midwest not NYC I would expect a more "mid-west" kindness). I would not suggest Govero to anyone, this Robert Govero's business to make money, not make people happy about their hair. read more

Becke is AMAZING! She is a miracle worker, I came to her with a very complicated dye job and she worked with me and helped me through till the very end, assuring me everything is going to work out wonderfully, they provided me beverages while I was getting my hair done, salon was a happy, beautiful, clean atmosphere, friendly and conversational staff. I would recommend this salon more than 5 stars if it would let me to help you for a beautiful dye job or hair cut. I will be going back as my hair grows out for upkeep, maintenance, and touch ups. She had to work with a bad haircut and chunky orange highlights (on dark brown hair). I don't know how she did it but I'm in awe of the balayage coloring she did.  The cut was just as amazing. This was my First time to Govero Salon. I received a groupon as a bday gift fort first time- full set and one fill for eye lashes. I called 3 weeks later & made my appt for the fill however One & 1/2 hours prior to my appt I receive a call from the salon advising this salon NO LONGER honors Groupon so this appt for my fill would not be accepted as part of the $150 pre paid amount! Worse yet I was on my way there when I received the call; basically my appt was cancelled, advising me (without seeing the amount of fill I needed) I would need a complete new set for their new $100 special. I asked what the difference would be since I was Past their (uninformed two week rule...) and was again informed, they no longer honor Groupon & my pre paid fill no longer existed. What a disappointment and a total racket! Worse yet- the girl lost a booked client and wasn't informed. Management there is horrible- all about the money & not happy clients. I took my 11 month old son to Julie for his first haircut. She could tell I was a hot mess, so she made sure not to cut it too short or too much off the top. She used the clippers for the most part, but when she had to use the shears, she was quick and made sure to get out of his way since he was moving all over the place, even on my lap. Before she started she let him feel the vibration of the clippers and this seemed to take care of a lot of his curiosity which could have made the cut much more difficult. read more

I just had a cut and balayage done by Melanie and I am in love with my hair! Melanie did such an amazing job. It was my first time coloring my hair in almost five years so I was a little apprehensive. She spent a long time talking to me about what I wanted for my hair and advised me on what she thought would work well. The finished product is exactly what I wanted- a very natural balayage. She also styled it beautifully which was a nice bonus! The salon is cute- it's a great location in downtown Clayton. Everyone was very nice! My mom and I went in for manicures (walk in appointment). They could only take one at a time, but there was a chair massage station adjacent to the nails so we swapped services which worked out well. The massage was really good. The only thing I missed from the manicure would be a better, longer hand massage and a dryer so you don't leave with wet nails. read more

Rob, the owner, is a hands on experienced practitioner. He studies the art and science of hair. I had a keratin treatment and cut. I was nervous to do the keratin treatment because I'm really active (aka, sweat a lot). He worked with me, tuned up my cut and taught me his to blow dry my hair to get the results I wanted. I have gotten many compliments. I haven't had color done yet, but just observing them in action makes me know that I would get a great result. And, Whitney gives a great shampoo and scalp massage. read more
