Stone Soup catered my September wedding and we have nothing but good things to say. This area is outrageously expensive to host a wedding, but Stone Soup was so willing to work within our budget and was beyond helpful and honest about where we could "trim the fat" and which we should keep to preserve the vibe we were going for. We had around 120 guests and everyone raved about the food. Beyond the food itself, we were blown away with the professionalism and how accommodating both Kim and Chef were. We were tweaking the menu, seemingly, until the last minute and they were not only patient and helpful, but they got it all done too. My mother and I didn't make it easy. As far as day-of went, they were on time, set up the reception beautifully with only the help of my sister, and their staff was perfect! We didn't want anything too invasive. We did a buffet, and the servers came around to tables, cleared plates as everyone finished, and refilled drinks without anyone noticing, feeling rushed, or bothered. When it came close to the break down time and people were still dancing, they quietly went around to the back tables which were no longer occupied. They did EVERYTHING and we were out in time that evening. We received our deposit back from the venue, which we greatly appreciated. Basically, I can't recommend these guys highly enough. Can I give more than 5 stars? Because I need more than 5 stars for Kim and Chef Z. Ok, I'm trying to figure out where to start with this review, because I have so much to say! Professionalism: Kim and Chef are EXTREMELY knowledgeable of all things wedding. I was just amazed at all the things Kim thought of that I didn't. I considered myself pretty savvy, but Kim knew her stuff. She was very efficient with emails and calls and really took a great deal of time in everything she did for us. And it showed. Friendly: Kim and Chef are folks you just want to know. They are funny and helpful and just a delight to be around. They shared with me some tricks of the trade and really helped us to save a ton of money. Everyone keeps telling me how they thought Kim and her staff were so sweet! In fact, as I was coming up the stairs, one of the servers held my bouquet. Now how nice is that?! THE FOOD: OMG!!! Ok, I'll stop typing in caps now. BUT OMG (I lied)! The food was AMAZING! For my wedding, we decided to have a buffet. I opted for BBQ chicken and salmon as the entrees. I held my breath. I'd been to other weddings where the food wasn't very good, or it was just passable. But this food was really really good! The meat was moist and flavorful. The salmon wasn't overcooked and tasted amazing! My guests are still talking about it. Cost effective: Weddings aren't cheap. If you have a limited budget (like MOST people that aren't royalty), you need to call Kim and Chef. They really provide great ways to save money without losing the feel of the event and cheapening it. I just can't say enough good stuff about Kim and Chef. They have a great operation going on. We couldn't say enough great things about Kim and Chef. We absolutely loved them! Not only were they extremely reasonably priced, but the food was scrumptious. After our wedding a ton of our guest commented on how amazing the food was. We ordered the tri olive oil salmon, chicken pepperonata, Mac-n-cheese, wild rice pilaf, veggies, and the Italian cookies. Hiring Stone Soup for my wedding was the best decision I made in the entire wedding planning. They took on so much more than the food/drink to make sure things went smoothly leading up to and on the night of the wedding. Kim offered suggestions on all things that I needed help with such as table arrangements, day of coordination, etc and even sent me a reminder a week before my wedding about things like practicing the bustle on my dress and bringing a change of shoes. The menu/services are fully customizable to fit any budget. Kim offered advice when needed but never pressured me to do anything a certain way or upsell me. Early in the planning stage for our wedding (after we'd booked our venue but before we knew anything else), we went to a vendor fair at Brookside Gardens. Stone Soup were one of only a few caterers there who had clearly thought about what would work in that space and for that event, which impressed us. And, of course, the food they were serving was delicious! During the planning, they were very communicative with us without really trying to pressure us or get us to spend more money than we were comfortable with. The menu offers a great variety of choices and accommodates a lot of dietary needs/restrictions, which was very important to us as hosts (the gluten-free cornbread is fantastic). They were also very familiar with our venue (Brookside Gardens), which meant that Kim was able to give us lots of help in planning out the layout of our reception. On the day of our wedding, the Stone Soup team did a beautiful job of setting up our reception (I was blown away when I walked in) and was incredibly efficient at tearing down. They know what they are doing and it shows. We were lucky enough to have supportive families and friends and feel confident in our choices, but if you don't, Stone Soup has your back. Kim was warm and enthusiastic and supportive in every single communication, always telling us what a great job we were doing. If there were any points where she really strongly felt that something was a bad idea, she'd tell us, and explain why, but there wasn't really any of that wedding-industrial complex "you have to do X or it won't be a good wedding" pressure you can get some places. Kim and Chef were incredible - I could not have had a better experience at my wedding from start to finish with their invaluable help. We first met Kim and Chef at the Brookside Gardens catering vendor showcase - many caterers there told us that we were booking too late (even though our wedding was over six months away) and made us feel like our wedding of 75 guests wasn't worth their time. Kim and Chef immediately struck us as in a different league entirely. They were happy to chat with us and assured us that we weren't booking too late at all! Kim made the planning process simple and easy after we finalized our booking. She thought of everything! On the day of, everything seemed to come together magically. The staff were true professionals - our bartender was INCREDIBLE. We bought the ingredients for a signature cocktail - a blue curacao maragarita - and she mixed it better than we EVER did at home. The food was simply delicious. Kim and Chef kept things on schedule and brought us our own plates so we didn't have to wait in the buffet line. At the end of the night they sent us home with prepackaged leftovers that we've been eating for the last week with great gusto - colby dijon mac n' cheese, cole slaw, pulled chicken sliders, and their amazing cake! We ordered a huge selection of their desserts in addition to our wedding cake, and boy were we happy to take home the leftovers. I've been eating Kona Rum Crunch cake for breakfast for days, and I'm not tired of it yet. I would HIGHLY recommend Stone Soup Catering. I couldn't have asked for a better experience working with such lovely talented people. P.S. If you are looking for poor quality food and equally as bad and unprofessional service, Stone Soup is the place for you. My fiance went to a tasting there and were served LEFTOVER food from a previous event days before....they told us it was leftovers from the weekend and did not see a problem with that. In addition, we were served standing in their kitchen; old sliders, meatballs, and nachos were there items of choice for my wedding....not really what I had in mind. They then gave us about 20 minutes to taste their shitty food standing up and told us that our time was up. It took them 8 weeks to get me a quote and it was outrageous. They tried to keep my deposit when we told them we did not want to work with them. The woman is so rude and awful to work with, she will not deliver what she says and will make up excues and insult you in an email then put a smiley face. So unprofessional. If you go an do a tasting you will see exactly what I mean but do not even waste your time - overpriced, bad food, bad service. Planning a wedding is stressful enough don't make it worse working with fools. read more

Stone Soup Catering worked with us to cater our March 2nd, 2013 wedding. We did not know when we initially signed a contract, but Kim and Chef Z turned out to be incredibly helpful in planning not just the wedding menu, but the rest of the day as well. My wife and I got married at the Lodge at Little Seneca Creek. We stopped in to check out the venue one day and Kim and Chef Z were there setting up for another wedding. They stopped what they were doing to talk with us that day and answer some of our initial questions. We were very impressed that they were both on site, early, helping with the set up; planned to be on site all day; and were very familiar with the venue itself. We later visited their location for a tasting. Based on the delicious food, Kim and Chef Z's excellent customer service, and their familiarity with our venue, we decided to book them for our wedding. It was one of the best decisions we made during wedding planning! Throughout the planning process, Kim was exceptionally helpful. She sent us recommendations for other vendors; for decorating the venue; and for saving money while maintaining an excellent menu. She was always very helpful and responsive over email or in person. The food itself was absolutely delicious. We chose simple, home-style dishes; the final product was comfort food with a classy twist. The service during the wedding was also excellent- the wait staff was attentive and efficient. We got many compliments from our guests, all of whom left happy and well-fed. Having Stone Soup cater our June 2013 wedding (Woodlawn Manor) was one of the best decisions we made throughout the whole process! Stone Soup catered our wedding on October 5th and did a fabulous job. Highly recommend them! At our tasting last fall, we were hooked! The food was completely delicious. We tried a wide range of items that Chef Rob prepared for an event they were catering later that day -- he explained that he prefers to do tastings this way so that clients can sample actual food going out to actual events, rather than an idealized small-batch meal that not be truly representative (although they offer to have you come back any time they're preparing other menu items you might be interested in but didn't get to try at your tasting). We really appreciated that honesty and flexibility. In the run-up to the wedding, Kim practically served as my de facto wedding coordinator. Our wedding was at the Lodge at Little Seneca Creek, which Kim knows like the back of her hand! She promptly and happily fielded all of my questions (believe me, I had a ton!), guided us through the planning process, and accommodated all sorts of requests and adjustments. Their prices are very reasonable and transparent, which we appreciated. On the wedding day, the food was fantastic!! We had passed appetizers and a delicious buffet, which was perfectly coordinated. We got tons of compliments on the food! Chef even prepared an awesome assortment of Italian cookies to accompany our cake. We can't say enough nice things about Stone Soup. They catered our May 2013 wedding at Glenview Mansion in Rockville. My wife and I found Kim and Chef Z to be really easy to work with. We were on a tight budget and they did everything they could to find ways to save us money while still delighting our guests with a fantastic menu. They also gave us lots of helpful tips along the way, but weren't pushy about it. They also made sure to know exactly what we were looking for and stayed true to our overall theme. The day of the wedding, we had intermittent rain, but Kim and Chef were in constant communication with our wedding manager and were flexible and easy to work with the entire time. True professionals! Stone Soup has a big menu, which was great for us because we wanted station-style service with a variety of appetizers. The teriyaki-glazed salmon was the biggest hit, but everything was great. We had countless guests tell us how surprised they were by the quality of the food. The food tasted exactly the way it did during our tasting, so no surprises there. Hi all, Stop obsessing over the reviews like I did and call Stone Soup. They are literally awesome. I am in sales/customer service myself so I am super picky (some people would say difficult!). I had no complaints or concerns at all. They catered my wedding (4/18/15) at Blackrock in Germantown and did an amazing job from the initial contact to the execution. People were raving about he food and still are! Most of my guests (family and friends) have worked in the restaurant business and are from New Jersey-an incredibly difficult group to please. Not one complaint!! We had a Vegan, and another one who needs a pitcher of Diet Coke in front of him and a wedding party of nieces and daughters who are all teenagers and "hate everything". And all of them were thrilled! Not only was the food amazing-Kim and Chef are highly competent and helpful in all areas of planning. We are beyond pleased with our experience with Stone Soup Catering. We hired them for our wedding reception and they made the whole planning process easier. We were nervous as it was our first time planning a wedding and Kim and Chef were knowledgeable, patient, fun to work with, respectful of our wishes, very detail-oriented and the food was delicious. They were able to cater to the dietary needs of our vegetarian and vegan guests as well as a guest with a nut allergy. I would especially recommend their desserts, as Chef has received training as a pastry chef, and their signature "cookies and friends" platter is very colorful, aesthetically pleasing and tasty. We had decided we were going to forgo having a cake because of the expense, but they were able to bake us a reasonably priced 6-inch tequila sunrise cutting cake so we could partake in the cake-cutting tradition. They were also familiar with our wedding venue (Rockwood Manor) and were able to draw up the required diagrams of our event which was a tremendously helpful. They cleaned up afterwards very thoroughly, which we greatly appreciated. Chef and Kim catered our October 13th wedding and not only was the food fabulous, they were a pleasure to work with. After receiving an initial catering quote from a different caterer that was nearly our entire budget, we met Chef and Kim at an open house at the Lodge at Little Seneca Creek (our venue). They offered us samples of their delicious cookies (the orange blossom is my favorite!) and showed us pictures of events they had catered. They frequently cater events at our venue, so they were very familiar with its policies and other vendors. That was a huge help to us and they were able to inform us about a lot of things we never thought of (for example, when we showed them our floor plan, they immediately sent over pictures of a recent event where the sweetheart table was in the same location as ours, so we could get an idea of how we might want to decorate it). They were hugely supportive through the whole process and, like other reviews have said, were almost like wedding planners in addition to caterers. We also appreciated how up front they were about costs and how willing they were to work with our budget and find different options that would work for us. Our food was incredible. Several weeks later, we're still hearing from guests raving about how good everything was. We wanted a kosher-style dairy meal, and they have a huge selection of fish and veggie entrees (plus meat and poultry, of course). That meant we had a lot of questions about the ingredients of different item (like if they made their delicious pumpkin bisque with veggie stock instead of chicken stock), and they were so helpful and accommodating. We also brought in some boxed glatt kosher meals for a handful of guests, and they were really helpful with getting those set up and making sure that the guests who needed them knew where they were. They prepared a huge plate of food for my husband and me to enjoy at our sweetheart table, and everything was so good (definitely recommend the pumpkin bisque and pumpkin trifle for a fall wedding!). Working with Chef Z and Kim on our wedding plans was like working with good friends we just happened to never have met before. They were responsive to our requests and questions, extremely professional. We got to see Chef's kitchen set up when we went for our tasting and he runs a pristine, tight ship! Stone Soup Catering is hands-down, the best in the business. The moment we met Kim and Chef, we had instant connection. They were friendly, informative, and most importantly genuine. They catered my wedding did an amazing job from start to finish. We scheduled our tasting session with them at their kitchen. Their kitchen was clean, well-organized, and full of homemade and fresh ingredients. They arranged quite an array of dishes for us to sample. We were blown away-everything was so good! Our absolute favorites were the orange blossom amaretti cookies, pretzel bread, and pulled honey-bbq chicken. My husband and I would sometimes get stressed out just thinking about everything. But Kim & Chef assured us that they would be able to walk us through the process-and definitely delivered on that promise. All along the way, they understood our budget constraints and worked to help us save money. We had countless questions and even some last minute changes, but Kim and Chef always replied in a timely manner and always had an answer or suggestions for us. To say the least, they were extremely accommodating with us. Selecting our menu for the wedding was probably the most difficult just because there were too many salivating options to choose from! Chef is constantly re-inventing his menu with seemingly tastier and tastier options. During reception, bartender & servers were very professional & attentive. They collaborated with our DJ and photographers to make our day go seamlessly. We never noticed and lag for re-arranging tables to open up the dance floor, wine pouring, or cake-cutting. I would love to be able to give Kim and Chef Z 10 stars and feel that it still would not be enough! Our wedding was just held on Friday evening, 9/19/2014. We met them at an open house while looking at Little Seneca Lodge as the venue for our daughter's wedding. We knew almost immediately that we would use them for her wedding. They were incredibly knowledgeable and we could see that immediately. They were there for us from start to finish. The are incredibly professional and the food was outstanding. We had a different kind of menu because we wanted the wedding the reflect the bride and groom. Chef Z and Kim served a Fajita Buffet. To the fajita bar we added a delicious wagon wheel pasta and a salad. Chicken and shredded beef along with peppers and onions were included. There was rice and beans served along with all the fixings, sour cream, guacamole, etc. We added macaroni and cheese to the menu because the groom loves it and honestly who doesn't. I can't imagine there could be a person in the world that would not LOVE Chef Z's macaroni and cheese. We also had passed appetizers: meatballs, tequila lime shrimp, and chicken bites. I realize that it all sounds like such an odd choice together, but every single guest raved about the food and how delicious everything was. Having this sort of buffet was a great choice because it allowed choices for those who may not eat meat because there were so many other choices, pastas without meet, salad, etc. Kim and Chef Z are an amazing full service caterer. Their job does not stop at preparing the food. I had never hosted a wedding before and there was so much that I did not know. Kim and Chef helped me with absolutely everything and left no question unanswered! They are incredibly responsive and never leave you wondering about anything at all. If I could give them 10 stars, I would. When Dad passed away, under a tight timeframe Kim and Chef bent over backward to develop a terrific array of Kosher food just before Passover. The food was first rate, lox like I've never seen, and the presentation was simply incredible. So much care goes into their work; I can't say enough good things about the experience. First let me say this couple is so awesome. We met them at he Glenview Mansion for a wedding expo. I fell in love with there personality right away and there food was absolutely delicious. I had the lobster mac and cheese and some cake dessert i cant remember the name. We got there number and decided to make an appointment to meet for our wedding. We went to there kitchen and the first thing i noticed was how clean and organized there kitchen was. Second they had some treats for us that were out of this world we could not resist them we hired them right then and there. For our special day they where on time they setup and we had a ball. They even gave us a present which was so sweet, it was two bottles of there special seasoning. We will definitely put that on everything.
