So I drove out from Sacramento they got my Audi cylinder head looking brand new and the block looked better after a wash. This place is a joke . I had them originally machine my engine block and do the balance on it, the idiot in the back sand blasted the front timing cover and didn't clean it out with the sand in the pressure valve for the oil pump and they assembled it like that and it wiped out a lot of high dollar parts and they at first said they would take care of it after I proved what they did and of course they got offended and threw some attitude so it provoked me to contact and file a case with the bar, then they wanted me to bring said engine back to them and I agreed on the condition I watched the disassembly of it personally and we discuss the damage to it because of the sand , the failed to wait for me to come watch and when I did come by he had a couple things for my inspection which the strategy of what he had out was not bad but he put it back together when I was not present and left lots of debris in the lifter guides and didn't use any assembly lube so now I'm having to pull it back out and call the BAR again and sue them, by the way I am an ASE certified mechanic. 11/3/2016, rebuilt 1963 Austin Healy, Sprite, $1,999.95. Immediately after picking up auto, it over heated, oil blew out exhaust, no power when pushed on gas pedal. The auto sat for weeks. 12/13/2017 back to shop, charged $110. parts n labor, not related to engine rebuild. 7/14/18 back to shop, charged $785. parts n labor, not related to engine rebuild. 8/29/2018 back to shop, charged $419. parts n labor, not related to engine rebuild. 4/16/2019 owner Don, said the engine need to be rebuilt, the machine used to gauge engine, malfunctioned. Charged $3,855.22, IMMEDIATELY after picking up auto, over heated, blew oil out, no power. February 3, 2020, owner told me, he had NO mechanic to work on the auto. May 14, 2020, I requested my money be refunded, owner Don, replied no. I took this auto back and forth to the shop, over 15 times, hoping for resolution. I'm a 68 yrs, woman, who trusted this company, was flat out lied to, taken for lots of $$, and was taken advantage of! read more

The owner went out of his way to help turn a set of vented rotors on my BMW. I am from the East Bay Area where nobody would touch them. They were out of the box and ran out .004" on both sides. read more

JR at Gould's has always gone above and beyond to take care of me. This is something I value greatly as being a woman you sometimes don't get the most accurate information and can get taken advantage of. I was personally referred to this shop and I won't go elsewhere and have them work on my classic car and daily driver. These guys are a smaller shop and have a good reputation so you may need to plan accordingly and wait your turn. I want things done right and it's worth waiting for. It's like a restaurant if all the restaurants are busy and a few aren't there's probably a reason. Locals know where to go and my experience has always been awesome. read more

Horrible! I had a bad head gasket, water in the oil, overheating, I drove it still. The engine was wrecked. Gould's said they were going to rebuild the entire engine, replace anything that was worn, mill the heads, change the timing belt... They charged over $3000 for a complete engine rebuild. No more than a week later, the engine started running rough. Gould's refused to do anything about it, insisting that it was my fault for some reason. So I looked at it and found that the timing belt was not new, it was missing the timing guide, and it was running rough because the timing belt had skipped two teeth; the guide's job is to keep that from happening. Gould's still insisted that it wasn't their fault. So, being that it was just the timing belt, I got a new guide, took the belt off, lined up the camshafts and crankshaft the way they should be, put the belt back on, and put the new guide on. ( I didn't have the money for a new belt, or a lawyer. ) Being that they claimed that they did a full rebuild, I thought that was all I had to worry about. Then, a month or so later, the engine overheated and swiftly died. I just gave the car to a friend who is a mechanic. He took it apart and found that all Gould's did was put new head gaskets on it. What my mechanic friend found: The pistons were fried, even the rings were welded to the pistons in certain places. The valves were messed up, some of them didn't even close all the way. The heads were not milled, they were warped almost to the point that they couldn't be milled. read more

I needed major motor repaires on my chevy truck. Due to overheating of the motor. Jr at Goulds gave me a complete rebiuld and Ted (his mecanic) removed and reinstalled my motor and is running just like the day a bought it. All work was timely and very well done. I was told in writing how much it would cost and didn't cost any more. I'm glad I went to them for my repairs. I would recommend them to ask my friend. Gould's Pro-Cylinder head can be described in two words: Unprofessional, and inadequate. I recently took in a Subaru head and asked for it to be PRESSURE tested and resurfaced. I was quoted just over a 100 dollars for this--normal for just one head. Oddly enough, I did not receive a work order to sign, and I regretted this later. First, Gould's machine shop was supposed to call me when my head was done being worked on, but I had to call them about it when I had received no calls by 4:00 the next day when it was supposed to be done by that morning. This set the tone for the rest of my transaction with them. When I went to pick up my head, the charge was only 46 dollars, and I did not receive any paperwork for the work done, only a credit card receipt copy. I asked what happened to the other $60 and the guy made it seem like I was the one who had no idea what I was talking about. He said he had VACUUM tested it and that it passed just fine. The head was also clearly resurfaced. Being the weekend warrior mechanic that I am, I did not know the difference between Pressure testing and Vacuum testing. Pressure testing checks for cracks or pores in the head, while vacuum testing checks to see if the valves are seating well. At the time, I just figured vacuum testing was the same. I had a bad feeling about Gould's so I went to another local shop (Kelley's Automotive and Machine in Shingle Springs) and had them check BOTH of my heads this time. I was astonished when the 'new' shop VACUUM tested my heads in my presence only to show that several of my valves on both heads were not near the amount of pressure that they should be. I couldn't believe that Gould's would just lie about having performed a vacuum test, but because I got no work order, there was nothing I could do to disprove them. While at Kelley's I was also shown a set of heads identical to mine that had been surfaced by the them, and the difference in the quality of the job was night and day. Kelley's surfacing looked like it was OEM factory grade while Gould's looked like it was done with ancient technology in comparison. Long story short, Gould's is very unprofessional and has work that is acceptable at best. Their prices also do not reflect their lack of quality of service. Maybe it's because I am hardly just 19 years old, but I believe that no paying customer deserves to be treated with the awful service I received from Gould's Pro-Cylinder head. I would not recommend Gould's to my worst enemy. -Garrett read more
