Thorough teaching presented in about as interesting ways as it's possible to deliver, but it's easier to pay attention when you're worried your life depends on it. Training in the pool was a full long day, but your always busy learning time next underwater skill you're required to demonstrate competency time last weekend during the open water dive for your certification. Staff made it the material and the skills feel relevant and were supportive and encouraging while truly requiring competency, which was great bc I left feeling humbly confident. read more

Let me tell you a thing about Got Air...If you don't know where to go in the Midwest to feel welcome with opened arms and comfortable from the very first minute you walk in and start talking to John...this is the place you want to go to! I started my certification in S.C. but the ocean didn't cooperate so we had to finish it at home. We did go to another shop in the area before we found Got Air..and what a breath of fresh AIR as a newbie, I was not a comfortable but from the very first time we met John he put all my worries at ease. We got suited up for really great equipment we got to rent out. Then at our dive site all the staff were beyond helpful and attentive to all of the students. A huge huge thank you and shoutout to John for being so chill and easy going and making things so easy for me!!! I always considered getting certified as a scuba diver. I found "Got Air Scuba" online, set an appointment to meet with John Z (owner) and signed up for class after speaking to him. The weekend Open Water class was demanding, but exactly what was needed to learn how to scuba dive. After obtaining my certification, John encouraged me to take the Advanced Open Water course, which I just successfully finished. John and his wife Kim are totally committed to the successful and safe certification of their students. No shortcuts are taken by them or any of their staff. They take whatever time is needed to ensure students learn the skills, and you can absolutely tell they truly care. It was cold, windy and nasty weather for much of our Advanced weekend class, but John and Kim didn't rush through anything and were right there with us the entire time. My fiancé and I came here to get a refresher course on diving before our honeymoon as I had not been diving in 10 years. Thanks to a Groupon deal, I am getting certified with John Zalewski and Got Air Scuba. John is patient, helpful and his passion for diving shows in his every move. This is a serious operation that provides a safe and comfortable environment for learning and practicing. All gear used was brand new and the entire staff was very accomodating. Tips: study well at home prior to the class and the sessions will be a breeze. Use their parking lot and avoid street parking, as Elk Grove Police is a bit less friendly. read more

I was extremely nervous when I first signed up for my Open Water certification and now all I can say is how incredibly grateful I am that I found Got Air!! Jeff was my instructor for the class, with Kai helping out as well. They were both SO incredibly nice and made me feel very comfortable with all the skills underwater (now I take out my regulator often just to make faces at my buddy!). Since class I have formed a bit of an obsession and actually ended up purchasing all of my equipment through Got Air as well as sign up for another class! Kim and Jon helped me pick out some really great equipment that I want to use all the time now. The whole Got Air crew can almost always be found at Haigh diving with classes. Even when I went on my own, they invited me over and really made me feel like part of the family. They are always willing to answer any questions I have and really just want to share their love of scuba with everyone. Signed up for this class without knowing anyone and I was very nervous. I looked at several different classes before getting the Groupon and I am very happy I chose Got Air! I contacted John before signing up and he was very patient and answered all of my questions. Very professional, thorough, and knowledgeable about everything scuba! They take a lot of time to make sure that EVERYONE in the class understands all safety rules. Some thought the class was too long, but the is so much information that is necessary to know to keep you safe and the staff DO NOT RUSH INSTRUCTION! My girlfriend and I recently got PADI certified here. The certification took place over a couple weekends. John, the owner and head instructor, was awesome. He made the classroom, pool, and quarry dive sessions a lot of fun. He's a great teacher and pretty hilarious to boot. His team are all friendly and very professional. If I could give zero stars I would. Went in to redeem my groupon and was told I needed to pay tax on the total. Since I've used 100s of groupons in the past and never had that happen, I (politely) asked the guy to show me where it says I have to pay tax. No big deal right? Wrong. I don't know if he was having a bad day but he absolutely exploded on me, screaming at me saying I "better pay the f*ing tax" and berating me with curse words. He totally blew a gasket over ~$5 and a question. What a joke. The thought of spending 30 hours in a class with this maniac should give you second thoughts. If you ask him to show you how your scuba tank works he might end up drowning you. read more

Terrible customer service! Snagged a groupon for a full cert including open water dives. Finished the classroom/pool fine, but was never told there were only a few possible dates for the open water part or you LOSE YOUR MONEY. Nowhere in the groupon was it stated and never was I told about it by them either. When I finally called to schedule, John, the owner, told me it was going to be another $200 because my available dates had passed. I questioned the fact I was never told that or was it listed in the groupon, but was verbally attacked on the phone and was unwilling to do anything about it because he already had my money. Too bad, as I was going to purchase the rest of our scuba gear from them to support local business as I did with the mask. I will gladly pay the additional cost to get fully certified somewhere else. read more

I took their class this past Thursday and loved it! I didn't know what to expect. I was a little nervous with the idea of breathing under water and couldn't get the hang of it right away. John took me and another student to the side and worked with us individually while the rest of the class continued with the other instructors. It was great to have that attention. It helped me get the hang of it without feeling the pressure of keeping up with the class. All the instructors were very attentive and consistently checking on the students to make sure they were okay. If anyone struggled with anything they would work with them until they felt better about it. It was a great experience and plan to do the licensing program! read more

I used a groupon coupon for my open water certification and wasn't quite sure what to expect. My instructors name was John and he was awesome. He did a wonderful job at making sure he taught everything that we needed to know and really made it fun. He is very into the sport and it seems he just wants to get others into it as well. I ended up buying all my gear from them as well. I looked around online for gear and found they actually had better prices plus I got a free dive computer. I am planning on going back for my advanced open water training through them next year and he told me that if my friends want to get certified that he would give them the same price without having to wait for the groupon deal. bottom line if you are looking for great value with a wonderful passionate instructor look no further. read more
