He was very easy to work with--he shared his thoughts for a menu: Appetizers -Red wine poached pear blue cheese salad -caprese basil salad Entrees -chicken Milanese -red onion jam salmon Sides - french ratatouille - grilled sweet potatoes and cranberries Dessert -assorted of cookies, cupcakes and fruits Everything sounded so yummy but I wanted one of the salads to be vegan. Chef Serge told me that he can swap the caprese salad with green beans cherry tomato and grapefruit salad (I wanted the red wine poached pear blue cheese salad!). I approved that change however, there was some confusion. I later asked if rice comes with the entree and he said that it's extra and asked if I wanted it, I said to keep the menu as is without rice but he thought that I meant to keep his original menu. When he came with the food, it was too late to get the vegan salad. I should have ask for a confirmed menu. Chef Serge and his assistant came on time to setup and offered to stay for the entire lunch but we just want buffet style and members serve themselves. My favorites were the red wine poached pear blue cheese salad and the red onion jam salmon. It was the first time that I've ordered salmon from a caterer where they've kept the skin on. I love the skin on my salmon but caterers don't keep it on. The ratatouille was tasty but some people didn't know quite what to make of it. One of my colleagues said that it has some Caribbean spices--I mentioned it to Chef and he said that he's from Guadeloupe, go figure. The desserts were okay, some mistook it for Entenmann's. He told me that he works with local bakery for desserts. Personally, I don't care too much about the desserts, my main focus is the food. I recommend Chef Serge but I think he's best for private parties. I've referred him to someone who was looking for a caterer for a holiday party. He was very flexible, positive and reliable. They followed our instructions to the letter. We also had some people at our event with allergies and they made sure they were helped out by making sure their food was safe. The event flow was great too. Also when we were out taking pictures in the hot sun, they offered us water and appetizers which was very thoughtful (we didn't ask them to do this). We purchased their package deal which included the cake (Clara's Cakes) and photography (Lidia Miller's Photography). They both far exceed my exception. Our theme was love birds, so Clara designed a cake with shimmery silhouettes of kissing birds around the three tiers and big blossoms of sugar flowers as the topper. It was beautiful! Lidia (the photography) was a godsend! She handled the chaos of the day with a grace and calm. Initially my husband was a irritated because Lidia took so many pictures and had us pose very specifically for each one. At the end, however, we both agree that it was worth it, as we now have a beautiful documentation of our special day. I've had her coconut cake and almond cake from other events that my friends have planned, as well. And they were very delicious. I absolutely regret booking with Simply Fresh and cannot recommend them. If you do book with them or have already, please ensure your planner is keeping close tabs. Here is a rundown of what went wrong: The plates of beef tenderloin served to me and my husband were overcooked and tough, I literally spit mine out. Multiple family members received similar plates or complained that the option was extremely rare in the middle or overcooked and chewy. Every table including the head table was served burnt rolls to the point that most were hard as rocks, couldn't be eaten and were completely charred black. Family members asked for new rolls only to be told there weren't any left. They shouldnt have been placed on the tables at all. The bar also served multiple guests wine with ice in it. Both white and red wine. I am embarrassed by this and I have no idea how this could be justified by any professional bar service. Red wine with ice (and it wasn't sangria)?!? This lowered the quality of my wedding and I am mortified. This was advertised as a dinner with stations, not a buffet. The timeline for meal service took so long I had to flag our planner to ask her to see if she could speed things up. Our last table ate 45 minutes after the head table. While service may have been on time based on Simply Fresh's timeline, for a wedding with 60 guests, it's unacceptable that people were hungry and waiting for food. Their experience was not great and again I'm so embarrassed. Another quality of service issue: Vendor meals were served to staff before members of my family were served. To be very clear I have no issue with staff taking a break to eat dinner or being provided dinner. I have zero issue with staff being seen eating. But it's unacceptable that members of my family who were hungry saw staff being served and eating before they were. Again I am so embarrassed. Our late night snack of hotdogs and French fries was served cold without any condiments. No mustard, no ketchup. Tables also didn't have salt and pepper shakers, or at least family members couldn't find them. Again, all of this seriously lowered the quality of my wedding and I am trying not to freak out, but I am so upset and disappointed.
