I really wanted to make this my forever salon! I like Marie as a person and she does a good job straightening my hair. After letting her choose a color style from some pics I had saved she did not give me what I was looking for after 2 visits. I am thankful she did not charge for the color correction but disappointed she didn't even try to pull out my highlights before darkening up the rest. So moving cities is the worst, and normally, I'm the type just to fly back to LA or NYC to get a haircut etc., because finding someone new is almost never worth it. However, I was in a pinch and took a gamble, and it was super worth it. Monica, the owner, was just back from fashion week in NY but was able to squeeze me in to make it work. The salon was super welcoming and lovely; everyone was delightful. I've had my hair done at some of the "best" places in the world, Fekkia, Trio, Juut, etc, and Monica was every bit as good or better. The TLDR is if you are a big city girl and want to get your hair done in the midwest but don't want to fly to a major city, Monica is every bit as good, half the price, and a complete delight. I had one of the BEST experiences of my life, it was my birthday and I am receiving chemo treatments and needed to cut my hair. I was anxious and nervous but the staff and clients at the salon were all blessings to my soul! My hair was assessed and a professional recommendation was made that would help me manage my hair long term. Loved the salon. Had some issues with a few things, but did not hold it against the salon owner. I had an awesome consultation with the owner that truly established trust in her knowledge. First visit, May 1, she applied color in my hair in a very odd way (visually) but I was able to repair that with a visit to my barber, but despite the weird application (not the WAY she does her work but the way she laid my color on my head), my hair was beautiful. Went back to her July 24th and got color touched up and again, received this weird application that she had to repair...uneven, brought down low...but still...nothing my barber could not fix. However, on July 23, I was leaving a message about my hair falling out....and on August 5th, I was with my barber cutting my hair off on his off day because all of my hair fell out. Have I heard from the owner? NOPE...even inboxed her pics of my hair...she saw them...no response. Called the salon...won't even discuss how that went...smdh. It is really unfortunate because clearly she is a valuable to the beauty industry...but professionalism speaks volumes. I am happy that I am comfortable wearing my hair shaved to my scalp, but I prefer for it to be my CHOICE and not the only option. The worst part is, I put more stock in her professionalism than I should have. Because with all of her experiences, connections and documented success....I still have not received a call or acknowledgment of concern...‍ Fortunately, while I consider my legal options, I have pictures, receipts and solid timelines if I decide to move on principal alone. I would have given a 1 star just because she has not taken the time to respond to me and SHE DID MY HAIR..but I have friends who go to her and value her work...so for their sake, this is a one off....who knows...I know I will never test the process again Update....as of 8/14...I still have not heard a word from her....Wow! read more

The first time I went too this salon was outstanding. The service was good even though I asked for only a haircut . Marie decided to style my hair the end result was good didn't even complain about the price even left a tip. Now we r in November made an appointment last Saturday at 12:15 that was provide by her assistant Stacy. Sat there for two hours n I decided to tell Marie I would make another appointment n she said she's sorry n when I come back on Saturday 11-11 it will be on her. Initially today my appointment was at 12:45 made by Stacy no problem. I called Maria before my appointment time she asked if I could come in early, no problem get to her shop in timely manner of course she had people waiting in her chair. Sat ther from 11:00 am - 1:30 pm still no haircut n all she could say is she's sorry. Originally from NYC, it's been hard for me to find a stylist in southern Illinois that meets up to the caliber of stylists I had back home. Since September of this year I've been searching with many hiccups along the way. My last cut was at a salon in O'Fallon where the owner of the shop completely chopped my hair and left it in an awful unhealthy state. Thankfully, I was able to find SHI Salon. Upon calling, I was kindly greeted by the receptionist (Jessica) who was friendly, patient and very informative. After hearing my story and concerns she was able to direct me to Daphane. Daphane met ALL of my expectations and PRAYERS! She was mild, not pushy and didn't make me feel even worse about the already Jacked-up condition of my hair. She just RESOLVED the problem while making me feel that I was in good CAPABLE hands. :) I will be coming back as a regular client. I was visiting from out of town pick this place based on reviews. Arrived at my appointment with Paris a little early took about 45/50mins until I was in a chair for a wash/silk press (she was working with another client), after my wash and sitting under the dryer for almost 30mins (I was forgot about) and passed along to Aisha who finished my hair, she did a nice job. I think time management and communication with the client is important and I felt neither were met, stylists dislike for clients to be late and I dislike to wait when I have an appointment. read more

have very curly ethnic hair. I described this to Daphne on the phone when I was calling to see about making an appointment. She made it sound like great no problem I know how to cut that type of hair. So when I get there I am waiting on Daphne and start talking to the owner Marie and she advises Daphne to blow out my hair before she cuts it. At this point alarm bells are going off in my head, but this is supposed to be a great salon according to the reviews I have read so I let her do that. Well instead of blow drying it out straight she half straightens it to where it is one big fluff ball all the while tugging and ripping at my hair (she says my hair has to be controlled, REALLY!!!??). If you have read anything about taking care of natural hair one of the first rules to it is NEVER to tug and rip at it. So at this point i am practically in tears and should've left right then but I didn't. You see I drove over an hour to get this done. So then she proceeds to start cutting it all the while telling me how uneven my last haircut was. I told her how I have different curl patterns on my head and so basically she tells me I need to "manipulate" my curls to make my haircut look right. By this she means pull up my looser curls on the bottom and stretch down my tighter curls on the top. I went there to get a good haircut that I could wear as a wash and go not to have to try and fix my hair to hide a bad haircut. When she was done she told me I had a much better haircut than before. I was not happy with it but regardless I paid her. I wish I had not. Two days later I wet my hair and fix it myself and it is soooo much worse than I thought it was when i left the salon. The girl I had fix it described it as the jellyfish hiarcut because the bottom layer is totally disconnected from the top and it looks like tentacles hanging down. So very upset I call the salon and speak to Marie the owner. She is very apologetic and asks me to send her pictures to her email and that she will get back with me in 20 minutes. So I send her pictures and hear nothing back, so i call the next day to see if she received my email and apparently she is busy. Well every time I call she won't take my call. I spoke to Daphne and she defended her work which is ridiculous with the picutres I sent Marie there is no sense in defending that haircut. A five year old could've done a better job. So about a week later I ger a call from someone at the salon that they have agreed to give me a refund, I am happy with this because that very day I was back up in St. Louis and had to pay someone $70 to fix that atrocious haircut, bring my total now to $100 since I paid Daphne $30. (Thanks Carrie Waller you did a fantastic job!) So I am waiting and waiting on the check that they said they were going to mail me and nothing. So now almost 3 weeks later I call yet again to find out why the said they were going to mail me a check and never did. So apparently they are screening calls from me but someone made the mistake of answering, she asks if she can put me on hold. Well that is the longest hold i've ever been on, so i call back two times and they let it go to the machine. Very child like behavior from a business owner and lying about what they say they will do. My advice is if you have natural hair and want to keep it that way please don't ever go to this salon. This is about the worst experience I have ever had with any business just as far as customer service goes not to mention their ignorance of how to treat natural hair. Oh yeah and Daphne says they don't believe in different curl types at their salon and that you either have straight, wavy or curly hair. She said my hair is wavy. That is the biggest load of BS I have ever heard. I have very tight curly 3c/4a curl pattern. Anyways they do not know anything of natural hair at this salon. And the owner and my stylist did not wear their hair in its natural state either, apparently because they don't know how to take care of it in that state. I had my hair cut by Sarah yesterday and I absolutely love it! I will admit that I was a little nervous at first because my appointment had not been entered into the system so no one expected me. However, once I get in the chair and Sarah got started, my fears eased away. The cut was a little different that I had originally planned, but she talked me through each step and made sure I was comfortable with everything before she did anything.
