Must visit this place if you're looking for a low-cost food place to visit in Lyon. Is it definitely a tartine place. They have decent wines and good beer and amazing desserts I tried little else other than a side salad. Got to share a table with other people and struck up a conversation it was all good fun. prompt friendly servers - Seems that most people in Lyon are friendly

A lovely place that specialises in tartines. A quick view from outside, this place seems like a tourist trap, with a lot of outdoor seating in idyllic alley, with waiters and waitresses standing outside trying to lure you in, but I dared to enter thanks to yelp review. Upon going in, you see that most of the tables are full, with cheerful locals, so you know that it's not a tourist trap after all. Their menu is limited mostly to tartines, cold and hot tartines, a couple of salad menu and soup of the day. It's not much, but I like places that specialise on something, then you know they'll be good. I got the warm tartine with 3 different cheese (mozarella, blue and goat) while the goat-fanatic boyfriend chose the one with only goat cheese on. We shared a bottle of rose together because it was still "summer-ish" outside. We had a lovely meal at almost no cost at all, definitely a recommended place for a quick lunch!

All 3 of our tartines. Definitely get the foie gras!!

This restaurant was just around the corner from our AirBnB, and seemed to be crowded all day, so we figured it had to be good. We had 3 kinds of tartines: foie gras with caramelized onions (our favorite!), 3 cheese with pear, and the brie with honey and walnuts. All three were fantastic! And it was great to sit outside for people watching. Note: you pay your bill up at the counter. We sat for a long time waiting for the check before realizing this procedure.

Tartines, or open-faced sandwiches, are the thing you'll find at L'Epicerie. It has a tiny food menu (especially compared to its drink menu), with a selection of cold and hot tartines and salads/boards as well. I started with one of the chalkboard specials, the Tartine Alsacienne, which consisted of cooked leeks, mushrooms, and ham topped with cheese. The toppings were savory and creamy, while the brown bread on the bottom was nice and chewy and just slightly crispy from the oven. We also had the Tartine steak a cheval, which was a hamburger patty topped with a perfectly round runny egg over bread spread with caramelized onion, and served with tomato, pickles, salad, and potato chips. Finally, we had the large "Ocean" salad, which came with lettuce and tomato topped with smoked salmon, anchovies, and capers, and this salad came out just way too salty.. While everything on the menu here is relatively affordable (the regular size tartine is plenty--definitely no need to upgrade to the large size for a small party), the flavors were just ok, and the service could have been better as well.

Love this place in Lyon. It is relatively inexpensive and has very good food and atmosphere. Got the vegetable (leek) soup, and it was hitting the spot. The toasts were great too (burger and another beef toast). The plate came plentiful with chips and salad. The meat was cooked beautifully. The place was so cute that decided to order dessert as well- blueberry pie with tea/coffee on the side. Also a hit at my table. I'd return next time I"m in Lyon.

Très chouette endroit et surtout des tartines délicieuses If you are looking for a cosy place with tasty food... Well, there are not much choice you may have in Lyon. Try here and satisfy your gourmandise!

This is a cute restaurant close to Bellecour and Vieux Lyon. They specialize in tartines, orderves, tapas plates. Always busy, fun, tight quarters but cozy. Not for your full on 4 course dinner, but late night drinks and snacks ...absolutment!!

The staff was extremely friendly and helped us choose our dishes and a nice bottle of wine. The place was quiet when it first opened, but after an hour many (not all) of the tables filled up. The location is small, but it didn't feel crowded at all. I had the €31 menu. I started with the escargot, followed by the veal, and finished with a sand tart. The escargot was not a traditional French style and was quite small. The veal was fantastic (cooked just right with a bit of redness), but it was light on vegetables. The sand tart was tasty, but it was accompanied by a bizarre green sauce. Our waiter helped us choose a very nice wine, and he brought out an aerator which enhanced its flavour. We walked out happy. Overall, the meal was enjoyable, but I felt the restaurant was trying a bit too hard to be creative in their meals. Come here if you're looking for something innovative and modern in French cuisine. I would consider coming back if I visit Lyon again.

As such, finding an open restaurant in Lyon on Monday after Easter became a challenge. Our hotel's concierge came through with a reservation for Cinq Mains (5inq Mains on their sign) in Vieux Lyon. Not expecting much, we were impressed by this casual bistro with a hip vibe filled by locals. Although every dish was excellent, the main star was a terrine of rabbit - a day after Easter, an unintended irony. Nevertheless, the terrine was superb and a meal for two unto itself. Yet, we mustered on through sea bass with leek, beef with middle eastern spices, followed by relatively unsweet but well done strawberry ice cream with rhubarb, and chocolate and passion fruit ice cream. All were excellent and provided with friendly bilingual service and great, and reasonably priced wine advice. Definitely would return.

I had some last minute unplanned travel changes that landed me in Lyon for a few days. Being the gastronomic capital of France, I wanted to dine at as many Michelin Star restaurants as I could. As fortune would have it, I only had a day or two in advance, so I was only able to reserve a table at one. That meant I had time to visit a little restaurant my friend told me I absolutely HAD to try. I'm so glad I took his advice. Words can't do justice to how truly incredible it was, but I'll do my best to describe my experience... Atmosphere: 5 The restaurant was very nice but not pretentious. The kind of place you could go to dressed up for a very special occasion or dressed casually for a delicious lunch. I was dressed very casually and felt as welcome as the man dressed to the nines a few tables from me. Service: 5 I don't typically write reviews about service because, frankly, I care much more about the food. However, the service here was so above and beyond excellent, I had to include it. My waiter was not only incredibly professional and knowledgeable, but was genuinely kind. I could really tell how much he cared about me and my experience and how passionate he was about the food he was serving. I had similar positive interactions with the rest of the staff as well. In fact, the chef personally reached out to me on Instagram to thank me for mentioning them in my stories. How cool is that?! Food: 5 I honestly don't know how to even put the food into words. It was indescribably delicious. Every aspect of the meal, from start to finish, was absolutely perfect. No exaggeration, my brain released so much dopamine in response to the meal, I legitimately felt high for at least an hour afterwards. I didn't even know food could do that. It was really that good. In conclusion: I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly. It's been over a year since I've been and I still think about it almost daily. I feel no need to return to Lyon except to eat here again. You can bet I'll go well out of my way to return. If you have an opportunity, GO! To the staff, thank you SO much for everything. Dining with you was by far the best part of my trip to France. I can't wait to see you again someday soon!

My mom and i got the three course tasting menu with a wine pairing - I got the octopus and my mom got the quail (you didn't pick the appetizer) for dessert i got the marscapone heart and my mom got the cheese plate. The octopus was FABULOUS - tender but not mushy and full of flavor. The wine pairing was literal perfection - every wine paired flawlessly with the dish I was impressed. Seriously floored by how well all of the flavors went together. The appetizer was some carrot dish that was phenomenal - I'd have no problem getting my veggies in if they were all prepared like this. The quail was also so delicious tender and flavorful. The marscapone heart was lovely as was the cheese plate. I cannot rave about this restaurant enough. Perfect perfect perfect cuisine in a lovely little restaurant with wonderful, welcoming decor. I would come back to Lyon just to eat here. Fabulous. immaculate. wonderful. One of my all time favorite restaurants. I adore this restaurant.
