My wife and I had an amazing stay here over Fourth of July weekend from Thursday to Saturday as we had tickets for Three Dog Night at Rams Head Live on the 3rd. They do a great job making a historic property feel modern with ample outlets and usb ports, a very comfortable bed, and a mini fridge we used to store leftovers and beer. The TVs also have more channels than we ever have had in a hotel but rarely used given all the fun stuff in Annapolis. They also make the hotel accessible with elevators and wheelchair accessible rooms. The staff was also wonderful and accommodated us well by storing our belongings after checkout while we explored the State House on the 5th. We love how much is in a very short walking distance to here. Parking may be expensive but for car free people this is quite easy with commuter busses from DC and Baltimore, local Flixbus from DC and New York, local busses around the clock from Baltimore Light Rail's Cromwell station, as well as ample Ubers and Lyfts that may be cheaper than parking and no need to go past walking distance. read more

Worst hotel experience I have ever had. We booked months in advance, well rated hotel, historic building all sounds good. We get there and find that the bar and restaurant are holding a Christmas Party, with an unbearably loud and frankly poor performing cover band. We get moved to the forth floor, the music is so loud we can still hear it at the top of the building. Who the eff does this, no heads up and the horrible cover band is performing tell 11 pm on a Sunday night. Worst hotel experience I have ever had. Never go to this hotel. read more

2 nights at $200 a night plus taxes $491. Plus $70 for parking!!! The room looks out over the lobby at a brick wall 30 ft away. The bathroom is very big for handicapped but has no towel rack no counter top to put your stuff on when you shower. Just a sink hanging from the wall. The shampoo and conditioner is in dispensers hanging on the wall that anyone that was here before you could put ANYTHING in! NOT sanitary and the shower has no fan but Everytime the AC kicks on it sounds like a jet taking off in our room. All night you sweat your but off then it kicks on you freeze. They offer a discount for 2 night stands and for being a firefighter but only if you book it directly through them. When I tried to call and book it directly I was forwarded to a call center that knew NOTHING about the hotel!!!! He didn't speak English so he was very hard to understand plus he mumbled!!! Great location and quaint little hotel, but the housekeeping was terrible. On Tuesday morning as we left to tour the Naval Academy I stopped at the front desk around 11:00 am. I told the clerk that we were leaving and would be back around 4:00 and asked if our room could be serviced before we returned. I was assured that wouldn't be a problem. We returned at 4:15 and the room still hadn't been serviced. I patiently waited in the lobby as someone was sent up to handle things. On Wednesday as we again were leaving I stopped at the front desk and requested that our room be cleaned while we were out. I was assured that it would be done. Three hours later we returned and the room still had not be cleaned. It seems the housecleaning crew doesn't speak or understand English and only their supervisor is capable of communicating with them. Ugh!! read more

I rarely if ever write negative reviews but I would strongly advise against staying at this hotel. And, if you do, please don't have them park your car for you as it might be involved an accident. We've seen many times the valets speed as they cross the sidewalk into their garage on East Street. They honk as they roll on the sidewalk (presumably to alert pedestrians) but this seems very unsafe, especially for the hearing impaired. read more

What a nightmare. Most mind-blowingly incompetent staff ever. Nothing from the moment we pulled up to the valet has gone as we were told. We were told we'd have luggage service straight from our car. Nope. We were told that they would bring our luggage to our room. Nope. But they did give us a cart. My husband booked a room with a fireplace. Nope. When he told the front desk that we didn't have one she literally had to come up to see for herself. She then told him no such rooms exist. Funny since there are pictures of them all over their website and from guests on Trip Advisor. We were supposed to have a bottle of wine in the room. Nope. Front desk girl said she'd send it up within a day. Within a day?! We're checking out at 11am. And there are stains on the headboard. Gross. Just avoid. Update: The wine was delivered. For context, my husband reserved a B&B package for $45 extra per night and was informed they closed their restaurant, so inexplicably, instead of just charging the regular rate, they asked what they could do to make it up. He said, give us a nice bottle of wine in the room. After fighting for said bottle we were delivered a rare bottle of Wycliff Brut, retailing for $5.97, and delivering perpetual headaches to consumers nationwide. Dear Daryl Strayer, General Manager: I was sent a survey to review my stay on June 2 and 3. I have not heard back at all from you. So I am sending this email to you and will continue to send until I receive a courteous response. Here is my review to you. Firstly, our key would never work. We told the front desk immediately and he sort of stared at us. Each time we were in and out, we would never be able to get in. Once we saw housekeeping to help us and it took her 3 tries. Another time we saw housekeeping and she could not get us in and so brought the key down to the front desk herself to get a new key. THEN, our first night in the room, at bedtime we smelled cigarette smoke...A LOT! It was also very warm and humid on the bathroom level. We were confused and didn't know what was going on. The next morning when we opened the shutters we saw that the window was open at least 6 inches at the top.!! My husband could not close it. It would not budge. It was painted shut. The smoke smell was wafting up from the courtyard below. When I told front desk at check out and asked for some sort of compensation, the man with the thick accent (maybe German?) just stared at me and said, "sorry". We dealt with cigarette smoke and hot air for two nights ., some sort of compensation needs to be made read more

Not as advertised. Check in took over one hour. There are three different hotels but check in is at only one, the Calvert House "a five minute walk" for a speed walker with no luggage. We were at the Maryland Inn which had no hotel personnel on premise to help with luggage or answer any questions. Our room was very small with a queen bed taking up much of the room. The bath was approximately 5 feet by 5 feet with a shower head that had little force with less volume. The floors creaked and were slanted. The window AC was noisy and windows did not open. Hard to sleep which is the primary purpose of staying in a hotel. Not worth the price. Would not return. read more

While I truly love this place to stay, the centralized reservation system is a disaster!!! `Half the time the prompt system doesn't work `When it works you wait and wait `If you have someone make the reservation for you, you need all that persons vital statistics to extend a stay. As a Naval Academy grad, I like to stay there and have for over 20 years. Used to be able to call the Calvert House directly, not anymore. They read from a script and if any of the detail is not readily available, they can't think on their feet. I gave them the confirmation number, date of stay, name of person who made the reservation and his phone number. Still wasn't enough AND I WAS TRYING TO EXTEND the stay for two extra days!!! I just made another reservation at another hotel!!! This is what happens when companies write scripts for a clerk to follow and don't permit them to use their heads!!!!! read more

Wow! This is a beautiful historic hotel. Alot bigger than it looks. So I was shopping downtown Annapolis and I REALLY Had to pee, so I asked the door man to see if I could use the bathroom and he was nice enough to let me in. when i went in, I was blown away at the decor and the historic displays in the lobby. In one room there is a glass floor where you can see how the basement looked back in the day. VERY COOL! A really neat place to stay if you are into Maryland History. Who knew?! read more

We stayed in the Governor Calvert House for one night, on the third floor, in a newly-renovated suite. It was beautiful. The room was very large (King-size bed) with lots of extra room on each side. Having central air in August was amazing, so make sure you request a room that has it. Also, be sure to visit the excavated greenhouse on the lobby level. Absolutely amazing. The only drawbacks I would mention were the lack of a fan in the bathroom (for obvious reasons, along with the excess moisture/humidity when showering) along with the near-constant horn blaring from the valet service on the street below (though that wasn't the case during the night -- just during the day). Overall, it was stellar, especially because it overlooked the State Capitol building. The location really can't be any better. Highly recommended! read more

Staying at a beautiful, historic hotel in downtown Annapolis instead of a Holiday Inn in the burbs? Sign me up! I'm a sucker for history, so this quaint little hotel in a historic part of town really did it for me. When I was exploring the downstairs, I found a room with a glass floor that let you see some of the original foundation of the buildings. There were all kinds of interesting historical artifacts and photos around the hotel. My room was decorated in tasteful, classic style, but had all the modern conveniences. It was clean and well-kept. And best of all, it had a set of french doors that opened onto a terrace overlooking the State House. My only complaint is that I was on a business trip and couldn't stay longer. I would have loved to amble around the downtown area checking out the shops. read more

We stayed at the Governor Calvert House (one of the three buildings that comprise the Historic Inns of Annapolis, and it's also the main building where reception is). The location is unbeatable, but the accomodations are so-so. The entrance to this building is on a beautiful circle and located within walking distance to shops, places to eat, and sites to see. There is no parking... you can either park your car down the block in a garage, or you can valet your car for around $20. We arrived after midnight, and there was no valet (even though I was told it would be available 24-hours). When we got to the reception desk (don't worry about lugging your suitcases around, reception is not up that big staircase outside you might have seen in pictures... it's just behind the staircase on the ground floor), the woman there had no record of my reservation. We finally found it under the name of my other guest, and since the computer system was down, I had to let her write down my credit card information on a piece of paper. She was very nice though. The regular rooms were pretty much just like any other hotel room... closet with hangers, ironing board & iron, a desk with a listing of amenities, a tv, phones & clock radios on the bedside tables, etc. The only difference was that, instead of modern generic decor, the rooms felt a little more traditional and historic. The rooms looked clean, but slightly tattered. The bed was ok. I am not dying to come back here, but if I was ever in the area again, I would definitely consider it. read more

We came from Newport, RI, which Annapolis was built after, to attend the wedding of our daughter. This was a Naval Academy wedding with a dress white sword ceremony. We hired a wedding planner for a full day of preparation . HE WAS A NO SHOW UNTIL LATE IN THE AFTERNOON , WHILE HE PROMISED TO BE THERE THE WHOLE DAY. Instead, the bride, the bridesmaids, grandmother , and mother scrambled from 8 AM to 3:30: They set in place all the table arrangements,flower arrangements, guest seating . Marcus ( also known as wedding planner), was not present as needed. The bride was stressed out by the lack of his PAYED Attendance !!! We booked a four night break to coincide with a concert with Rodger Hodgson. July 15th-July 19th. We was advised we could not check in until 4pm. So, we drove up from Florida staying overnight on the way up from Florida. We timed it so we got to The Calvert at about 4pm only to be told that your room is not ready,but you can leave your luggage behind the desk if you want to have a look around town, good start after a 1000 mile trip. An hour later we finally got into our room which was really nice. Next day we took ourselves into Annapolis to look at the really nice town,shops and friendly people. We got back to our room around 4pm only to find the room still was not fully serviced. So, we left for another hour and to our surprise when we returned that there was not enough towels,no coffee, no cups. Later on about 9.30 pm there was a knock on the door and it was a maintenance guy telling me that he had to come in and service the A/C unit as there was a leak. Ok not there fault, next morning 7.15am same thing again with the A/C. So we had to get up and let him do the work. This happened one more time later that evening. When we left to start our journey home and when I stopped to get gas I noticed the there was damage to the lower from passenger side bumper. So when we got home I spoke to Patrick,valet manager,and he said he would investigate it..he called me the following day only to tell me that none of the valet personnel know anything about it, what a surprise. I look after my cars like gold,and if I had done that damage I would have not rang Patrick to report it. The policy should be,when you arrive get the valet to walk around your vehicle with you to inspect for any prior damage or not. Very disappointing as I gave the valet team a good thank you in the way of cash. Room service needs a good shake up, and honesty should be priority. The room was good,front desk excellent, breakfast really good. Lots of room for improvement. read more

This is by far my favorite hotel in Annapolis. I love the history of the hotel, location, and the service. I prefer to stay at the Calvert House as that is where check in is located. I've stayed in large rooms and very tiny rooms, and all have had the ambience I look forward to when I visit Annapolis. My only wishes are that I could accumulate points as a frequent guest and that room service was available. But, even without those perks, I still prefer to stay at the charming Calvert House over the big chain hotels. read more

Beautiful, clean, historic hotel. We loved it until Saturday evening when we figured out that we had a 2nd floor up close and personal balcony view of a wedding reception. As it got later, it got louder. The music shook our room until 11 when it was finally lowered. When we booked the room we were not informed of the room's close location to the wedding venue and the price was not discounted for its location. My husband and I went out for dinner at 5. The wedding location was right next to the elevators with only a curtain separating it from the rest of the hotel. We stepped out of the elevator at the wrong time which apparently was when the wedding had begun. When the elevator doors opened there was a hotel staff person immediately in our face shushing us and ushering us away from the elevators. What a way to make your guests feel unwelcome!!! Who's brilliant idea was it to create a reception area that is surrounded by rooms where people sleep??? Adding to our dissatisfaction of the hotel was a super powered flushing toilet that showered you with toilet water if the lid was up, slow valet service, and finally the package inclusion of romantic champagne and chocolates only to be met with champagne and TRAIL MIX??? We love Annapolis. The people are very friendly and we love the restaurants and shops. We will be back but not at the Historic Inns of Annapolis. read more

Perfect. Needed after a completely horrible week. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the rooms were quaint and clean. It was a little expensive for the valet parking but in the end it was worth it to be able to park the car and not think about it for the whole weekend. I attended a cocktail reception here. Parking was not the easiest as this location is right near the Capital Building. The food was pretty good. The prime rib was cooked well. The pasta bar was a bit overcooked but not bad. The staff were very friendly. The bathroom wasn't the cleanest. For this place to be a historic building, the bathroom needs to be modernized. read more

Stayed here for a wedding about a month ago. Location is top notch. Can't be beat. If you're young and healthy i recommend you park yourself as there are parking garages within walking distance. While the hotel is a little on the old side it was clean and staff was pleasant. Plenty of food options within walking distance. We did not eat at the hotel nor did we spend much time aside from the wedding but we were very pleased with our stay. Would definitely come back. read more

It may be a historic building, but if you want a low water pressure, mold in the shower, rude front desk, smelly perfumed soap and rough towels then this is the place for you. We've stayed at historic hotels before, including the wonderful Thayer Inn at West Point, that had impeccable service, and there is no excise for the condition and service at the Gov Calvert house. I had my wedding reception at the Gov Calvert House and stayed three nights during all of the events. I would say the hotel portion of the wedding was absolutely amazing. Having been a banquet server and having many friends in the industry, the reception was okay in comparison to those I've worked and attended. I wanted to book a venue off the beaten path of typical Naval Academy weddings since our friends have been to several at the Marriott waterfront and Loews. The venue is beautiful and staff were experts on service. I would recommend this venue but continue reading, Michelle, the banquet sales person was quick to respond. However we should've known there would be an issue with food quality when our food tasting was nothing special. We arrived late after driving 5 hours and gave them 2 hours notice, but the food came out dry and overcooked. The reason I give 3 stars was because the night of my $30,000 reception, 76 filets came out extremely rare- and inedible...to people who enjoy a mid rare filet. The manager compensated us for those filets but it was off-putting the night of the wedding, when my husband and I were greeting and thanking guests who did not have a meal or sent theirs back- and we also missed an entire set of dancing because of the length of the dinner (some filets were recooked so this took a while). Also, we were not allowed to bring/buy 1 bottle of vodka that they did not carry and my father drinks, unless we bought a whole case through their vendor, which the case price was over $700. Considering all the money that we were about to spend there was no flexibility- I think we received a discount on chair covers. I've heard of other venues bending over backwards to make accommodations- so my advice is to ask your questions up front before you place the non refundable deposit for your event. read more

The biggest drawback with this hotel is PARKING! You can valet your car (I think it's around $25) or you can park in the parking garage around the corner. If you are staying over the weekend, the parking garage is free starting Friday after 6pm. The AC in the rooms work fabulous, but the bathroom is a bit small, not alot of counter space. I was not a fan of the shower. NOOO water pressure at all. The stream of the water makes it feel like you are being stabbed! The reception hall is beautiful, and the service in the bridal suite is great. My biggest complaint is that me and my baby bump almost got stuck in the elevator. There is no lapse from the time you press your floor button to when the door shuts! So my friends got in, pressed our floor, and as I was walking in the elevator, the door started closing in on me....AHHHH! The hotel is within walking distance to all the bars and shops in downtown Annapolis. read more

THAT is the other problem, there was wedding with a dj so loud we couldn't hear tv. Lasted till 11pm. Just wish I would have known! Had to get up early. UGH!!! Beautiful location in historic Annapolis; the room we stayed in was lovely, and the beds were very comfortable. The staff is helpful and friendly. Parking is a bit difficult, but it's downtown Annapolis - parking is always difficult! Valet service is offered for $24 a night, and the valets are pleasant and helpful. If you don't feel like paying for valet, there are plenty of parking garages downtown. The prices are absolutely reasonable for such a nice hotel in a great location. read more

BEWARE of Valet Parking at any of these hotels....they damaged my new car with a 16" dent and scratch on my passenger door and will but will not take responsibility for the damages. The Historic Inns employ Towne Park...who walked around and inspected my car when I checked in and determined there was no damaged....when they brought me my car the next day the damages were clear as day. The valet manager and the Gov Calvert House front desk staff were immediately defensive and completely denied any responsibility and treated an innocent guest as if I had done something wrong. You can research Town Park and see the plethora of negative reviews with damages and denying all claims...which they have done with my claim. Shame on Historic Inns for employing an unethical valet service and treating their customers with complete lack of respect and no remorse. read more

The location is FABULOUS and the rooms are quaint but I've slept in better beds at a cheap hotel. I investigated many rooms to minimize the noise. One room was near the boiler room and when the equipment turned on the noise was awful and the floor vibrated the bonus feature for the room was that it overlooked the patio outside the banquet room so that you could enjoy noise from the event. Room 2 was a room with no window to the outside but the window looked out into the same banquet room allowing you to be up close and personal with the noise from the event. Room 3 was on the other side of the building but gave you the pleasure of enjoying the roof top noise of the HVAC unit from a nearby restaurant. The front desk ran out of rooms. It amazed me that the front desk made suggestions of where I could go until the wedding reception was over tonight - um, how about my room that I paid for - a quiet room? For the price that I paid, I expected much better. read more

Unfortunately my stay at the govenor Calvert house was disappointing. It began with an unfortunate interaction with Travis and Peter who were working the front desk. Check in is not until 3pm and we were very early. I understood this. I asked if they could try to get us in a room a little sooner because I was traveling with children and had a wedding rehearsal to take part in at 3pm. We had driven almost 7 hours that day and were in need of some freshening up. Again, I understand check in is at 3pm. Peter didn't even give me the courtesy of looking at me when he quickly answered they had no rooms ready. Travis took his cues from Peter and too said there were no rooms but that there should be something in an hour. Each hour we would go back to the desk and would be told they would have something for us in an hour. At 2:30pm they were finally able to get us in a room, but not after Travis asked Peter if he could run upstairs to see if a room was available an hour early to which Peter laughed and said no. Although we were early and asking for some special accommodation it was Peters attitude during these interactions that turned us off. When we finally got to our room my husband pulled the covers back and there was hair all over the sheets! He called for new sheets and when they came we were told we had to change them ourselves! We won't be staying here again. The price was too high for what the room we had and the customer service was terrible. There are so many other places to stay in the circle alone. read more
