This store has a fun assortment of gourmet gadgets and goods, including many difficult-to-find European items. There is a sign on the door that I roughly translated as "no laughing or other merrymaking allowed." Upon entering I was not greeted or acknowledged, but I was watched closely as I perused the offerings. I'd read the reviews indicating the hostile aura of the shop, but I was drawn in by the promise of eclectic offerings. If you're a foodie, I'd recommend checking it out. But you have been warned: you'll not be getting the warm and fuzzies from the "staff." read more

Beware of stuck-up lady. My boyfriend and I walked in and the staff (possibly the owner) started yelling at us "now children; this isn't a playground!". Momentarily we thought she was kidding because we are both adults and had been doing nothing to warrant this reaction but soon realized she was sincerely calling us children and telling us how to behave which left us feeling very disrespected and confused. I wouldn't go back into that negative environment if you paid me. Stay clear of Gourmet's Galley unless you want to ruin your day. read more

Love this place! I hope it can survive the pandemic plus the bad reviews -- those reviews are all about being "watched or the number of signs they have. First- this small community really takes care of each other and is SMALL! I feel sad they depend on tourists who aren't respectful or understanding of that. I appreciate and applaud them for going the extra mile and being careful and cautious. It show me they are a lot and are helping protect people. With that said, I felt a bit watched too but I imagine they must have quite a bit of theft to warrant such worry. All those small treats in tiny hidden spaces - they carry a lot for such a small store. Big chains like Safeway are having trouble - imagine what it does to a tiny shop like this. You can tell they carefully select the items making sure to have a nice variety of imported treats hard to find and local treats supporting other businesses. I don't mind being watched as long as I'm not being targeted and they certainly weren't doing that. For those of you worried or bothered by a shop owner who is watchful, go down the street to Kings. For those of you who don't mind someone watching after you (and available to answer questions) delight in this unique shop and drop a few bucks to keep it here! I got some amazing crackers, supplements, local artist card, UK biscuits, anise candies, almonds, and a spatula I've been needing! Super happy with everything. read more

I've been going in the store for four years. The people who work there are unfriendly, the owner is probably in need of selling the store as she's um, rude and unfriendly. She wouldn't let me purchase dog biscuits for five bucks because my credit card wasn't signed and she refused to look at my driver's license. Attitude galore. I used to own a retail store and I know when it's time to get out of the business when you're that unhappy. It's okay, I was probably the only five dollar sale they made all day and from now on will look at what they sell, copy what I want or snap a pic with my iPhone and just order it elsewhere on the internet. Their source for the dog bones with vanilla is online with free shipping, so why bother with a small store with a bad attitude. read more

I love this shop, it is one of my very favorites on the whole island! I have lived in Friday Harbor for nearly 5 years and I'm grateful that I don't have to go to the mainland to look for specialty items. I take issue with some of the unfavorable reviews obviously left by tourists. The owners are wonderful people, but can you imagine being overrun by tourists for just a few months out of the year? It's hard not to be cranky sometimes when people are rude, demanding or disrespectful. Being polite and courteous goes a long way and is usually treated in kind. This isn't Disneyland! read more

Not the most welcoming of staff. The woman working there (owner, I suspect) was clearly watching me to make sure that I wasn't stealing anything. She crept up on me in one aisle and wasn't expecting me to be standing there. She seemed startled. I think that was the most enjoyable moment of my visit. Wow. Looked like such a cute kitchen shop but the signs everywhere basically yelling at the customers to not touch their phones, not bring in any dogs unless pre approved by other customers, even a sign about boxes that had been taken and it threatened whoever did it that their mother would be so gravely disappointed. Cute kitchen shop. Will have anything you are looking for from cooking, baking, herbs, and specialty kitchen items. Teas, coffees, soaps, lotions...all natural products. They have what the grocery store doesn't. Any foodies and the at home chef will want to check out this shop. read more

A great little find on an island with limited choices. BEE U TI FUL cookware and accessories. Lots of gourmet ingredients (just like the name says), and ingredients that I've never been able to get ahold of....emulsifiers and natural additives that aid in texture and flavoring....Fresh spices, bulk teas and coffees, intriguing foreign candies. Hmmm. Definitely fun to peruse. Also, I've been told staff will order specialty items. Would be nice if cashiers were a little more outgoing...maybe they're shy? Definitely swing by if you're cruising Friday Harbor and spend a little time and change here. read more

The staff always help me at this wonderful little kitchen and unique gifting store. They have the most awesome items and the owners are two wonderful people that are so nice and kind, they go out of their way to get me things and order items that they might even try to carry that I like and they don't yet have. I have a service dog and they have never had a problem with me bringing her in, even though other stores in the area do (whilst legally they can't do anything about it, still makes me feel terrible)...Just a great place overall. I notice others complaining about signs and whatnot, but I have never felt unwelcomed or unwanted in this store. They kindly ask for no food and drinks and whatnot because of the kind of store it is and the floor, I think and they might (don't know for sure) say something about cell phone use, but it is a tiny store and being on the phone in it would be rude anyway and everyone would hear your conversation because it's a quiet store. IDK, I think it's definitely a spot for locals and visitors alike! :) And, no, I didn't get paid to write this. I just like Gourmet Galley. :) Oh - and they have a health section that has amazing stuff, too! :) read more

The woman in charge seems to have no idea what she's doing, and she's kinda bitchy! It's poorly lit, the displays are terrible, and pretty much everything they sell can now be bought somewhere else in town. It used to be a special little shop, but recent visits were so disappointing that we won't bother going there on our next trip to Friday Harbor. Save your time and money! read more
