Fantastic 40s atmosphere!! Be sure to not miss sitting in upstairs! A lovely treasure. Have the Prince of Cambridge scone, the chicken and rice soup or the chocolate cake when available. Especially lovely on a cool autumn or spring day. The only downside is when one of the employees is in, he has medium-length orange hair and leans way over the food while he is preparing it to sit-in or takeaway. The other staff are fantastic, however, if this employee is serving, I have walked out instead of placing my takeaway order. They really should be wearing hairnets with long hair. We needed a quick bite to fuel our morning stroll, and this was the perfect stop. The tempting display of fresh scones piled high in the storefront window drew us in, and before long, we were all happily wandering around, scones in hand! I recommend the raspberry, blueberry and white chocolate scone WITH jam and butter (of course). Large, fluffy and a good amount of berries. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to sit down with a cup of tea, as that would have rounded off our snack nicely. Next time we will try to sit in! read more

The lentil soup is pretty good and I have had a decent baked potato there, but it is not exceptional.since the food is decent and the service friendly then it is a three star place, but their policy on tap water makes me want to never go back, and, ultimately is bumping the review to two star. You have to BUY a jug. They don't give free water and they don't do it by the glass. That to me is absolutely shocking, I know they say it its down to high water rates but come on, what a rip off... read more

Short review as didn't stay long but I think this place is a fairly recent addition to St Andrews. Board outside was advertising gluten free options such as cakes and toasties so that lured me in. You can take away or sit in (upstairs). Take away was busy with people who appeared to be regulars. Upstairs is full of vintage kitchen props and was comfortable. Stayed for about 20 mins to have a pot of breakfast tea and a gluten free carrot and walnut cake. The slice of cake was huge! A massive slab which I couldn't finish but it was tasty. £5.10 for tea and cake so reasonable prices considering the cake portion. Good to see gf options available too. read more

Overpriced, tiny portions and left hungry. Everywhere else, even in the centre of Edinburgh, if you pay £8 for a burger, you get a decent sized burger and chips. Here, you get a tiny, overcooked and rubbery burger (seriously, less than 10mm thick and cooked to the texture of a tyre), with a measly side of dry salad and the stingiest amount of tortilla chips. Also no card payments - what century are we in again? (Ironic announcing that "it's the 1940s" in the cafe and card machines haven't been invented...on a laminated, printed sign - no guys, you just don't want to pay the tiny fees for having a card machine, my partner is a small biz owner and there's no excuse for not offering card payments). read more

Came in for a Gorgeous panini, which was SO DELICIOUS! It is freshly made with grilled chicken (very tender), pesto, cheese, etc. The price was reasonable and it took a while to make. Had it twice and loved it every time. I was so stuffed after the panini that I had no appetite for dinner. read more

Oh my goodness...this place was the best!!! I found it on our last day at at Andrews but if I would if discovered it sooner I would if been there everyday! The scones wee amazing!!!!! Go in the morning when they are fresh. We are upstairs and they were served to us wRm with butter and jam. Our cappuccino was a perfect addition to our morning coffee! We had the raisin scone and the raspberry white chocolate scone! I want another one!!!!! There panini's at lunch sounded amazing too! Tiny tiny little ship but worth finding!!! The scones were indeed "gorgeous"!!! A MUST when in St Andrews!!! read more
