Pros: There are many more popular B&Bs and inns in town, but Point Breeze has several perks. We felt like we had really lucked out and ended up with the best choice! 1) Lovely waterfront location with a great view of the harbor and lighthouse. Most of the B&Bs in St. Michaels are right on the main drag and not on the water. I doubt any of the other places have such a great view! 2) Kayaks, canoe, and bikes available for guest use -- no extra cost! 3) You're free to laze about anywhere on the beautifully landscaped yard. 4) You can fish from the private dock, and the innkeeper will help you "chicken neck" for crabs, if you want. 5) Joan, the innkeeper, makes a mean omelette and awesome German pancakes! 6) Speaking of Joan, she's a sweetie! So wonderful to talk to! 7) Very quiet area. Not right in town, so you don't get all the road noise. Very peaceful. 8) Free soft drinks available any time. 9) Costs quite a bit less than most other places in town. 10) Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. 11) Wi-Fi for all! 12) If you have a family of 6 and 2 people don't mind twin beds, you could rent the whole house out. Cons (sort of): 1) This isn't a con for me, but I can see how it could be for other people: Point Breeze's guest rooms are not fancy. You feel like you're staying over with relatives. We liked it, though! 2) No TVs in the guest rooms. A small TV is available in the great room. We really didn't care, however. We weren't there to watch TV. 3) If you don't want to take a short walk or bike ride into town, you'd be better off staying in town. We enjoyed the walk in -- not far for us at all! 4) Not many rooms -- only 3. But if you want to stay someplace quiet, this shouldn't be a problem. 5) 2 of the rooms share a bathroom. Not a big deal if you are staying with family or close friends. If you are a couple, there is one room available with a private bath. 6) Bare bones amenities in the bathroom, but more than adequate and comfortable.

It is a magnificent estate home in a storybook setting. The man who built the home, Taylor Chewning, owned a large brick foundry and that is evident throughout the grounds. The mansion itself is brick, many of the walkways are brick, the extensive stables are brick. This brick added to the almost palatial feeling of the Inn. The view from the front lawn (and from the back lawn actually) put us both at ease; it is a place to sit and read - completely relaxing. The Inn allows us to step out of the hectic and crowded life we have in the city; it transports us to rolling lawns, the smell of fresh grass, beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay. For a short weekend trip away from DC, it was a nice way to unwind. However, there are things about the Inn that keep it from being five - or even four - star. I get that the bathrooms are original to the house, vintage and keeping with the ambiance of the mansion (which was originally built in 1940). That is interesting but, for me, when I am treating myself to a weekend away, I want a modern bathroom with modern features. I want a walk-in shower, 2 sinks, a separate toilet room. The 1940's style of the bathroom was a complete let-down for me. Now, I knew it would be like this because the pictures on the Inn's website showed the bathroom. So, I was not surprised. But, staying there for a weekend emphasized that the world of design, particularly in bathrooms, has progressed a lot - I bet even the Chewnings (original owners) would not put up with the current state of these bathrooms. There was plenty of room in our suite to expand the bathroom and renovate it into a modern, first-rate spa-like oasis. If the Inn wishes to up its game, it will have to do that. Likewise, there were smaller cues that reflected a lack of modernization and elegance. Poorly hung wallpaper, mis-matched furniture perhaps purchased from yard sales, electric cords handing loosely all over our room, outdoor furniture that is not in great condition, windows that are dirty and paint peeling here and there. The Inn at Tacaro Estate misses being a 1st class destination because the little things are not up to par. The service is also lacking. They try but, like some of the facilities, they miss the mark here. My overall lasting impression of the Inn at Tacaro Estate is rather like Blanche Dubois from Streetcar Named Desire. Old world charm and elegance trying to remain swanky but actually run-down and not maintained, failing to meet current standards of hospitality. The beautiful dress that Blanche wore as a young girl in high society is now tattered and torn here and there. I can appreciate the posh clothing from another time but I also recognize that it is old and weathered. The owners have a very special piece of land and a beautiful home here. But they need to bite the bullet, spend the money and upgrade the finishes, the furniture and the service if they hope to make the Inn a real upscale destination. In the 1940's, I am certain that this mansion exuded money and upper-class refinement. However, for my stay here in the 2020's, it is more of a historical glimpse of pre-WWII society. I am willing to pay for luxury and that is what I want for a weekend away. But Tacaro Estate simply does not provide luxury. For these reasons, I cannot recommend a stay at the Inn at Tacaro Estate. I hate to give this place this tepid review. However, I feel that I am being honest.

I had visited St. Michaels before and Oxford is a few miles down the road and is a much quieter gem of a place to visit. Combsberry Inn has a long, tree lined driveway which is the first indication that you are visiting an old, special place. The house was built in the 1700's and all of the rooms have a beautiful view of the water. We stayed in the Oxford Cottage which is a separate building aptly nicknamed, "the dollhouse". It is the only pet-friendly accommodation but I am happy that's where we stayed because it was adorable and classy at the same time. We had a wood-burning fireplace with a starter log and more wood on the patio. There is a nice jacuzzi for two and vases with fresh flowers throughout the cottage. The bedroom is in the loft so it's only a full size bed but it's cozy. My only minor gripe is that the bed was too firm for my tastes, but my husband had no complaints. There are windows everywhere for great breezes. There is also a kitchen with a stove for any cooking you may want to do, a small fridge, and a microwave. You can sit on your patio and gaze at the water or walk down to the dock to look at the nesting ospreys (really!). Our dogs really loved running around the backyard and sleeping by the fireplace. They also have some books that we used and it was nice to disconnect with no tvs around. Best of all, breakfast and coffee is delivered to your doorstep at 9 am so you have no reason to get up early. We had homemade cinnamon buns, yogurt, and fresh fruit. I hope to come back sometime when the canoes and kayaks are ready for use to check out the beautiful waterways. The Robert Morris Inn is only a 5 minute drive away and is a great place to grab a romantic dinner. FYI - if you hear any crazy "screams" in the middle of the night, you are hearing the foxes! We saw a fox jump in front of our car too - so be careful driving around at night.

First off the staff is wonderfully pleasant - happy to answer any and all questions and very accessible without being overbearing. Because there was no one else at the inn they upgraded us from the one-bedroom cottage to the two-bedroom carriage house, free of charge. They are pet friendly and our little mutt certainly loved running around the extra space as well as the huge grounds. The house itself was the perfect eastern shore experience; country-quaint meets modern convenience. There was a fully upgraded kitchen, a large living room with gas fireplace, half bathroom, and a formal dining area. Each bedroom (which are located on opposites sides of the house, great for couples or families!) has it's own gas fireplace, four post king bed and bathroom with jacuzzi tub. The highlight, in my opinion, is the floor to ceiling windowed doors across the living room that give you a beautiful view of the grounds leading right up to the water. The technology offerings are low (an old tv without cable and dvd player provide the living room entertainment while their is only wireless internet available in the main house library) it is absolutely perfect for a "get-away-from-it-all" style vacation. In the morning the staff brings a basket with breakfast - muffins, bread pudding, smoothies and orange juice. While we came here on a deal, the regular prices are great for the experience and privacy you get (395 for the cottage or 700 for the full carriage house). We look forward to returning when the weather picks up a bit so we can take advantage of swimming and kayaking right off the property.

With a snowstorm just having passed and a last-minute plan to celebrate my daughter's 22nd birthday, we were so lucky to come across this beautiful home. Although we're a big family, this trip was just five of us -- and wow, there was more than enough space. In fact, I've already started planning future bookings because this will definitely be our yearly getaway spot. The views are stunning, and the home feels exactly like that -- a home -- with a modern touch that makes everything feel fresh, comfortable, and welcoming. The location was also very easy to find, which made arrival stress-free. Everything you need for your stay is thoughtfully provided. The house is HUGE, but not in a cold or empty way. As soon as you walk in, it unfolds like a story -- you can truly feel the love, care, and appreciation that's been poured into this place over time. There are multiple sitting areas, plenty of space for gatherings, and so many little touches that make it special. The host went above and beyond. They were incredibly accommodating and even answered a question for us at 1 a.m. -- something I fully expected to wait until morning. That level of care says everything. This host genuinely takes the extra mile to make sure you're comfortable and well taken care of. We visited in the winter with lots of snow, and it was magical. The Chesapeake had frozen, and we were actually able to skate on it safely -- an experience I'll never forget at 43, and one my children will always remember too. I can already imagine how amazing this place must be in the spring and summer with fishing, swimming, and endless outdoor activities. No matter the season, this is an incredible place to stay. You have your own dock and lovely yard. The kitchen area is bright, cheery, and large. This place is completely stocked from great coffee, water to plastic bags.. Any kitchen supply you could want is there. The lighting is elegant and the fans, curtains TVs are all very techno forward. The giant bathrooms are regal and I love the double sinks. The upstairs closet is the size of a room.. The four us could hang together or do our own thing without disturbing one another and the entire time we all felt so pampered by the ambiance. A perfect place for chiling, partying or just enjoying the waterfront. We LOVED it!

We wanted to share our wedding with our entire family, including children, so we requested chicken nuggets to be included. Chicken nuggets were never provided, and the owner seemed surprised that we wanted chicken nuggets when we asked for the status of them.The food that was served was ok, but our cake appeared almost homemade. None of the staff assisted with cutting our cake either. Our flowers were very underwhelming, despite sending several pictures of exactly what I wanted for the bouquets and center pieces. The bouquets used a plastic holder rather than binding and kept falling apart throughout the evening. The photographer was fantastic, but he never got any of the information we emailed the owner to send to him, including a list of requested photo shots and a list of wedding party/immediate family. The owner also charged us double his normal rates! We are keeping in touch with him and will be using his services again, at his reasonable rates. Our officiant was very magical; we were very pleased with her. We plan to reach out to her for future functions. Rent the venue, it is beautiful. Do not buy a package! You will be a happier bride if you coordinate yourself, or hire an outside coordinator. The owner will promise a free night stay on your anniversary... we've been married a year now and didn't even get an email returned.
