There are several restaurants and businesses nearby - all appearing to serve locals. In any case, they have a great selection of pastries and breads. Everything looks scrumptious. We tried several pastries over a few visits. They have several raspberry pastries that are fresh and fantastic. A few almond pastries that were also tasty. There's a good mix of cakes and tarts. Their coffees were also good. We sat outside a they have seating for around 15-20 people - and on a nice night, they do get busy. We were excited to try it, as the window boasts that it won the Grand Prize in 2014 for its baguette. It's also open on Mondays, which is refreshing compared to a lot of other local bakeries that are closed that day. It did not disappoint! We got a baguette and a pain au chocolat on our first visit. We had picked up some butter and cheese spread to have with our still warm baguette for breakfast--a much less costly option for anyone trying to save a little money. The baguette was perfection and the pain au chocolat was the best one I'd ever had. It's a real croissant surrounding a few bittersweet morsels of dark chocolate. The second morning, we got another baguette for some artisanal cheeses we'd purchased nearby. We decided to splurge on a couple of pastries, as well, trying the Opéra cake and the chocolate éclair. I don't usually like eclairs and it's because the US does not make them like this! Insanely good. The opera cake was moist and fresh and sinfully rich in chocolate decadence. If you're staying in the 17th, run don't walk to this boulangerie-patisserie parfait.

But if you haven't, this is a strong contender for worthy macarons in Paris and at a convenient location across the street from Ladurée. Located inside L'Occitane in the most gorgeous floor space ever, you will find Pierre Hermé at the center of it all. They have an impressive array of flavors that were much more unique than other patisseries. I definitely asked for a few recommendations as well since I tend to order the same thing (pistachio, raspberry, lemon, etc.) The workers were very kind. They indulged my request to converse in French and corrected me in a respectful and endearing way (I know some people get upset at this idea but I personally prefer it.) I had ordered a dozen macarons but truthfully would've ordered the entire lot if I wasn't alone and especially if I wasn't already taking a ton of sweets back for my flight home. I am a Ladurée purist and what I can say is that Pierre Hermé definitely had the best and most unique flavors compared to the two. The prices are fairly comparable and the coffrets are just as tasteful. Both are strong contenders and worthy of your money. I certainly will be returning and look forward to trying the rest of their selection. (15/50--2025)
