I thought holding the Amazon paperback version of my book was the high-point of my life until I ordered a small run of hardbound books from Gorham Printing. I cannot express what a pure joy it is to look at how gorgeous these books are thanks to the incredible team at Gorham. From start to finish, Gorham made my hardbound book ordering easy. No other book printer/binder I could find offered the amount of options for hardbound books as Gorham. Their online quoting system has so many options that can be toggled to achieve whatever level of fancy you'd like. Uploading my manuscript and foil-stamp cover design was also a breeze. It got a little bumpy getting my cover design placement conveyed, but Jennifer of Gorham was incredibly patient and extremely helpful in taking the time to ensure my books were created exactly the way I wanted. It's a big expenditure and a lengthier production than a paperback printing, so everything had to be perfect. And Gorham even beat their six to seven week production time by two weeks! When I finally opened my box of hardbound books, I was overjoyed at how beautiful the cloth covers turned out (chili pepper linen), each foil stamp perfectly placed where I wanted it (gold embossed foil stamping), and the gold satin bookmark ribbon. The pages are the perfect thickness and color and like velvet to the touch (70# natural Cougar opaque). I know my readers are going to enjoy holding this book as much as they do reading the story! Working with Gorham has been simply the best experience for which I could have hoped. Unfortunately, in our experience, Gorham Printing's standards, product, and customer service fell far below what we've received from other short run printers. More than half of the hardcover print run for a special collectible edition had defects (smeared ink on pages). Some (approximately 20% of the print run) were not so bad that we couldn't sell them at a discount, but the majority of the defective copies (35% of the entire print run) made the books unsellable (despite Gorham's insistence otherwise; they are not our customers). They refused to reprint any of the defective copies, even though one of the books had a cracked and split binding, and the small refund they gave us will not come close to making up for our losses. Contrary to their assertion that smeared pages are "very common" (and their original statement that this had "never occurred before" after we sent them images), we have not encountered this defect with any of the three other printers we've used for the nine previous titles we have published, one of which won a national award for book design. And this is the first printer we've ever done business with who refused to rectify production problems. The worst of the copies will be discarded. We will be able to sell less than half of the print run at full cost, which will be quite a financial loss on our end, given our slim margins. It is a shame, because until they shipped us our order and there turned out to be a serious issue, we had thought they were excellent to work with, and we were looking forward to a long-term relationship with a printer closer to our location. Because we based our decision to use this printer in part by the number of positive reviews that this company has received, we are frankly mystified by our experience with Gorham Printing, by the unprofessional production quality and standards that we came up against, as well as, in the end, the abysmal, dismissive customer service. But that was, in fact, our experience, and if we had known any of this beforehand, we would have used one of our previous printers instead and gladly paid the extra shipping for the extra distance. As a complete novice in book publishing I was lucky to select Gorham Printing. First, their free guide to book publishing was enormously helpful to provide context to the project. However, most of all, the customer service staff were friendly and prompt with answering my e-mails or calls. They made their best effort to help bring my manuscript to print. Once the final manuscript was sent in, I was surprised at how fast I got the copies. The end product is beautiful with easily readable pages, good quality photographs and wonderful design. I cannot recommend Gorham Printing highly enough. read more

Yes, as good as it gets. I don't have time to do reviews but am compelled to make sure the crew at Gorham gets the well-deserved credit. Another above-and-beyond incident today prompted these five stars. I've had Gorham print over a dozen books and there has never been a production problem or an issue with support. Today they called about a design issue on the cover--it doesn't matter what it is--but how many other printers would have said, "we have their sign-off on the proof" and they must want it that way. No, this was the second of two oversights I made on this book, one on the cover and another on the interior I approved. Nobody's perfect, least of all me, but the team at Gorham Printing is as good as it gets. Five stars. read more

I checked numerous printers in my area (Goodyear, AZ) none of them could complete the project as quickly as I needed it and the quotes I got from them were anywhere from 2 times to 9 times more. This is my first "yelp" for good reason. My Mother and I published a small book for our family and friends. As a marketing administrator I had enough skills to present the layout so it didn't need any tweeks on Gorham's part. We held our breath waiting for the 3 to 6 weeks to see the finished product! First, the books arrived in 3 weeks - exactly! Second, they are wonderful. Beautifully bound with quality papers and cover. Excellent reproductions of scanned illustrations as well. This company has it totally together. From our first contact with them, through to the last, they exceed expections on customers service, consistency of product, ease of communication, and a readiness to be of service throughout the process. I had my first book printed by Gorham. The designer was fabulous, the advice was spot on, and in every way, the project turned out exactly as they said it would. This is a high integrity business. Unfortunately, I went on to work with Lightning Source for the next 12 books so that I could go POD down to one book, but the neither the service, product, nor customer care has come anywhere near Gorham's quality. We wanted to write a personal account of our lives as a gift for our children and grandchildren. Gorham was highly recommended by a friend and they did not disappoint us. Annie was so helpful in getting the right paper weight and allowing us to resubmit the cover and interior pages. If you are not going to use their design team, then I would recommend that you carefully review their website. You will find all the instructions that you need to print a quality product. The book was printed and delivered in less than the three weeks promised. We were amazed how clear the pictures were. This was our first experience in publishing a book. We are so grateful to Gorham Publishing. We invested a lot of our time in writing this book and we wanted it to be perfect. After receiving the books, we would not change a single thing. After making the downpayment and providing all the necessary information including how many pages and making the selections, about three weeks after ordering I called to check on it to find out nothing had been done. My first publication with Gorham was an excellent experience. The team worked with me to resize my publication to work on their toner-based system. The final output was acceptable. However, for the second book following the George Floyd events and a pandemic shelter-in-place, the efforts were disastrous. My attempts to get reprints of a book previously printed on a press - "Let's Heal STL - Ferguson Messages in Poetry and Paint," were not as cooperative or well received. The printed sample of the completed work was sent and received by prepress and acknowledged. To speed the printing, I accepted an online press proof. The results were horrible. $1,700 was paid for 100 copies and none were usable. I attempted to get a correction for the misprinted books and was given no redress. My attempts to speak with the owner were rebuffed and thwarted on all fronts. To date (4 July 2020), after repeated attempts I have received no responses from the owners, Kurt or Nora Gorham. This is not a reputable way to do business and I will go to another printer. Unfortunate and sad. Buyer beware. read more
