But this morning on a mission to try to eat better today, I discovered My Petite Factory. This place is a little gem with a variety of healthy dishes to try, some of these are decadent. To be honest, I could eat here for every meal and be thoroughly content. The use only fresh ingredients and make all of it from scratch. The footprint of this place is deceiving because when you walk in it looks like a tiny shop. But they do have seating downstairs if you want to eat in.

(Anyone know what this is? Please enlighten me!) I would have asked but the waitstaff seemed a bit busy... Which brings me to the downsides. My husband and I had intended to sup at another restaurant that ended up being closed for congé annuel. We crossed the river, got caught in a rainstorm, and took refuge under an awning. When I realized we were close to Le Jardin de Berthe (which I keep hearing rave reviews about from vegans on facebook), I suggested we try it. We rolled in (literally - we were pushing a stroller), half-dripping wet and looking a bit confused at the layout of what I thought was going to be a casual cafe. The waitress who approached us asked if we had a reservation. (Oops, no we did not.) After some logistical discussion between three of the staff, they decided they could seat us. (Hooray!) Our waiter (thankfully not the girl, who was visibly frustrated that we A) did not have a reservation and B) were obviously not native French speakers) helped me carry the stroller down some steep steps and showed us to a table for two. It was against the wall and the only place to put the stroller was directly in front of the table, blocking the waiter from getting very close. I didn't see any highchairs and we weren't offered one so maybe this isn't the best place for kids. The waiter was nice enough but obviously in a bit of a hurry so we felt rushed. I don't know if it was because we had a baby in a stroller, because we didn't have a reservation, or both. (Or maybe it was just the self-consciousness of new parents adjusting to eating with a baby who makes noise? Lots of variables.) Anywho, I ordered the salad and my husband ordered a ravioli dish with cream and bacon and - seriously - a quarter of a wheel of what we think was reblochon. He couldn't finish his either because it was so heavy but he enjoyed it! The rest of the vegetarian menu was not very impressive but I suppose the fact that they have a vegetarian menu at all should impress me. (And it does!) Other options were the ravioli dish sans bacon, a soy "steak", and a veggie burger (which sounded like the soy "steak" on a bun with some veggies.) I definitely recommend the salad, as the vegetables were high quality, in season, and super tasty. The dressing was good too - not the usual yellow French dressing but something a little fancier. (It definitely included mustard though, as usual.) We'll probably go back (with a reservation) and give the waitstaff and the other items on the menu a second chance. I'll update my review then.

The vegetarian salad is delicious - lots of beets, asparagus, hearts of palm, carrots (done in that oh-so-delicious French style that I can never seem to replicate), and about every other kind of veggie you can imagine. Okay, this one actually is kind of salad-like. The ravioli salads, on the other hand, are just intense. Delicious, but crazy. Don't get one of those thinking you're being healthy...it just ain't happening. That being said, the salade sicilienne is freakin yummy. Ravioli, tomato sauce, bacon, AND a poached egg all on top of a huge salad. Yes, please! About 10 euros each, maybe a little more. I know it seems pricey for some greens, but these are worth it for sure. Go for lunch + go early - it gets super crowded, especially at dinner.

The staff was super friendly and spoke English since we only know the basics in French so that was nice. The food is ready super fast and it's amazing. It's like a big loaded burger without the guilt. I had the The Original and my wife had the Redneck (we liked the name since we're from southeastern US ). For under 10€ per person, you can get a pretty filling meal. You have a choice of a sandwich (i.e. falafels in a pita pocket) or a salad (this will cost just a tiny bit more). My husband got the sandwich and I got the salad - I have to admit I had a little bit of food envy as they were starting to make his sandwich and stuff it, and my salad looked like just a lot of cabbage and carrots. Both were really excellent, the falafels were fresh, tasty, and not dry, and despite my initial first impression, I actually liked the salad more than the sandwich. The salad does come with two little pita breads so you can still feel like you're eating a pita sandwich without all of the carbs and with more vegetables. I would definitely get the salad again, but you can't go wrong with either. Overall, inexpensive, fast, fresh and tasty and a nice way to get something a little healthier (especially if you get the salad) if you're tired of heavier Lyonnaise food. They open pretty late and on Sundays too. I would come back here again if I were in the area.
