Amazing falafel sandwiches! My wife and I are vegetarian/sort of vegan so finding places to eat in France isn't always easy. The staff was super friendly and spoke English since we only know the basics in French so that was nice. The food is ready super fast and it's amazing. It's like a big loaded burger without the guilt. I had the The Original and my wife had the Redneck (we liked the name since we're from southeastern US ). We came into Lyon late and were looking for something quick to eat. This place was perfect since it was fast, had relatively healthy options (salads) and a nice selection of different kinds of falafels, including vegan ones. For under 10€ per person, you can get a pretty filling meal. You have a choice of a sandwich (i.e. falafels in a pita pocket) or a salad (this will cost just a tiny bit more). My husband got the sandwich and I got the salad - I have to admit I had a little bit of food envy as they were starting to make his sandwich and stuff it, and my salad looked like just a lot of cabbage and carrots. Both were really excellent, the falafels were fresh, tasty, and not dry, and despite my initial first impression, I actually liked the salad more than the sandwich. The salad does come with two little pita breads so you can still feel like you're eating a pita sandwich without all of the carbs and with more vegetables. I would definitely get the salad again, but you can't go wrong with either. Overall, inexpensive, fast, fresh and tasty and a nice way to get something a little healthier (especially if you get the salad) if you're tired of heavier Lyonnaise food. They open pretty late and on Sundays too. I would come back here again if I were in the area. read more

Quick, inexpensive and extremely filling! You don't feel like a giant tub of lard upon leaving, even if the take out bags are rather large. The Greek style falafel sandwich was hearty and complimented with olives and feta. The falafel itself was crispy and neither dry nor greasy as mentioned in other reviews. It came in a combo with a drink and delicious potato soup. I ended up being a return visitor while in Lyon. Yaafa is my favorite ever. I don't even miss Rue des Rosiers. Yaafa takes falafel and makes it its own. There are six different falafel concoctions with a wide range of flavors, and I've never tried one I didn't like. My favorites are the Redneck (BBQ cream cheese sauce and corn, yum!) and Le Provençal (I'm obsessed with the sundried tomato spread or whatever the red deliciousness is) and L'Oriental, which is sadly no longer on the menu. Its replacement has a satay sauce and a humorous name which I cannot remember. It's not bad, but I think I'll go back to my standby favorites next time. A falafel sandwich (pita? wrap? what do we call this thing?) will run you 5 euros. It's my go-to cheap delicious meal right next to Terreaux. They also offer service continu (aka they don't shut down at 2pm) so if you want to eat at an hour frowned upon by the French (say, 5pm) Yaafa has your back. En gros: Miam. Oh, Yaafa. I would move to Lyon just to eat your falafel every day. That and Lyon is like, ridiculously beautiful. Anyway, Yaafa has won my heart. As a vegetarian from Louisiana living in France, it's hard to find healthy, flavorful vegetarian food in a country that loves meat, cheese and bread. And, of course, my omnivorous friend accompanied me, and she too was impressed with the melt-in-your-mouth delicious falafel. Thus, if you're a meat-eater, have no fear; the flavor is by no means sacrificed by being vegetarian. The service was warm and friendly. I even witnessed a bit of a dispute regarding a lost ticket, but it was handled professionally and calmly. The staff then continued to dance to the techno trance music and make more delicious sandwiches. There's ample seating, and the bathroom won't give you nightmares. The overall cost is inexpensive, especially when you consider the freshness and quality of the ingredients. There's a lot of choices, and from what I've tasted, you can't go wrong. read more

On the eternel quest for vegetarian fast food in Lyon I tested Yaafa. First impression, the atmopshere is pretty sterile, looks like a chain but I don't think it is. The staff were friendly. It's more a take away than eat sur place thing. I had the "Original" falafel sandwich with frites and a drink. The menu sets you back 8€50, which is OK, I guess, but considering that in some real restaurants you can get a plat du jour for ten euros, the overall meal experience seemed a bit... lacking. The falafel themselves were tasty, the carrots were fresh, the rest of the sandwich (pretty thin hoummos, aubergine something, pita bread) was decent but not spectacular. The frites are actually potato wedges and were a bit greasy but good. My friend asked for extra tahini because the sandwich was a bit dry and was charged 50 cents... Overall decent falafel joint but not the best in Lyon. read more

We wanted to go grab a quick bite before we departed Lyon to Geneva. Checked our local restaurants and made a small walk here. It was very good falafel. The falafels were a good size and had an excellent crunch with it. I got the pita sandwich and it was delicious with the added hummus and vegetables. The falafel wasn't any better than the cheap stuff you'd get at a kabab place. Pretty dry. The sauces weren't too interesting either. The only thing nice about the food here, when compared to any other falafel spot, is you know it's not cooked in the same oil and some nasty fleshy doner meat. My friend and I both thought the falafel was boring. She really enjoyed the soup though. I thought that was pretty average as well. Maybe we just came here on a bad night. read more

Went to yaafa for lunch today and was delighted by possibly the best falafel I've ever had. I also had a dessert which was delicious, and with the falafel/dessert/drink combo - quite cheap. Yaafa is in a great location near the musée des beaux-arts and a bunch of other sights to see, so if you are planning a trip around the area i'd recommend you stop in for lunch. Staff were very friendly and there was an overall cool and relaxed atmosphere. read more

Had the Falafel Sandwich "l'original". Positive: Falafel balls were freshly deep fried. Negative: Way too much water from the tomato-cucumber salad! The paper bag they put it into was completely soggy and fell apart. Typical example of: They produce it, but they would never eat it themselves. So they have barely any idea of how it tastes and how you are supposed to eat it. read more

Wow the falafel with endives and nuts is amazing. In addition to those ingredients, there was hummus, apple chutney, and emmental cheese - an AMAZING combination that you can probably only find here. This place hits the spot if you're looking for a fresh, falafel-style doener. They have multiple vegetarian options and they all look and sound delicious. I've had the Original and the Provencal, both of which were fantastic. They also have pretty good tabouli and a fresh-tasting lentil salad, as well as house-made lemonade. For 8,50€ you can get a sandwich, a side item, and a drink. The guys behind the counter even speak a little English if you're not familiar with French. Where can I begin, it's simply the most delicious falafel I ever had. Sandwiches or plats, the soup or the home made drinks, you really should try this one out, if you want some clean and healthy fast food. Pretty vegetarian too. AMAZING place in Lyon!!!!!! It was my first time in Lyon. I live in NYC and I can say that this is the best falafel I have ever eaten! Not too greasy, perfect amount of filling-crispy outside ratio. I love that you can do the salad combo as well (for those who are not too keen on messy eating). One of my favorite things was their homemade iced tea. Simply DELICIOUS. Really nice to have something healthy but delicious like this in a heavy-food cultured Lyon. The staff is extremely friendly & accommodating!!
